  2. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that everyone of thes guys doesn't go to arbitration. The numbers are very close. Z 1.2 mill Pierre 1.5 mill Prior 700 k Hairston 650 k Ohman 225 k
  3. Yes, he keeps robbing from those poor owners. I am surprised the guy is not in prision for all the money he has swindled from those great men.
  4. How about the Iowa Corn Jerkers? The Iowa Flat Landers? The Iowa Nibblets? (individual corn pieces) The Iowa Methanol Producers?
  5. Whenever Modzilla decides it's time to start a game thread, we'll let Modzilla start the game thread. :) Did you want to sign up, CubinNY? No thanks.
  6. Any details? Pure hopefull speculation: Big Z wanted to go for long term security and Boras wanted to go for short run profit. Pure pessimistic speculation: Big Z thinks he is worth more than Boras was going to offer in arbitration.
  7. Will Modzilla be starting any game threads? I like it when he/she/it/they starts, but it scares me a little too.
  8. 29 days from today!
  9. anyone? I hate this time of the year.
  10. McGuire and Bonds should not get in the HOF, although a case could be made that Bonds could get in on his Pittsburgh career alone. If they do get in, I hope the opening line on their plaque reads, "played during the steriod era".
  11. Gambling on baseball was against the rules of baseball. Taking steroids was not. No just illegal.
  12. Slappy Walk Lee Aramis Barrett Murton Jones Cedeno Pitcher
  13. I'd imagine he does. Of course, there's a difference between giving in a signing Neifi to a one-year deal and taking the initiative to sign him to a two-year deal. Maybe this will clear up what Dusty said: That seems much more reasonable and sane. Maybe Dusty has a case of "Contract-Year-itis" and is going to be a sane, effective manager. It's funny. Maybe I am too jaded with regard to Dusty but I can see things going something like this Dusty thinking to himself: Devil Dusty says, "Man Woody sure did light things up when he pitched in relief. Shoot, the dude looked unhittable. Man he would make a helluva reliever." Angel Dusty says, "But he is also a starting pitcher who is payed a lot of money to start and is pretty good at it." Devil Dusty, "Shoot, I got plenty of them starters and my middle relief pitchers couldn't get the job done. I might just throw him in the bullpen to start and hope the other five guys do well. Then what am I gonna do? Put one of them in the bullpen? That might ruin their psyches. Know what I mean?" Angel Dusty, "Well, I guess you got a point there man. Let's go fishin."
  14. Someone please explain the purpose of Wood in the pen when he gets healthy. Love the Cubs, hate what they are doing.
  15. The Brewers will win this division or win the Wild Card (you heard it here first). The Cards and Astros will show their age. The Cubs will start off poorly and then rebound and be around .500. Dusty will be gone after the ASB. Pittsburgh and Cincinatti don't have enough to contend Yost is a very good manager and they have a good mix of veterans (Lee and Jeokins, Koskie, Sheets) and young studs. They have 3 very good starting pitchers. The bullpen will tell the tale. If Kolb can get lucky with his ground ball outs they will be in business. My prediction as it stands today: Brewers 93 wins Cardinals 90 wins Astros 88 wins Cubs 80 wins Pittsburgh 77 wins Cincinnatti 72 wins
  16. McGwire's statement was basically an advisory from HIS attorney, also. Why is what Sosa did any better or worse than what McGwire did? Why wasn't Bonds required to be there? Why wasn't Clemens required to be there? The players were hand-picked for nothing more than propoganda purposes, and that's not fair. I'm glad McGwire chose not to be a freak in their little circus. People don't like it, but sometimes you have to go against the grain. Frankly, I don't think McGwire gives a rat's nose what people think, including Congress. And if the HOF voters are going to judge him on that mockery of a hearing, then I'll bet he doesn't care what THEY think, either. This thread is not about what Sosa or anyone else did or did not say. When Sammy and the othes come up for induction we can have this conversation.
  17. Done and done. My parents happen to be in Vegas this week. I just put a Benny on the Brewers. Bump (kind of), My dad went to the the sports book at the Riveria and the Brew crew were 60-1. I had him put $50 dollars down. Not 80-1 but a nice return on investment anyway
  18. I've never seen it before, it is beyond funny. Satire at it's best My favorite from "Fly like an Oriole":
  19. What state were you educated in? spelling is not my strong suit. It is damned embarassing. And yes I blame my teachers.
  20. Hendry and MacPhail have structured this team around the starting pitchers. If one wants to beileve Miles and others they are willing to move Walker because the pitchers groused about his defense. If these two facts are true, then they will do whatever it takes to make Prior and Zambrono both happy and rich(er). Prior has to understand that baseball is a business and that he is a valuable comidity. If not, then I question the education system in Southern California, no offense Raisen.
  21. in my opinion, the outfield's in trouble even if murton, pierre, and jones stay healthy all year. it has the potential to be one of the worst outfields in baseball. if they got someone like floyd, you'd have to make murton the 4th OF. you could start him against all lefties, either for floyd or jones. I agree 100%. That's the thing, the outfiled is likely an upgrade but a very slight upgrade.
  22. If you know the door shut, then the door is shut and you move on. I don't see the problem. I guess fans would have been happier if he made a public display of 'Giles desire' just to please them, but Hendry is too much of a straight shooter for that kind of stuff. Hendry was quote was, "I'm not getting into a bidding war with NY and St. Louis." If he is a straight shooter he would have said. I spoke to Brian and he not interested." Giles never publically stated he wanted to stay in SD, to my knowledge. Perhaps BBB can enlighten us all.
  23. Will there ever be a day when people stop pretending like Giles was available to us? No. Giles was available to every team in baseball. Giles is a player a team with the holes the Cubs have should overpay for. The point is moot, but if the Cubs offered 4/40 I think it might have piqued Giles interest. Also thinking creatively, if the Cubs offered any combination of Cedeno, Pie, Nolasco, Pinto and Dope for Marcus as an opener to Atlanta that might have been more of an enticement for the Braves to make a deal. That way they could have lost the much overrated Furcal and kept Marte. Or they could have used some of Giles money to up the ante to Furcal. I could live with Perez at SS if the Giles brothers were in the line up.
  24. Money cures a lot of hurt.
