  1. Almost as bad as the Juan Pierre deal. Bad, real, real bad.
  2. I'm well aware that Jones had a good year last year, at least against RHP. That's why we should have traded him in the off-season. I'm more than happy to put Murton's .350 OBP in the 2 hole against RHP or LHP. Please stop with the Murton man crushes! I like the guy too but goodness, he'll get his chance. It's not like has been killing the ball or getting on base any other way. It's game 8. No he won't get his chances. He's on the wrong end of 70/30 platoon until Lou starts to play him.
  3. Jealousy is a terrible emotion. I bet if you polled the people as they walked into the gate welll over 90% would know who's playing today.
  4. Then I formally request that someone set an exact number of games that have to be played before such concerns can be voiced. That's not the point. There are already threads on this message board dedicated to this topic...it doesn't need infiltrate every single game discussion as well. who are you? The arbiter of what should be in a game therad? Just ignore the comments and don't respond to them. That is the best way to make them go away. Personally, I bitched about it a lot during the winter and knew it was comming so it is no shock to me.
  5. It'll be cold...wind blowing in...he should be fine...he'll save the truly bad games for August...when we're hopefully in contention and it can really hurt us. It's funny, most of my Yankee fan friends are saying the samething about A-Rod. They all still hate him. I have no idea why.
  6. I don't know about baseball being a public transportation sport, I think that statement is nonsense. In addition, you can't park at a big lot around Yankee stadium either (the lot around the stadium is pretty damn samall). And both Shea and Phiadelphia are pretty easy to get in and out of as major highways are located by the ballpark. That said, the only reason to move a ballpark from the city to the country is becuase of diminishing attandence. The Cubs don't have that problem. I think they could *try* and play their home games at the cell for a year and build a new Wrigley right on the same spot, if they wanted to get a nice new park.
  7. Barett has got to set up quicker. He falls into this habit from time to time. Lilly was in his windup before Barett set up behind the plate. The result, a hit batsman.
  8. He and Dunn would have cured it a long time ago but they can't get their hands on any viable stem cells. In all seriousness, we shouldn't be too upset, it's been telegraphed all winter.
  9. I thought they were going to make Marmol into a bullpen guy/closer? Guess not
  10. I'll do you one better. Derek Jeter's regular season career batting: .317/.388/.463/.851 Derek Jeter's postseason career batting:.314/.384/.479/.863 Those numbers would have been better, but he shared some of his clutch with ARod cuz he was tired of being so much more awesome than everyone who ever lived. That's pretty funny. I'm a Jeter fan, we were in Kalamazoo at the same time. I taught his sister Sharlee when he was a senior in HS, so I'm a little biased. Anyway, I think he's pretty damn good. I also think some people in the media make too much out of "Captian intangible" when what he's done is pretty tangible. But I cannot understand why he takes so much abuse on this site. He's a lock for the HOF based on his numbers alone. I don't think it's abuse, it's more mockery of ESPN's love for him. We all know how terrific Jeter is, but they make him out to seem like more than a mere mortal because he dove into the seats and made a nifty backhand toss to nail the sucky Giambi at the plate (yes, I know there's more). His postseason numbers aren't much different than his regular season stats, yet ESPN's coverage always makes it seem like he's always batting 900. I agree.
  11. I see the Astros have gotten off their characteristic hot start. Daryl Ward

  13. What will the person win who comes the closest? I am ridicilously pathetic when it comes to these things but here goes 6 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 Ks, 1 HR (given up)
  14. Good, not a serious injury for Colvin. Reason #67 why I hate the headfirst slide.
  15. I think it is too early to worry about the number of K's. From what I have seen, the K's will come as he matures as a pitcher. Given his track record in college, the lack of ks is something to worry about. However, giving up only one run is great all of the time. Maybe he's going to become more of a sinker baller than a strike out pitcher. His track record in college also indicated a guy who topped out in the upper 80s. He already has sink on his fastball and should get quite a lot of groundballs - he's still learning his slider and changeup and as those progress, he should start racking up the Ks. As craig would say, just look at Zambrano at A-ball. That's true but Zambrano wasn't 22 in low A. Don't get me wrong, I have high hopes for him, but at the same time I'm trying to be realistic too.
  16. oh dear. if you think that 2 years is long enough to judge any GM, unless that GM happens to be named bowden, who is a prime example of a loser GM that probably has compromising pictures of someone important--then i feel bad for you. rather, i feel bad for the baseball that is unfortunate enough to be evaluated by you. "chemistry", "makeup", aren't these words that people use to sound like they know what they're talking about when they don't? simply allowing for "chemistry" to be an issue when building a baseball team is stupid, as chemistry is generally only important in sports where there are meaningful, intricate interactions going on all of the time, not baseball. and loduca is and was one of the most overrated players in the game, both on the field and in the clubhouse. the moves depo made were good moves, both then and now. *sigh* Clearly, you get some sort of hard-on by trying to start fights over the internet. If you're just flame, then carry on and I'll ignore you in the future. If not, I suggest you immediately seek some type of social interaction in a real public setting, and a reading comprehension book. Judging by the way you responded to my past post, you either a)don't understand what I'm saying or b)Didn't really read it, saw the word "chemistry" and proceeded to neatly categorize my opinions and respond by making broad generalizations. Judging by your other posts, I'm thinking the latter. Regardless, it's really not worth continuing this "discussion" as it's just a waste of my time. After reading how you interpreted the points I made in my previous posts, you've completely missed my point about DePodesta, and I don't think you'll ever understand (or care to, for that matter). *waits for Sulleymon to skim this post and respond with insults such as "smallballer," "Joe Morgan" "idiot" etc.* I think he's demonstrated pretty darn good reading comprehension. I think the Marlins were worse after getting LoDuca than before they got him. So much for the "leader" making a difference.
  17. I have to say I've not been on the bandwgn, but as I watched the game today my appreciation for him grew. He did a real good job calling pitches and keeping Carlos grounded. He was also outstanding in the 9th with dempster on location. He's just a real good defensive catcher.

  19. Unless your name is Burt Reynolds. Or an actual porn star Or officer Jim Dangle
  20. But it's not selfish of you to want to keep it in the city? Pot meet kettle They are the CHICAGO Cubs, not the Schaumburg Cubs, Evanston Cubs, etc. The stadium should be in the city. I know other towns do things different, but there's no need to move them out of the city. No need? How about the freedom to do with the ballpark what the owner sees fit to generate additional revenue? How about the need to be in a neighborhood that actually cares about the fans and people that spend their hard earned money in that neighborhood? How about parking? How about access to public transit other than the L? Should I continue? I'd be willing to bet that you live in Wrigleyville. Answer honestly... Traffic problems would be just as bad if the the Stadium was put in one of the burbs (getting around on the Dan Ryan is never fun). If it were put near a major highway like in Florida or Philly there would be no where to hang out before and after the game. I love Wrigley and think in this respect part of the goal is the process not just the destination. Get to the park early, take in the sights, have a beer or two and enjoy. And hail the tough!
  21. This has anti-trust suit written all over it. I'm not sure if it is worth it to Cuban though.
  22. He's going to come off the DL just in time for the I-Cubs to come to Memphis for a 4 game series in late April (I hope).
