  1. That is exactly what Northwestern's coach was doing. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/ncf/news/story?id=5816818
  2. It's not like the wall is out in the middle of the field, or would be popping up randomly in the players' way.
  3. I really can't believe there won't be a resolution to this. 1) People paid good money to sit on the first base side and in the RF bleachers. Someone in the Big Ten, with Northwestern or Illinois should be raising hell on their behalf. 2) Precedent was set with the Emerald Bowl game in San Francisco. If there was indeed some kind of exemption granted, then why on earth don't they push one through for Wrigley? 3) So a baseball player can run full-speed into the bricks, but the armored football players are afraid of a padded wall? A padded wall that could easily be avoided by not throwing in its vicinity?
  4. People will blame the Cubs, but this is all on the schools and the conference. I'm sure any future games (revenue) are finished pending changes to the grandstand that could be undertaken in the renovation.
  5. This is an excellent counterpoint to the madness in today's Tribune. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/25909428
  6. I agree that Ricketts erred - it should be stated that without the government's cooperation, the park will be dark for perhaps two seasons to get the renovation work done. Put the focus on the neighborhood businesses, not the wealthy family.
  7. I think you should check out a suburban facility. I was in Arlington for the Series, and even for a game of magnitude, the area around the park was abysmal. Nothing but chain hotels and row after row of parked cars. Stifling politics aside, Lakeview is what the 29 other owners want. Walking away would be the ultimate "Cub" move.
  8. http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/theskyline/2010/11/as-they-push-for-state-aid-the-cubs-promise-to-upgrade-wrigley-.html I really can't complain with any of this.
  9. From the Tom: http://view.ed4.net/v/S92JV6/ORV7DV/U1E117T/I0F0/MAILACTION=1&FORMAT=H
  10. ... and Pat Gillick. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/25739818
  11. How relevant is anything in sports? I do care about the ratings, even though it's not truly relevant to my life. I want my sport to do well like I want my team to do well.
  12. Yeah, most years the title gear is a generic/cut-and-paste affair. Nice touch.
  13. MLB teams don't support direct deposit? That's crazy. Actually, they do. Remember when Tribune mixed up the salaries of newspaper carrier Dave Veres and [expletive] relief pitcher Dave Veres via direct deposit?
  14. I would love this just to hear FOX and MLB cry. Then you should have been pulling for Reds/Rays.
  15. IMO, the afternoon starts lend a better "playoff feel" than the night starts, because of the shadows that are unmistakably October. MLB isn't worried about ratings so much as they're worried about up-front payouts from the networks. If they cared, they wouldn't hide playoff games on cable outlets like ABC Family and TBS. They wouldn't pad postseason commercial breaks like lunatics. They wouldn't leave the bulk of baseball marketing up to the individual ballclubs.
  16. The implication that Sandberg was wronged somehow is ludicrous. The Cubs gave the man four years to make a case for himself - and he failed.
  17. Did someone say BOOOOOOOOOM?
  18. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3096923&type=story The umpires screwed up, Washington gave up too easily and right now it's the difference in this game.
  19. "Bart-man" moment. I love it.
  20. That was on a judgement call, can't review it. A similar play featuring a much less egregious case of fan interference in the OF was reviewed in Reds-Phillies Game 3.
  21. No one has responded... Something tells me only Fred can answer this question. The answers you seek are within this thread.
  22. What the [expletive] is replay worth if you won't use it? Awful.
  23. She sings?
