  1. Knight is never coming anywhere close to Indiana. That sounds good nationally, but most people are in the area know it's not going to happen. He has had lawsuits against the university for years. The school can't even get over their hatred of him to honor him in any way, let alone hire him. Plus Bloomington would go into civil war if he was rehired. People would actually take up arms and take to the streets and fight it out (a bit of an exaggeration, but it's basically true). Skiles isn't a serious candidate either. He's a darkhorse, but no favorite. The rumored candidates continue to be Bennett, Miller, or Brownell. Anybody else has to be considered a darkhorse at this point, although Greenspan has always had a very close to the vest coaching search. Besides the point that, at this point, Knight would not be much of a step forward. He's way too old, and I don't think he's much interested in recruiting. You'd be looking for another coach in 2-3 years, probably.
  2. I <3 Hurricaine Katrina I still haven't gotten those evacuees out of my yard! i'd rather have evacuees in my yard than watch a KU vs. Mizzou football game Sorry, Slim. Both of those teams would've corn-holed PSU last year. yeah, last year And for years to come. The only thing deader than PSU football is Joe Paterno. yeah, back to back 9-4 years are horrible. but you're right, 6-6 in 2006 was much better I hope you guys land Pryor so I can watch Paterno suck the Vince Young right out of him.

  6. You say that like we don't suck. We're way worse than you guys are this year (and most years) Aww you guys aren't that bad. I've heard, while the NCAAs are out, you still might play in a post-season tourney. No, not the NIT. The other one. The CBI. Seriously. http://www.kansascity.com/167/story/494200.html That exists? Honestly, I'm just ready for this class of seniors to leave and give MA a chance with some of his own kids. Hopefully they aren't thugs. In all seriousness, it's a shame there have been no good hoops squads at Mizzou while you've been there. It's a great, intense rivalry when both teams are good. That's what made the football game so amazing this year. And that's why I hope (and you should to), that KU continues to be decent at FB. It's just way more fun. I really hope Mizzou's hoops teams get to the point where it's fun to beat them again.
  7. Beasley goes to Kansas State. details, details It's all Kansas so I don't think it really matters. I'll kill you.
  8. Haha, I am a Bulls fan. If we're talking Jayhawk big men, I would have rather gotten Collison. Gooden has a ton of talent, but he'll never really put it together. It'll be fun to see Kirk and Drew play together again, but honestly, I just want the Bulls to not suck.

  10. I know very few KU fans that think this way. But going to a BCS bowl was a hell of a consolation prize. It seems to me, if anyone is jealous, it's you.
  11. I think it's funny that, almost two months after the game, Mizzou fans are still whining about the Orange Bowl.
  12. you must be drunk if you're bringing hoop smack to the table.
  13. LOL my mistake I thought this was a college football thread, not a college basketball thread. The funny thing is for as much crap as kU fans spout about other sports, MU actually dominates the school to the west in sports. If we need to, we could go sport after sport right now: Football: MU #4 Cross Country: Both unranked Golf: Both unranked Swimming and Diving: I have no clue how to tell who's winning Tennis: Both unranked Track: kansas 23rd Basketball kU: #4 Wrestling: MU #13 Baseball: MU preseason: #6 Women's: Basketball: Both teams suck Cross Country: Who knows Golf: MU 33rd Gymnastics MU 13th Soccer: MU 23rd Softball: MU 29th Swimming and Diving:No clue Tennis: Both teams suck Track ku 10th Volleyball: MU NCAA tournament appreance Yep, ku is definitely the superior athletic department  NOT! You've definitely got us beat on the women's sports front. Color me depressed. I might have to pop in my BCS FedEx Orange Bowl DVD to cheer myself up. Did they make a Cotton Bowl DVD, or was that daybreak kickoff too early to roust any cameramen?
  14. Missouri has never won anything significant in major college sports. I'd stick around to discuss it further, but I'm going to go wrap myself in a tapestry of Final Four and National Championship banners while feasting on delicious Florida oranges.
  15. btw, during the pre-game, Michael Beasley predicted--on camera--that he might "go for fifty" in last night's game. He scored 17. And they lost. At Nebraska. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WnF4d5l_ho
  16. jeebus, how did we lose to KSU? They just lost to freaking Nebraska. We better cornhole those clowns when they come to Lawrence.
  17. I'm confused. You said top two freshman, but it's not Arizona vs K State.
  18. I don't think in high school he is close to the player that Tyrell Reed was. I also think he has a lot of projection as a player. He is a great defender, who will play right away because of it. He will have to catch up on offense I think. I remember you saying that before. I though Releford was a scorer. Not true? Do you think Reed is quick enough to be a good defender? I think he had 3 fouls in like 9 minutes the other day. He is a scorer in high school games in Kansas. As for Reed, that is the million dollar question. There is no doubt he can shoot it. I think he is athletic enough to make the adjustments necessary to play. I just wonder how hard Bill recruits over the top of him. That's basically the equivalent of the CPL or Rucker Park, right? Self will show no hesitation to recruit over him if he sees a guy who he thinks is better. We're allegedly in the mix for the 2, 3, 5, & 7 PGs in '09, though I don't know how interested they are.

  20. I didn't speculate much, so I really can't say I was right or wrong. Should tie with Texas for reg season Big XII champs. (No tie-breakers in our conference). Will probably win the conference tourney, though Texas and KSU remain threats there, too. Not sure what to think of aTm. I suppose we could choke there and give away the conference.
  21. What happened there? Any reasons?
  22. The KU pipeline to CA doesn't exist like it did in the Pierce days, but it doesn't need to. Roy wouldn't recruit east of Chicago. He claimed there were "too many good programs to fly over" to get to KU, so he built that pipe. The real reason was he probably didn't want to compete with his beloved Dean/UNC. Self will go anywhere for players. I think with the right coach, OU, OSU, and Mizzou could be long-term quality programs. They were certainly good back in the Stewart/Billy Tubbs years. Sounds like the OU/Baylor game got chippy. It's been physical the whole time, and Blake caught an intentional elbow when he basically sat on a kid during a loose-ball scramble. I like to think that OU and OSU (though not lately, at all) are longterm quality programs. But there's a difference between consistently being a top-25 team and being a national title contender, and it's hard to do that when you basically only recruit the Oklahoma kids that don't bounce to bigger programs (JR Giddens, Shelden Williams, Kelenna Azuibuke, Xavier Henry) and the Texas leftovers. Though, before Sampson bounced, Damion James and Scottie Reynolds were both OU commits. Can you imagine a team with Reynolds, Crocker/Godbold, James, Blake and Longar? That's a top 5 team. That team would've been sick. Maybe I'm just looking too closely at this year where OSU and OU aren't up to their usual snuff. Those teams have to be good for the Big XII to be good, because Nebraska, ISU, and CU are pretty much dead weight. (Though I do have some hopes for Sadler and Bdzelik). I'm very worried about the Sean Sutton thing, though. I think he could run that program into the ground if he's around too long. And, God, do I want Xavier Henry.

  24. I feel like this is a play-in for these two teams. Whoever loses is probably out of the tourney barring something crazy. The winner would still have work to do, but they'd have a shot. If OU blows thiss tonight (a distinct possibility), a good big 12 tourney gets them in. But tonight simplifies things greatly. Kinda off topic, but someone posted this in the KU board I visit: Things look pretty bleak in the Big XII hoops-wise. Massive turnover in coaches, and virtually no marquee names replacing them. Sutton might be gone soon, too, and who knows how long Pat Knight will last. Scott Drew might bail at the first better job. I'd love for the conference to become a legit hoops power, but I don't like what I'm seeing.
