  1. Being good with money is an acquired skill, and there's nothing about pro athletes that makes them more likely to have that skill than the general population. That's why so many of them end up legitimately broke. right but i didn't say anything about pro athletes. this also happened to a hell of a lot of successful business people, enterpreneurs, etc. a lot of smart people lost a ton of money because of the ponzi schemes too.
  2. he also had a nice goal when jeff carter wisely decided to pass the puck to the best player in the nhl as he's wide open in the slot. otherwise it was a nice win for my flyers last night, only the caps' 6th home loss in regulation this year. arron asham, of all people, had a highlight reel goal.
  3. one thing all these stories make me wonder is, why were these rich people putting all their eggs in one basket? i know it's great to have an investment that is making you oodles of cash (supposedly) but if you're worth $5m or $10m why would you put all that money in one uninsured place? at least keep a few hundred grand in CDs or a money market or whatever. i think part of it is naivety and part of it is greed.
  4. if they got in trouble for paying their players, they wouldn't be a force. goes both ways.
  5. nice performance penn state
  6. i still don't know if the ball was out of harris' hand when the light came on at the scorer's table. i don't think the initial ruling (after the buzzer) should've been overturned.
  7. yeah i'm not sure how good brandon jones will be. plus back in the '90s they did have some veteran presence - sid bream, terry pendleton (everyone hated that signing), fred mcgriff, several bullpen guys, hell dwight smith wriggled onto that roster for a couple of seasons - plus they signed maddux :x . there's nothing wrong with going the route of free agency to fill in the holes. their problem is that they haven't developed good outfielders, not because they're blocking or dealing away good prospects. now if they trade jason heyward for moises alou or something, i'll change my tune.
  8. I think he'll drop, but his talent will keep him in the top 10. He's awesome. yeah but you're not going to make it in the nfl without at least putting some effort into it. basically telling every franchise in the league to blow it out their ass at the combine is a huge red flag.
  9. got any more openings?
  10. boy i don't know what the hell to do with andre smith in this draft.
  11. actually they should be pretty good this year, but their offense has some pretty big holes. they should've signed adam dunn.
  12. Make that four spots. It's down to me and my wife. Three other people have quit since I got here in late August. i can't imagine why, what with the great pay and the happening town and the lovely weather.
  13. darren sproles was franchised? lol.
  14. over/under on the nsbb meltdown of "God this team has too many holes, we're in trouble!!!!" i say 5th inning when we're down 7-1.
  15. he should have enough money from his signing bonus and then his years with the cubs. he's got a business degree so he will be fine down the road if he goes into something outside of baseball. he's still young; might as well try to get healthy and make a comeback if that's what he really wants to do. plus if you tap him on the shoulder he might get hurt again, amirite???
  16. wake is really lucky to only be down 11 at the half. i think they had about 20 turnovers in the first half, which is bad for an entire game. for a half it's atrocious.
  17. here you go, now you can say you have seen michigan in the ncaa's: http://umtailgate.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/spt-acthm3.jpeg
  18. why? if he wants to keep trying and someone is willing to give him a chance, what's the problem?
  19. sidney crosby sidney crosby sidney crosby
  20. oh hey look illinois didn't lose their last 5 games in a row, just like people who didn't become irrational after the penn state game said would happen.
  21. wut? okay, do you really need to quote a teammate on his statistics? can't you just go and look them up yourself? ryan, if you can really hit .350 just by focusing on doing that, then by all means please do it. was this article formatted by a four year-old? Hell instead of He'll? quotes from two people in the same paragraph? the theriot quote doesn't even have an end quote and fontenot's doesn't have a begin quote. it's friggin terrible.
  22. did the guy who called mark sanchez a good game manager know that he's mexican? i believe the game-manager label is reserved for white guys who don't make many mistakes.
