  1. The Tribune comment section is the gutter of Cub fandom.
  2. Kenney brought the priest in, a move he regrets. He put up the Toyota sign, a move I regret. I have read that he favors PSLs, and hates kittens. So - what else is there?
  3. There is a deep, irrational disdain for "suits" among "baseball men" and the people who cover the game.
  4. WGN 720. The current TV deals expire in 2019, but could theoretically be bought out.
  5. If anything, Z is a bigger draw now. People will show up/tune in just to see what happens next.
  6. Probably a lot of them if they have something they want to speak to the fans about. I'd rather them do this then keep us fans in the dark. I agree. This is the anti-safari.
  7. He said they were going to start with some upgrades to Wrigley, and they did. He said they were going to spend money to acquire prospects and they have. He said he was sticking with Hendry and he has for quite a while. What have you heard that he hasn't followed up on? I won't bail out on the team and go to Africa in the middle of baseball season. /whichever poster put up a fuss about that That was me. I am glad he remained stateside this year.
  8. Jeff Loria has made ridiculous moves in the past over personal [expletive]. I would not be surprised at all to see Morrison dealt this winter.
  9. That's my angle - early on, Wrigley and Mesa seemed to be the only parts of the franchise he talked about.
  10. Well, an end to the ambiguous nature of the Wrigley plans would put an end to the ambiguous nature of the club's budget in coming years.
  11. Upon further thought, this is all wrong. The organization has had great success in shaping perception and playing public opinion in its favor against its selected scapegoats over the years. My point is that perhaps now they will use these powers for the benefit of the club.
  12. Sosa has reached out to Z. Class act.
  13. Todd Hollandsworth. One great night, one great at-bat. Aramis has many, many more.
  14. Just trying to be fair-minded about this. The organization has been horrendous when it comes to shaping perception and playing public opinion in its favor. I am willing to believe that a lesson or two have been learned.
  15. The front office may actually be playing this right. After John McDonough's statements at the end of the 2006 season, everyone knew the Cubs HAD to pour buckets of money into a name free agent or two. Now, everyone assumes they will spend big again. Leaks like this (as well as the early season Wrigley discussions) imply that ownership is getting thrifty, thereby lowering expectations and strengthening Hendry's hand at the table this winter.
  16. Well, they did suck, they did play like an AAA team. Rumors from unnamed sources are one thing, a string of statements from the Cubs GM is something else entirely. The organization's interests were not served by Jim Hendry calling Z a bad teammate, nor by him accepting blame for ruining Bobby Cox Night, an assertion made by no one until Hendry mentioned it. There was no reason for the organization to deny that Z had returned his stuff to Turner Field. Let it die! Forget the trade possibilities - it's just bad form. Hendry, Demp and everyone else who commented unnecessarily kept the quote machine running all weekend. Seems to me that some people are getting their revenge because Z spoke for the fans and called them out for their piss-poor performance.
  17. Yes, nothing shocking about Demp and Jimbo crucifying a "bad teammate" by being terrible teammates themselves, jumping in front of the reporters to blast one of the most passionate Cubs in recent memory. Soriano did what was right. Wells refused to comment. They are good teammates.
  18. No, but Hendry typically talks himself into a corner by enraging the meatheads to the point that no solution is acceptable other than the banishment of said player. GMs will lowball him because they know he HAS to make a move. Had all parties just shut up and kept the clubhouse business in the clubhouse, no one would be wise to any of this today.
  19. Typical Hendry. There was no reason at all to go to the papers and whine. The man abhors leverage. I await the leaked video ...
  20. Carlos Zambrano is the kind of talent that you throw the rules to hell for. It's just Z being Z. He will be back, and he will dominate the league once again. Meanwhile, Quade will be hoping to catch on as bench coach somewhere.
  21. I love all the references to "volatile Cub" and "the mercurial Carlos Zambrano" in the papers. Z is awesome.
  22. Meh. He'll be back.
