  1. 20-9 while playing one of the hardest schedules in the country should be a lock. What if they're 21-11 after a first game loss to Providence in the tournament next week? Or worse, they drop that game to DePaul? They'll likely be 1-7 against the Top 25 and 4-8 against the Top 50 going into the Big East tournament. I'm probably just more conservative than most, but to me a lock has to be able to lose the rest of their games and still get in. I don't think WVU can do that, or even be 100% safe at 21-11 considering they have 2 wins to hang their hat on for the whole season. nobody has lost to depaul, even rutgers... wvu isn't going to do so at home. They only lost by 2 to a better team last week. at home. pomeroy gives depaul a 1% chance of winning at west virginia. if we're going to assume that 99% is not a gimme then there are like 10 or 15 teams that are a lock.
  2. i thought i'd just be the first one to make wild and unfounded assumptions about his health.
  3. oh no he probably hurt himself running to second base!!!!
  4. if the cubs need a defensive replacement it's for fukudome in center, not soriano in left.

  6. Gaudin started and gave up three in the first inning, but was perfect in the 2nd and 3rd. bradley is DH'ing and is 1-3 with a double.
  7. hopefully by "the past" he means "three or four years ago"
  8. geovany soto credits losing 30 lbs with his breakthrough; i don't see why a player who lets himself go can't suffer a decrease in bat speed that ends up really crippling his career.
  9. pomeroy gives northwestern only an 11% chance of winning at purdue.
  10. ..... fat?
  11. 20-9 while playing one of the hardest schedules in the country should be a lock.
  12. pointless fighting with each other aside, there's really no reason to get crosby. he can't hit, he's injury-prone and he doesn't even offer platoon opportunities with our current shortshop, who's way better than him anyway.
  13. locks: acc: duke, unc, clemson, wake, florida st (5) big east: pitt, uconn, louisville, west virginia, villanova, marquette, syracuse (7) big ten: purdue, mich st, illinois (3) big xii: oklahoma, mizzou, kansas, texas - i think texas has enough strong wins to be a lock (4) pac 10: ucla, washington, arizona st - cal is really close to a lock but if they lose their road games to the arizonas and then crap out in the first round of the pac 10 tourney i could see them being left out (3) sec: lsu (1) - tennessee and south carolina close but not quite mountain west: utah, byu (2) - barring epic collapses. a-10: xavier (1) cusa: memphis (1) horizon: butler (1) wcc: gonzaga (1) that's 29 teams that i'd consider locks.
  14. a win over wake would've been huge for maryland's tourney chances, but they lost by a pair at home. new mexico's win over utah is pretty important, too.
  15. hopefully other teams around the league are smart enough to realize that clemmensen is a product of the devils' defensive system, and not a legitimate starting goalie.
  16. yeah damn you manny, for making ryan dempster throw all those balls, give up a grand slam to james loney, and take all hitting ability away from most of the cubs' offense. we're effed.
  17. the flyers won in boston tonight
  18. the big east picture is becoming more clear with notre dame losing a must-win game and cincy losing at south florida. barring a big run in the tourney, they're out, so you've got 7 teams definitely in (uconn, pitt, louisville, villanova, marquette, west virginia, syracuse), 1 team squarely on the bubble (providence) and then the rest probably out. georgetown could be a bit of a wild card though - they have to win their last two (@ st john's, home against depaul) and that would put them at 17-12 (8-10). not great but if they make a run in the big east tourney, they end up with 19 or 20 wins and a handful of elite wins as well (memphis, @uconn, @nova).
  19. i'd say you could safely include the summit. north dakota st is the best team but they haven't beaten a top 100 rpi team all year, and they have bad losses. as i've said before, i don't think davidson should get in without winning their conference tourney, because they have two bad conference losses at home. i suspect that siena and niagara don't have the non-conference win(s) to get into the tourney without winning the MAAC. st. mary's will be an interesting case if they lose to gonzaga in the conference final. gonzaga is obviously in either way. the horizon is pretty easy - they get two in if butler loses, and one in if butler wins. the MVC is tougher - creighton is borderline if they lose; if they win then the MVC should only get one bid. the atlantic 10 - xavier is in, dayton and uri are pretty close and i suspect only one of them gets in, temple has to win the a-10 tourney to get in. conference usa - memphis is in, uab could be interesting if they win the rest of their games and then lose to memphis in the cusa final. mountain west - utah and byu should be in barring a collapse; sdsu, unlv and new mexico are also in the mix. unlv seems to have more bad losses but also a pair of big road wins (@louisville, @byu). tough call.
  20. get your poop together, CT.
  21. http://www.mmocrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/picard-sigh1.jpg
  22. well there is still one good OT left so let's go that route, and since we're replacing john runyan with stacy andrews and tra thomas is 100 years old, we could use one. winston justice has been lousy (i thought he'd be good); andy reid loves him some fatties. so the pick is eben britton, OT, arizona. post count padder has been PM'ed.
  23. i'll do it but won't really be available over the weekend.
  24. yeah the rangers (one of the a's divisional rivals) were a steroid factory, it's not like those three guys on the a's were the only ones on the juice.
  25. scheyer should've gone the other direction, he probably could've gone the length of the court and dunked the ball without dribbling the ball once.
