  1. I'd like the Cubs to get Dunn but they don't have a positon for him becuase they refuse to move Soriano to RF. It is also my opinion that the Cubs do not want Dunn b/c he strikes out too much and doesn't play good defense. If they were to get him they would probably mis-manage him by hitting him 6 or 7. In short, I like him, the Cubs don't and wouldn't use him properly anyway.
  2. An excuse is an explaination that has no validity. What Murton said was the truth.
  3. Fontenot hasn't come out of nowhere. His minor league numbers have always indicated he could hit. Why it took the Cubs this long to bring him up is a mystery to me. Fontenot has come out of nowhere. There are plenty of minor league players that hit well and still aren't considered good prospects or able to adjust to the majors. I don't seem to recall Fontenot in the top 10 of any prospect lists recently or reading in any reputable publication that he was MLB material (Certainly he has had his supporters on this board, and Kudos to them). Great to see him having a break out year, and taking advantage of his opportunities. Fontenot was up for a brief period in 2005. I saw him pinch hit in Pittsburg. He's been languishing in the minors for Dusty's entire tenure. Having written that, he's nothing to get excited about.
  4. I didn't know proactive was a buzzwrod.
  5. This sounds like something you'd hear in a business meeting about Global Integrated Business Solutions. You were at that meeting too? :P no, but i will watch the U.S. Open this weekend, and hear plenty of meaningless business catch phrases! Actually being proactive rather than reactive is not a meanigless phrase either in business or in education. It's much easier to prevent a problem than it is to deal with a problem after it has occurred. The trouble is prevention prevents the person from experiencing the contingencies and although we are verbal animals we don't often follow rules that don't have strong, immediate, probabilities. So we have to react to a situation that could have been prevented. Brushing and flossing is but one example.
  6. got any numbers to support that ridiculous claim? didn't think so. honestly though, i would love to see you list all the instances where barrett's d cost the cubs a run. That's the beauty of "he doesn't call a good game" Just blame everything that goes wrong with a pitcher on the catcher if you happen to not like him! The proof's in the pudding, look how bad he pitched!! All that may be true, Barrett is still a terrible defensive catcher. If he hits, I'm fine with him behind the plate. If he doesn't/isn't he's worse than usless. My personal opinion is that defense at the catcher position is vastly overrated as long as it doesn't go too far to the extreme. I tottaly disagree. Catcher is perhaps the only positon where defense matters. The catcher has to set the target for the pitcher, he has to be able to anticipate when the ball is going in the dirt and where. He has to have a strong throwing arm. A team can get away with a butcher at most other positions but not at catcher. I don't really put much stock into game calling, b/c the pitcher or pitching coach is in charge of that. And CERA is a bunk stat. But Barrett sets up late, he hops around, someting moving the target, he has really bad footwork, sometimes stabbing at balls instead of blocking them with his chest protector, he releases the ball too high on throws to second and he doesn't go out to the pitcher's mound enough. Sometimes a pitcher just needs to slow things down a little. Barrett's defense is just good enough that he still has a job as long as he hits. If the Cubs had a better offense they could get away with not having him on the team, but they can't (as long as he is hitting).

  9. If he liked Ballplayers he would play Murton insteas of Jones and Floyd. He's as old school as we thought. And just becuase he's better than Dusty doesn't make him good. Is Murton hurt? Looking at all of Lou's moves so far this year, the whole Murton situation seems out of place. Murton is the type of ballplayer that you would think Lou would love. My guess is that there is more behind the scenes than we are privy to. I think Lou and Hendry want guys with more pop in their bat in the outfield to drive in non-existent base runners. It's what the old school manager would do. Meanwhile, neither Jones nor Floyd are hitting the ball out of the park, or hitting the ball for that matter.

  11. This game was lost in the 8th inning when the Cubs had basesloaded and no outs and failed to score a run. Dempster was just icing.
  12. He was taken out because of a contusion on his left hand. Got it when he was hit by Lilly in the 1st inning. [expletive].
  13. What happend to Renteria, I was watching the end of the Sopranos
  14. Marmol has to drill Edgar next AB. Drill
  15. I petitioned to have it banned a few years ago.

  17. Prior to the news of the sale, I could have seen a path for Hendry to acquire Tejada at the deadline. With Soriano, Ramirez, Lee and Tejada, the Cubs could live with DeRosa/Theriot at 2B, Murton/Floyd in RF and Felix Pie taking his time to come into his own. However we have to deal with the reality. Given the uncertainty of the finances with an imminent sale of the ballclub in the works, and a GM with an expiring contract, who's probably on his way out, if Hendry does make a move at the deadline, my guess is that it will be for a player who's contract expires at the end of the season. Assuming our biggest offensive weaknesses are at SS and C, is there a productive SS or C on the trading block, who will also be a free agent after 2007? If the Cubs could somehow winde up with Tejada for the Price of Jones + Mrton and MiL pitcher I would be ecstatic. I think he may be able to help them get in contention for the division as well.
  18. Me too.
  19. Hopefully he doesn't have to go to the DL. Stupid hustling, but at least all the jackass sports djs and and baseball know-noithings will be happy.
  20. Nobody likes that bastard. You mean liked. I heard he got banned or somehting.
  21. yeah, i won't bitch about the cubs wasting millions on samardzija and other assorted major league players, but then all of a sudden having to obey slot money the year that a big piece to the puzzle is available in the draft. So who are you bitching at? I have no idea. Just bitching in general. It still seems ridiculous to me that the Cubs have to be handcuffed by money during this draft, when the actual budget for a draft is such a small part of the overall spending on the team. It seems to me that as long as the Trib owns the Cubs, they should operate like a large market team, and the next person coming in knows that they're buying a large market team. It's the uncertainty of future ownership that's causing this. It's nothing to blame the Cubs about at all - for once. This truly is a Trib decision. fine, then the trib is wrong It's BS too. They let hendry spend money like a druken sailor in Amsterdam and knew the Cubs were to be sold. It makes no sense at all and would seem to me to actually be a detraction to a potential buyer. It would be like cutting on plant maintenance and setting up the machines to fail after the sale.
  22. [grabs crotch][/grabs crotch] "You see this glove? It's made of gold!" [grabs crotch][/grabs crotch] Nobody needed a case of Micitan more than Neiffi.
