  1. I can't believe they decided not to do a split doubleheader. That's 40k admissions down the toilet.
  2. As I recall, the Trib wanted to anoint Thom as next in line to replace Harry, if only he'd commit to do Cub games exclusively. Sounds good, huh? Well, Thommy boy wanted to keep his gig with FOX doing D-list NFL games, so all that was torched. He made the call, but for some reason he's been bitter ever since.
  3. I have no words fit for the farce that this team has become. The Cubs were a MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM at last check. If they can't get someone on a plane, or come up with a glove, who in the hell can?
  4. What sense does it make to turn off the matrix boards in deference to '70s nostalgia when the game is being played at night - a feat just as impossible for Wrigley 30 years ago as the magnificent rendering of various corporate logos?
  5. The tradition, odd hours, cramped conditions and raucous crowds would make Wrigley terribly fearsome for the opposition if only the Cubs would stop whining about it.
  6. It's amazing how the Cubs manage to negate seemingly every advantage that comes their way. What should be a stumbling block for the visitors is magically transformed into a crutch for bitches who can't cope. No wonder 2008 will make an even 100.
  7. Thanks for posting a link. I guess I'm underwhelmed by these deals. Thanks for all the info you have shared with us. I think its pretty cool that someone in the media still posts on a message board and leaves themselves open to critizism. In your opinion, what would you like to have seen the Cubs do? Thanks Ben I wouldn't have given Walker away for one thing. I would have gone the "prospect" route with Maddux, provided they were the right prospects. I just don't see this trade as making a big, positive impact. Izturis is probably OK in the right spot in the right lineup, but how many times have we seen that with this outfit? Any confirmation on who the prospects could have been? Kemp or Guzman like Carroll reported? Will Carroll appears to be right on. If this is true it appears we have the worst GM in baseball. This trade just keeps getting worse. Just how much is Reinsdorf paying Hendry to tank this team? What a horrible, horrible deal.
  8. Considering that Baker will likely be calling the shots once again, it's nearly certain that 2007 will be every bit the hell that 2006 was, or worse. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
  9. sounds like one? Moreso than usual.
  10. The Braves fans I know think little of this team's chances, and desperately wanted to see a firesale. Oh well.
  11. I never cared for HR, but you're right. How do you know he's right? That's absurd. Odds are pretty heavy that they have more than enough reason to fire him. Companies don't just fire people without discussions going on. I've heard people who have had to deal with the repeated warnings, not to mention the attempted lawsuits that follow. You have absolutely no reason to believe ESPN just blindsided him with this with no support. I'm not necessarily agreeing that HR was wrongly fired — I'm just fed up with the fact that society in general destroys people with little thought for the truth behind the accusations.
  12. I never cared for HR, but you're right.
  13. Scott, again, are you trying to make my wife a widow? Do you want my head to explode? There is ADDED MOTIVATION right now for other teams to make a run at it, and thus, they are more willing to give up a little more in terms of prospects in exchange for help NOW. The Cubs NEED to take advantage of this and use the opportunity to leverage the trades. Scott, it honestly just seems like you are defending whatever Cubs organization does regardless of logic. Then you top that off with steaming promises of .500-style turnarounds one after the other. The scary part for me is, I think you are not trolling, you are being genuine. Somebody call the looney-bin! Cosigned.
  14. Maybe Roy Smalley can get another shot. I couldn't believe it when they canned him for Reynolds, who on his best day was barely tolerable.
  15. If this is the argument I'm remembering, it wasn't quite like that. Harold and Steve were arguing that A-Rod should be traded because he couldn't handle the pressure of NYC. Kruk got really angry at that and called them both out for it, because he thought they were implying A-Rod was a spineless wimp. Naturally, Philips and Reynolds tiptoed around the matter. Kruk actually defended A-Rod pretty well, much to my surprise. Here's an account of the argument in an unrelated article:
  16. You should expect to find this sort of thing here.
  17. 5 1/2 I'm loving it while it lasts. 'Tiger Pride' could evaporate at any minute.
  18. I fail to see how that is relevant. And that's just a load of crap. When you buy a CD, it's not the disc you hold that's being purchased for $12. It's the right to have a copy of that music for personal use. When you listen to music you didn't pay for, you're making use of something that you don't have any right to. So you're stealing. The owner of the music, and/or all those that have a right to share in profits lose money. The fact that you claim that you're stealing music you wouldn't otherwise buy is speculation and irrelevant. Excellent.
  19. A terrible, predictable omission.
