  1. hahahahaha!
  2. i hope that obama asks to take his oath with his right hand on the koran rather than the bible, just to watch the right wing collectively go insane. I hope its on a Hustler with nude pix of Palin form one of her many colleges. You know there are some out there somewhere.
  3. having taught some of these students, I can say they definitely have a grand sense of "grade entitlement". They expect A's, and if they don't get one, they expect you (the prof) to provide them an avenue to change the grade to an A. If you don't give them that avenue (re-doing the work, extra credit, etc.) they throw a colossal fit. There is nothing in your statement that separates NW students from University of Memphis students. I can pretty much guarantee you that the two groups aren't in the same tax bracket most of the time.
  4. That's why I said if the Cubs are stuck with Fukudome they may have to do it. However, a Fukudome/Johnson platoon isn't cheap. A Pie/Johnson platoon would be cheap though. I also know that the Cubs got pretty good production out of Edmonds/Johnson last year and know full well that I may be way off base here. If I had more time and interest I'd look at other platoons and see what kind of production/cost ratio they generate.
  5. Why don't you want Johnson back? He'll be 32 and because he's roughly 1/3 of a useful player. Pie plays better defense so if you want a defensive replacement use Pie. A team like the Cubs should only platoon if they have to. They should not plan on a platoon before the season starts. It's is a waste of both roster space and money. I don't understand many people on NSBB who talk about platoons like they are a good thing. But that's just me. I have no problem if they are signing him up for a 4th OF position. But if we know Fukudome can't hit lefties (which he couldn't last year) then it makes sense to bring in Reed as a platoon guy. You don't want to build for platoons, but if you currently have a player who needs to be in one, then it makes sense to have one. I know. It's just one of my many irrational beliefs. I know it's not right, but if Fuku cannot hit lefties he shouldn't be starting, especially in the NL Central.

  7. Isn't there some stories about Fukudome not wanting to play CF and choosing the Cubs b/c they had him slated in RF? I don't want Johnson back and I'm not sure Fuku can handle CF but I guess they are stuck together (Fukudome and the Cubs) so they might as well make the best out of a bad situation.
  8. General Manager, but we whiffed on that one. Nearly as predictable as wrigley23. But much more correct.
  9. It's funny that two organizations have now mishandled Prior. Makes you wonder if he's part of the problem. I don't want a guy who squats to pee anyway. If you know what I'm talking about and I'm sure you do.
  10. There isn't enough talent in any of those rosters either badumbum I'm here all week folks. Don't for get to tip you waitress.
  11. Does he think hes writing an article for a video game audience? Seriously, that might be the most [expletive] trade proposal that has been published...thats quite an accomplishment. It's worse than some of the most ridiculous trade proposals that posters on ESPN.com and Cubs.com would propose. But what do we know, we've never been in a big league locker room while everyone played grabass and poker.
  12. Good for Listach. I know this is anecdotal and that a lot of the players moved up and/or down, but I could see a noticeable difference in the Smokies from the previous years to last year in terms of being ready to play.
  13. Very masturbatory.
  14. from missionary to doggie. EDIT: curse you BeerHere.
  15. I'd settle for a 1 year contract. The new owner shouldn't be saddled with a drunken sailor on shore leave. Hendry has spent an incredible sum of money to "stay competitive within division".
  16. If listening to Brenly is any indication, he does not show any evidence of it. He's all about manufacturing runs and playing the game the right way.
  17. Philly is a fine city. A passionate city, but a fine one. It's a good beer town.
  18. Park factors are among the most overrated "stats" among statheads. Non-statheads don't even think about them. The use of statistical formulas in this regard is to normalize the data so that someone can make a judgment between two or more players that play in different environments. However, the SD for park factors is so small that most of the time the data have very little meaning. Outside of places like old Coors (before the humidor) and Petco/Comerica most places play relatively similar. The question that's important is, does player A perform better in park 1 than he would in park 2? A guy like Slappy was able to take advantage of Coors and Pro-Player because they had huge outfields. He really is/was a better player when he played in Coors b/c the park suited his abilities. A guy who drives the ball in the gaps isn't going to be as good in Pro-Player as he would in a more symmetrical park. A guy like Hamilton who mashes the snot out of the ball will still mash the snot out of the ball anywhere he plays. So that means he's very likely to play well in a hitter friendly environment and play well in a pitcher friendly environment. All and all I would just look at OPS+ to try to determine offensive output when comparing players. Thanks, but I get all that. My question is how (or why) does a place like Rangers Ballpark go from 5th to 19th to 1st in park factor in a 3-year span. If you don't change the structure (or something like a humidor) how can the same park be hitter friendly, pitcher friendly, than the most hitter friendly place in 3 consecutive years. B/c they use runs scored as the primary dependent variable.
  19. I'm rooting for a sweep. Let's get this season over and get started on the hot stove league. I'm not a big football, basketball, or hockey fan so this is it.

  21. Good God... Many Jets fans started walking upright only a few short years ago. If gonny sees the dude in the fireman's hat I hope he clocks him one.
  22. Sciambi. I didn't know Sciambi did color with Len. That had to be incredible. Boog is even better than Len. The Marlins media guide says Len was on TV and Boog was on radio, but I could swear i heard them do innings together on the radio when I lived in MIami. I could be wrong.
  23. I'd like to see him teamed up with Boog Somby (sp?). They were great when they did the Marlins games.
