  1. I wouldn't say without power. Right now his AA numbers project him to hit 30-35 doubles, 6-8 triples, and 15-20 homers over a full season. While that isn't a ton of power, that's certainly not no power. His slugging percentage is .459 That's pretty much no power. It would be 68th out of 176 qualified players in the major leagues. So that would be an above average slugging percentage overall. If you look at just CF's, he would be 6th out of 22 qualified. He would be just behind Grady Sizemore, and ahead of guys like Bill Hall, Mike Cameron, Vernon Wells, and Andruw Jones. If you have a SLG percentage above .450, that is not even close to no power. It's not great, but it is definitely above average. Now, his numbers at Tennessee are not that exciting overall still, but the numbers since the break are much better and are somewhat exciting. Hopefully as time goes on he shows that the first 70 at-bats was just adjusting to AA. When are you going to learn that it is not ok to project from a limited set of data? Colvin may very well be an average to above average power hitter some day, but the numbers don't say it is so.
  2. o m g Because we all know that the 16-8 record the Cubs have is directly related to Hill being behind the plate. What a moronic thing to say. Her baseball acumen is right up there with the average 12-year old.
  3. Save it for after the Superbowl when we are all bored and baseball signing are about done.
  4. Same author. Go Cobs!!! Franswothr sucks.
  5. Seriously? Well, I hope the Cubs either make the playoffs or tank the rest of the season.
  6. What can you say? The dude loves him some bullpen arms.
  7. Is it me or is Hendry a bad roster manager. It seems like every year something happens.
  8. The Cubs and Brewers both have 52 losses... The problem with the Brewers is that over 46% of their offense is homerun dependent. How's that a problem? It's a problem because they aren't able to score enough runs, on most days, to win when they don't hit homers. It's not a well rounded offense. The way some people are talking, the Brewers should have fewer loses and more wins. They've out homered the Cubs by 64 (and two players combine for 52). I think what you are failing to grasp is that each HR equals at least 1 run. Being "well rounded" is a non-sequiter as is the number of losses each team has. Give me a team of HR hitters any day.
  9. That, and the guy is a freaking artist or something. Maybe he has a degree in phyisics, I don't know. But from judging the article I'd say I don't want him near a bridge or building.
  10. See, thats all I cared about. I don't really care what the article was actually about, but the flat out six word dismissals piss me off. Then change your freaking pants. The story is so bizzare it borders on "The Onion" territory. People want to belive that Bonds is the boogie man and eat this nonsense up.
  11. Will Carrol is great
  12. I guess he'll have to go in his pants then, becuase he never gets a chance to get to the crapper.
  13. First batter of the game! And the last batter of his game (in a tough spot - 2 on, 2 out). Jeff's final line: 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 2 K/2 BB, 7 GO-9 FO. That's a really encouraging start. Hopefully he can put together a few good starts before the end of the year. I fail to see what is encouraging about those numbers.
  14. No, it's good enough. Unless the guard has a hydrolic ram in it and Bonds never ever hits a ground ball I see no real reason to believe this nonsense. Anyway, I've heard Bonds actually started the Chicago Fire.
  15. Right. That's what I was going to point out. A similar thing happend with the Marlins in 2003. Yes, those Marlins. Torborg was fired and Mckeon hired and all the sudden McKeon is a genius. What the baseball writers forgot to mention is that shortly before Torborg was fired, Miguel Caberra and Dontrell Willis came up and they stopped playing iffy veterns like Connine. Argumentum ad consequentiam and Post hoc ergo propter hoc, both logical falicies. Nice posts Jon and UK/Pinghitter.
  16. Under Hendry, the Cubs are a stupidly run organization. I have to think Lou is behind this. I also have to think that Murton is in the "never get out" dog house with Lou because he had the termity to question Lou's judgment and baseball acumen just before he was sent down. It' like goony wrote. It's sad and shameful, but it's the Cubs. Bringing up Patterson (the inferior prospect) over Pie when the Cubs are supposed to be in a pennant race is just plain stupid. Which brings me back to my first sentence. I, for one can't wait to find out who the new owner is going to be. I've about had it with Hendry and the Tribune.
  17. It's a completely bogus opinion piece. I don't know why people feel the need to vilify Bonds. He does a pretty good job all by himself.
  18. Well, we need a leadoff hitter...At least that's their thinking. We have one. He's that little guy who's been playing SS for us. How bats second? How? Anyway, I hate, hate, hate the "we need an X hitter". The Cubs need a CF and now a LF. They can put Floyd in left or they can put Murton in LF. They should put Pie in CF, but they won't. For that matter they should bring up Soto and give him a chance for cryiong out loud. There is very little chance he'll be worse than the Hill/Kendall tandem. They can let Muton lead off or Fontenot or Theriot or DeRosa.
  19. The new interface looks great. I'm not much of a serious football fan though. Good Luck
  20. That's well over 5M page loads last month. I can work to optimize the site graphics a bit and that will help, but it's mainly just traffic. I'm sure a significant number of those are from people constantly refreshing the game threads. Not sure if there's a way to get around that, or cut it back, just throwing it out there. Or it could be the vast majority of people who post without thought to paying $5 dollars for the month.
  21. I clearly remember Stone saying that the Cubs should break the bank to sign Carlos Beltran. I like that kind of philosophy. I clearly rember him saying Izturis was a great pickup for Maddux. Saying the Cubs could should get Beltran is like me saying Beyonce is hot or Britney is lonney. It doesn't really take a genius to make that observation.
  22. Why? I think people, including myself are pointing out that we are no longer hot and playing above .500 baseball. during a completely arbitrary period selected solely to support your own opinion. give it a rest. Give what a rest? Defending my point? It's not like I'm selecting random dates. I'm selecting the last 13 games that the Cubs have played, a stretch that constitutes 8% of the season in order to say that the Cubs have not been hot over the past 13 games. But you're right, the next time I have an opinion, it will be better for me to select stats that completely refute my opinion. Thanks for the advice. Maybe it is just me, but selecting the last 13 games seems pretty random to me. Why not 15 or 20 or 10? \Because of the series in which they've played. Keep the glasses on the vision is better.
  23. which stat is more closely corelated to wins? There is your ansewer and there can be no debate.
  24. I have never said this before either as a player or as a fan, You cannot beat the umpire. I've never seen a worse game behind the plate than I saw today.
  25. Beano Cook is a Turkey Wadling, Notre Dame ass kissing, fat gas bag, college football analyst. What does he know about the Cubs? Go to hell you fat old fart.
