  1. I've never seen it before, it is beyond funny. Satire at it's best My favorite from "Fly like an Oriole":
  2. What state were you educated in? spelling is not my strong suit. It is damned embarassing. And yes I blame my teachers.
  3. Hendry and MacPhail have structured this team around the starting pitchers. If one wants to beileve Miles and others they are willing to move Walker because the pitchers groused about his defense. If these two facts are true, then they will do whatever it takes to make Prior and Zambrono both happy and rich(er). Prior has to understand that baseball is a business and that he is a valuable comidity. If not, then I question the education system in Southern California, no offense Raisen.
  4. in my opinion, the outfield's in trouble even if murton, pierre, and jones stay healthy all year. it has the potential to be one of the worst outfields in baseball. if they got someone like floyd, you'd have to make murton the 4th OF. you could start him against all lefties, either for floyd or jones. I agree 100%. That's the thing, the outfiled is likely an upgrade but a very slight upgrade.
  5. If you know the door shut, then the door is shut and you move on. I don't see the problem. I guess fans would have been happier if he made a public display of 'Giles desire' just to please them, but Hendry is too much of a straight shooter for that kind of stuff. Hendry was quote was, "I'm not getting into a bidding war with NY and St. Louis." If he is a straight shooter he would have said. I spoke to Brian and he not interested." Giles never publically stated he wanted to stay in SD, to my knowledge. Perhaps BBB can enlighten us all.
  6. Will there ever be a day when people stop pretending like Giles was available to us? No. Giles was available to every team in baseball. Giles is a player a team with the holes the Cubs have should overpay for. The point is moot, but if the Cubs offered 4/40 I think it might have piqued Giles interest. Also thinking creatively, if the Cubs offered any combination of Cedeno, Pie, Nolasco, Pinto and Dope for Marcus as an opener to Atlanta that might have been more of an enticement for the Braves to make a deal. That way they could have lost the much overrated Furcal and kept Marte. Or they could have used some of Giles money to up the ante to Furcal. I could live with Perez at SS if the Giles brothers were in the line up.
  7. Money cures a lot of hurt.
  8. Jones has a career OPS of 787 Patterson has a career OPS of 707.
  9. Do you really believe that Jones is going to digress that badly? No I believe Patterson isn't nearly as bad as some believe.
  10. Five cyber dollars says Patterson has a better OPS than Jones in 2006. Any want to take that bet?
  11. It's okay to look at your own organization to see where it needs improvements and examine what mistakes it has made in the past. Give it a try sometime, Jim. I know that part really got me. I was going to post something about scapegoating but I didn't want to get into another Patterson is stupid debate. The only adjustments Hendry seems to make are pretty superficial. Going from whatever the heck his philosophy was last year to catching the ball this year doesn't do a whole lot. The only coach that has been let go in the past few years was Wendell Kim and there was a huge push by everyone to get him out. He took away Sarge's title as batting instructor, but in name only. It's about time they start looking at the basics of their organization, from international scouting and minor league promotions to major league instruction and offensive philosophy (and change it to one that doesn't focus on rewarding old guys for being able to cash paychecks). What do you mean by that? I cannont speak for Jon but I think he may be talking about Perez.
  12. Done and done. My parents happen to be in Vegas this week. I just put a Benny on the Brewers.
  13. Sutter should check the back of his baseball card.
  14. He will get in but if I'm a voter I'd never vote him in, never.
  15. To me the bolded part is where the Cubs have to invest more in. I don't know if it is dollars or people or both.

  17. If I had my choice it would be Larry Deriker.
  18. No by defienition he set the market. If someone else signed them then that someone else would have set the market. The "market value" is what the player got, not what the palyer is worth. Hendry set the market by being the first to sign theses two mediocre middle releivers who were coming off of career years to bloated contracts. I am pretty sure there was a quote by either one of those two to the effect of, "after I heard the offer I didn't need to talk to other teams". I think the quote was from Howry. That leads me to believe that Hendry did not just out bid every other suiter he out bid every other suiter by a considerable margin. ADD:I think Hendry needed to do sometihing to upgrade the pen so I don't think the signings in themself are bad things, but the money and years given to these two are a huge risk. It is not out of the realm of imagination to say that those two positions couldn't have been filled by farm hands, but that might have been a bigger risk then the signings. To me the performance of the bullpen from year to year is among the hardest things to forcast in baseball.
  19. Giles would have been ideal. Perhaps that wasn't feasible, but the Cubs apparent disinterest was disappointing. The overpay for Neifi was unfortunate. I would have looked for some cheaper bullpen options, but I'm optimistic about Howry and Eyre. Giles was never an option. That one isn't on Hendry. And the market for middle relievers was high this year, and Hendry knew it. He paid the market price for 2 of the best. They were good acquisitions at this point. Neifi is overpaid. Giles was never an option because Hendry never targeted him or because you say so? Hendry was the first to sign middle relievers to bloated contracts, he set the market. Saying Eyre and Howry are two of the best middle releivers is like saying the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Malibu are two of the best small size passenger cars made in America. It might be true but that doesn't make them good. Middle relievers are middle releivers for a reason.
  20. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/2006/01/10/wS72X42T.jpg Why did I take that bet with Jockerty?
  21. I cannot express in words how much the though of Dusty Baker's contract extension pains me. I am not pleased with Hendry's personnel moves the past two off-seasons, but what Baker has done with the talent given to him should have warrented a firing at the end of last season. Talk of an extension seems ridiculous to me.
  22. My only hope is Dusty does not try and sandwich Jones between them whatever order they bat. That would be bad.
  23. Given Pie's injury and his terrible Winter I hope the Cubs are not banking on him anytime soon. I don't think they are though, given that Hendry handed out a mulit-year contract to Jones and has talked as if he'd like Slappy to stick around for a while.
  24. It's not hard for me to argue he should be a Cub. He had his best years with the Cubs and played more seasons for the Cubs. The same argument goes for Maddux only in the opposite direction. He played more seasons for the Cubs but had his best seasons with the Braves, he should go in as a Brave. If Sutter goes in as a Cardinal it would be a travishamokery. :x
  25. Or maybe as an adult he knows what is best for himself. The coaching didn't seem to help last summer so why would it over the winter? I can see him thinking he needed to get away from baseball and clear his mind. I agree. If it were me I'd think two things. 1. I am done with this club 2. I need to find someone to help me that I can trust I am sick of reading the posts saying Corey is hard headed, dumb, or doesn't care. Think about it. If you were playing and getting paid for a living would you care? After Corey got hurt he spent the whole off-season in Arizona. After 2004 he reported early so he could get in extra work. To me that does not sound like a guy who does not care.
