  1. Wait, people were cut off from registering for over a year? phpBB is not some kind of exotic [expletive]. Tim himself has had this board in pieces and back together again time after time, and we are to believe that an issue arose that couldn't be dealt with in a matter of days at most? An issue critical to the site's continuation? What happened to the site? We didn't need 10 pages to answer the question.
  2. I was not "calling Tim out" - I was just stating the facts. Most successful forums of this nature are headed by big personalities who have all kinds of time to blow chasing their teams across the country both literally and figuratively. Tim does not have this luxury, and it's a credit to his character that he is not obsessed with the kind of "celebrity" status one can garner through these endeavors. I only suggest that NSBB's prospects for growth hinge on someone like that emerging, or at least on the site's presence returning to Mesa, the convention and the ballparks. The site succeeded when the latter strategies were employed.
  3. There are tangible reasons why Cubs discussion has waned here, and many have nothing to do with the poor on-field performance. Once upon a time, NSBB had people in Mesa for ST. NSBB was there with Yellon and the rest annoying Cubs management at the convention. There were lots of season ticket holders among the ranks here, along with a bunch of SABR guys and people who used to be involved with MLB. As NSBB has become less visible, its influence within Cubs fandom has waned. The efforts last year with the revamped front door and the radio show were commendable, but both were abandoned shortly after the ASG. Management here may now be content to let the site roll along as-is, but efforts to grow the site have to be sustained for the long haul and you have to get this place promoted amongst the fans. People like Al Yellon, Julie DiCaro and Andy Dolan thrive on notoriety, and their respective sites reflect that (to varying degrees of success.) Tim Stuart, with all due respect, is something of a wallflower in this "business" and it is not shocking to see the site becoming somewhat invisible.
  4. Well it would be found here if the Cubs actually elicited an emotional response anymore. Even people who aren't on the "its cool to not care" bandwagon (such as myself), I can't see them getting too down about the repeated failures of this team. If the Cubs fielded a team that actually generated some interest, we'd see a return to emotional highs and lows for the Cubs (for better and for worse), although likely at a depressed level from 3-4 years ago. Point is, I'm now finding that elsewhere.
  5. I don't know how North Side Baseball devolved into a place where people don't talk much baseball, but it is an interesting example of a web community changing over time. I agree that this is likely hampering the site's growth. Most fans are like me in that we seek catharsis in the wake of disasters, and revelry after great victories. More often than not, neither is to be found here anymore.
  6. I won't complain. He's at the park regularly, taking his lumps with the rest of us. He surely knows the truth but isn't ready to hit the front pages with a Boss-style media war. I will be enraged if he goes on vacation without deposing Hendry.
  7. I regularly check out another Cubs board that I won't name here. There is always stuff to read there. I would come here more often if there were more posts to read. It's a vicious cycle.
  8. Soriano tried to score on the Barney sac fly, but inexplicably stopped halfway down the 3B line. Varitek tried to throw him out at 3B, but threw the ball over Youkilis' head. Sori and Baker scored on the bad throw.
  9. That move went out ... with that uniform.
  10. Dusty's pitchers always come to a bad end.
  11. i don't think marlon byrd is the problem, i think it's the fact that marlon byrd is hitting third. if we had a high obp, high power guy - say, at 1B or corner OF - byrd would be fine for what he gives you in CF. The least he could have done is take a pitch or two to let Coleman catch his breath.
  12. Why the hell are we pitching to this one?
  13. Davis is right. The undesirable games had been selling on simple fan panic that isn't there this year. It isn't hard to understand why the panic dissolved. This is being read as an end to the goodwill generated by 2003. I think it's more a dissolution of the excitement from 2008, which is a strong indictment of Piniella, Hendry and now Ricketts on the backside with the family's insane price hikes. To be fair, economics has something to do with it too. People who thought the Cubs always sold out April and May must be pretty young.
  14. Meh. I am numb to any pitching tragedies.
  15. I quit once it devolved into a Bears show. Would love to see it return in its original format.
