  1. Where did you see that he turned down 7 mil? I was under the impression that he was having a hard time finding teams with interest. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/7-mil-no-good-for-pedro
  2. supposedly he turned down $7M for this year... i don't think the price tag is as low as a lot of you might think. not that he deserves as much as he wants, but when a guy has been playing for $10m or more per year, he's often too proud to settle for $2-3m.
  3. bizarro world tonight as the blue jackets kick the crap out of the red wings and the isles blow out the devils (big fan of the latter result) we beat the sexual predators in a more boring score of 4-1.
  4. at this point i'll end my part of the argument because both teams are boring and (most seasons) irrelevant, and this is too much time spent arguing over these two pointless teams.
  5. yeah that's not what happened. there's home cooking for everyone in the big ten, if you've watched any big ten basketball in any season you should know this. it doesn't matter what calls were going what way down the stretch; battle was getting calls in the last two minutes because he was driving to the basket and initiating contact with players who weren't set, weren't keeping their feet on the ground when contesting shots and weren't going straight up with their arms. iowa's guards don't have any athletic ability so they don't use their quickness and aggressiveness to get to the hole; if they did, they'd probably draw fouls and get to the line. don't let the fans' booing confuse you; they should've been pissed at the bad free throw shooting by your bigs and iowa pissing the ball away against the press, not by the officiating.
  6. wow that was a piss poor performance by creighton, i don't think they get in now. maryland finished 7-9 in the ACC... they might be on the outside looking in at this point, since the virginia loss is a "bad loss." cincinnati is basically done after losing at home to seton hall. kentucky has lost their last 4, including a really bad home loss to georgia - they don't belong in either. florida is 22-9, but a really soft 22-9. rhode island's shot at an at-large probably disappeared by losing at home to umass today. cal should be in even though they lost to arizona st.
  7. there should be a lot of guys who you would take theriot over.
  8. good for him, he still banked in two huge threes in overtime. might have something to do with him playing with a separated shoulder. i didn't say penn st was an up-tempo team, they're slow and boring too, just like iowa - which is why a lot of penn state's games are close too. but i do find it amusing that you're upset with me terming iowa a slow-paced, boring team. here's the pomeroy tempo rankings - note that iowa is 343rd out of 344 in adjusted tempo, and dead last in raw tempo. if you like those types of basketball games then that's cool; personally i think that style is slow (can't argue that) and boring (that's a matter of personal preference).
  9. It was a block. But the charge that went against Cole with 2 minutes left was weak also. Look at all of PSU's calls in the last 1:30. Battle and Pringle weren't even touched on their 3 point plays. Battle fell and they called a foul on Gatens. gatens went up with his hands above the defender, not straight up. of course that was a foul. and i'm sure you noticed the bogus call on d.j. jackson in the first half for backing the defender down in the blocks, when iowa spent the entire second half doing the same thing without a call. fouls were 19 for penn st and 11 for iowa; considering that iowa shoots 90% of their shots from beyond the arc i'd say that's pretty generous home cooking.
  10. the only thing phillips is qualified to comment on is how to cheat on your wife with 20 different women.
  11. wow buffalo? that's out of nowhere.
  12. all their games are close. that's a fallacy about iowa, what their record would be if they won most of their close games. they're going to have a lot of close games because they play a slow, boring style; they were a little worse than most of their opponents so they lost a lot of those games.
  13. it was pretty ridiculous that this game was scheduled for a saturday afternoon after a late thursday night game. oh well, the big ten wants to get their teams into the ncaa tourney but they're not doing themselves any favors with the scheduling. on the bright side, i'll get a chance to go to more penn st games this year, and their chances of winning a postseason tournament just went way up.
  14. that's great, two bricked-in jake kelly threes are going to send penn st to the nit.
  15. jake kelly is the luckiest basketball player i've ever seen.
  16. battle is 12-63 from downtown since the michigan st game... that's pretty damn bad.
  17. bullwinkle is completely worthless as a basketball player except for shooting threes, seriously, just face guard him and he can't' do a damn thing.
  18. seriously. STOP SHOOTING THREES battle should start trying to bank it in, a la jake kelly.
  19. give me a break.
  20. stop shooting threes, they're not going in even when it's an open look.
  21. you can't tip the ball on the way up morons.
  22. how about if cole gets the ball you just foul him rather than give up yet another easy layup.
  23. stop booing you hicks, you need to be set to draw a charge, not be sliding to your left with barely one foot on the ground.
  24. not that this game wasn't totally set up for iowa to win, but what a sad effort. also i like them showing a replay of cyrus tate mugging someone on a shot attempt, but because the refs are inept, he's the defender of the game.
