  2. The Cubs are put together like a WalMart watch.
  3. Very good. Fontenot's not all that fast either. Seems like everyone has a catcher with a good arm. Except us. And San Deigo :-#
  4. Hopefully he's lucky for one more inning and the Cubs score another run or two. The bullpen can take over after 6.
  5. I agree with this. I mean, it's the only thing that remotely makes any sense whatsoever. The question is showcased for whome??????
  6. The most highly optimistic view would be that the Cubs really do value Murton highly, and see them as part of their future, but sent him down for two reasons: 1 - to get consistent ABs, and 2 - to get himself comfortable in RF someplace other than in the bigleagues. Now whether that interpretation has any validity is anyone's guess. But just because a young guy gets sent down, and a lesser player assumes his spot on the big club, doesn't automatically mean that the team doesn't value that young guy. What does Murton need to work on? The idea that RF is *that* much different than left is balderdash. The difference is longer throws to third and a different POV on the game. Murton doesn't have a great arm so he seems more suited to LF. The problem is the Cubs think they need to get a run producer out there. Maybe they do, but they also need guys to get on base too. Although I don't think the Cubs will do it, Soriano seems much more suited for RF and Floyd/Murton seem better suited for LF. I guess they don't want to switch Soriano again. Which brings me to my last point, Murton doesn't really have that much trade value as a stand alone. He's not going to be an elite outfielder and most teams want power from the corners. A team like the A's, Boston, or San Deigo might value Murton's skills but they are not likely to want to give up much to get him. I think the Cubs will have to package Murton with some other talent to get any value for him at all.
  7. You can't teach pitch recognition. It's a skill based on eyesight and reflexes, and if you don't have it there is nothing you can do about it. Patterson had other, raw athletic talents that let him do decently in the minors, but no amount of coaching could change that basic fact. That's not even in the same universe as truth.
  8. What time do they play the games in Mesa? I saw on CNN that is supposed to be like 110F for the next week. That would suck to catch in that weather.
  9. Well that makes a helluva a lot of sense for not playing him now. Jesus Christ this organization is terrible. Either send him back down or let him play. You don't get better at doing something by watching others do it. At some point you have to do it yourself.
  10. Just because Young likely threw at Lee doesn't mean he's not a good pitcher and not the most worthy, out of the Last Ballot candidates, of being in the All-Star game. Z isn't saying that Young's a great guy. All Z is saying is that Young has outpitched Z this year. Which is true. As far as the rest of it, what you said later is probably correct - that he's not best buds with some of his teammates. I don't think it matters who goes to whose house for cake and punch. I also don't think we can know who likes who and who doesn't. and most impotantly, who gives a carp? Not me. Abuck has some unkown reason to hate Zambrano. Keep it, it is your bricks to carry. Enjoy the load.
  11. You get your wish. I'd like to see some All-State insurance runs here.
  12. damn him. damn him. Why don't they just dfa him?
  13. Come on Koyie. Do you think his mom was fond of goldfish?
  14. Maybe a stupid question but what is Chimay? Belgian style beer. It's very good and made by monks. Every cent goes to help the less fortunate. http://www.chimay.com/
  15. If Z can get out of this with only giving up 1 run I will be happy. Also, as a side note. I found a local wine store that sells Chimay. Big beautiful bottles of Chimay. 12 bucks though.
  16. I thought I read today that he is starting tommorow Excellent. Bruce said in another thread that Lou and the coaches are working hard with Felix to get him to improve mechanically before they start giving him regular PT again. Just like they fixed Murton? No, the opposite actually. Murton changed his mechanics over the winter, and the coaching staff wanted him to change back to what he was doing at the end of last year but Murton refused. I don't think that's true but, whatever. Pie's played pretty sporadically during his struggles. I like to call it The Murton Treatment. The Cubs always find a way to do the wrong thing no matter who is in charge. That info is from Murton's own quotes-what reason would he have to lie about that? As for Pie, I guess we'll have to wait to see what kind of adjustment they made to his swing before figuring out if it's good or bad. Bruce said it's some sort of toe tap, which might help him. Thats wrong. Murton said he never changed his mechanics, but Lou is saying he did. Murton said he didn't change his swing or his approach. He said he did change his stance, but denied that it was affecting his hitting at all. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070613cubsmoves,1,2566504.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines Whatever man. Drop it. Game thread. Stupid walks c'mon z
  17. 410 I believe Where are they building the new park? Z is looking good tonight, at least on gameday. I really have no idea about the new park. I only know it's 410 to CF because BB was talking about it earlier. RFK and ProPlayer are about the two worst "baseball" stadiums ever. I was wondering if they are going to build in Virginia or in DC. It would be great if the stadium were in DC with a view of the Washington Monument. just found that it going to be in DC. http://www.jdland.com/dc/stadium.cfm I can't say I like it. I hate those bowls. No wind will circulate.

  21. Did Pie die or something? What a wasted opportunity.
