  1. Right. That's what I was going to point out. A similar thing happend with the Marlins in 2003. Yes, those Marlins. Torborg was fired and Mckeon hired and all the sudden McKeon is a genius. What the baseball writers forgot to mention is that shortly before Torborg was fired, Miguel Caberra and Dontrell Willis came up and they stopped playing iffy veterns like Connine. Argumentum ad consequentiam and Post hoc ergo propter hoc, both logical falicies. Nice posts Jon and UK/Pinghitter.
  2. Under Hendry, the Cubs are a stupidly run organization. I have to think Lou is behind this. I also have to think that Murton is in the "never get out" dog house with Lou because he had the termity to question Lou's judgment and baseball acumen just before he was sent down. It' like goony wrote. It's sad and shameful, but it's the Cubs. Bringing up Patterson (the inferior prospect) over Pie when the Cubs are supposed to be in a pennant race is just plain stupid. Which brings me back to my first sentence. I, for one can't wait to find out who the new owner is going to be. I've about had it with Hendry and the Tribune.
  3. It's a completely bogus opinion piece. I don't know why people feel the need to vilify Bonds. He does a pretty good job all by himself.
  4. Well, we need a leadoff hitter...At least that's their thinking. We have one. He's that little guy who's been playing SS for us. How bats second? How? Anyway, I hate, hate, hate the "we need an X hitter". The Cubs need a CF and now a LF. They can put Floyd in left or they can put Murton in LF. They should put Pie in CF, but they won't. For that matter they should bring up Soto and give him a chance for cryiong out loud. There is very little chance he'll be worse than the Hill/Kendall tandem. They can let Muton lead off or Fontenot or Theriot or DeRosa.
  5. The new interface looks great. I'm not much of a serious football fan though. Good Luck
  6. That's well over 5M page loads last month. I can work to optimize the site graphics a bit and that will help, but it's mainly just traffic. I'm sure a significant number of those are from people constantly refreshing the game threads. Not sure if there's a way to get around that, or cut it back, just throwing it out there. Or it could be the vast majority of people who post without thought to paying $5 dollars for the month.
  7. I clearly remember Stone saying that the Cubs should break the bank to sign Carlos Beltran. I like that kind of philosophy. I clearly rember him saying Izturis was a great pickup for Maddux. Saying the Cubs could should get Beltran is like me saying Beyonce is hot or Britney is lonney. It doesn't really take a genius to make that observation.
  8. Why? I think people, including myself are pointing out that we are no longer hot and playing above .500 baseball. during a completely arbitrary period selected solely to support your own opinion. give it a rest. Give what a rest? Defending my point? It's not like I'm selecting random dates. I'm selecting the last 13 games that the Cubs have played, a stretch that constitutes 8% of the season in order to say that the Cubs have not been hot over the past 13 games. But you're right, the next time I have an opinion, it will be better for me to select stats that completely refute my opinion. Thanks for the advice. Maybe it is just me, but selecting the last 13 games seems pretty random to me. Why not 15 or 20 or 10? \Because of the series in which they've played. Keep the glasses on the vision is better.
  9. which stat is more closely corelated to wins? There is your ansewer and there can be no debate.
  10. I have never said this before either as a player or as a fan, You cannot beat the umpire. I've never seen a worse game behind the plate than I saw today.
  11. Beano Cook is a Turkey Wadling, Notre Dame ass kissing, fat gas bag, college football analyst. What does he know about the Cubs? Go to hell you fat old fart.
  12. What is the future for Dopirak and Harvey? Dopirak still can't get on base or hit for much average but has 13 HRs. Does he have any tradevalue whatsoever? And Harvey can't hit or stay healthy, but he can pitch, or at least could at one time. I had sky high hopes for these two, but they both look like they'll never see the big leagues.
  13. I've got an idea, how about they play him more often. 2-3 with 2 doubles, RBI, walk, and GW run scored.
  14. Yea, it was the Wood game. He hit a HR in the sixth (I believe) and then didn't come out for the 7th. He ran the bases fine. Weird
  15. If all these guys are billionaires I don't understand the need for partners. Is it becuase he trying to eliminate potential rivals? Anyway, as long as the get people who can make good baseball decisions (i.e., not hire steve stone in any baseball related/non commentary position) and spend money the way the Trib has since 2000 I'll be happy. I can't say I like anything about the Cannig Group though just from reading the blurb.
  16. He's been saying that all year long after a short outing. Yes, IMO this team is ONE of the worst since the late 90s. ONE of not THE.
  17. Alright! Maybe this is the Cubs year. They have probably one of the worst teams they've had since the 90s and they may just make the playoffs.
  18. Maybe the results of this game will push Hendry and Lou to call up Soto.
  19. Jimmy Rollins must really hate the Cubs to be attempting a steal of 3rd.
  20. I wonder what is going on. Last night he hit a HR then was taken out by Listash. At the end of the game I didn't see him come out of the dugout. He didn't look hurt running around the bases.
