  1. yeah this one's getting away from penn st. probably gonna have to win one, maybe two games in the big ten tourney.
  2. iowa has fired up about 55 threes in this game; they're missing most of them but fortunately for them they're bricking them hard enough to get the long rebounds.
  3. 24-24 at halftime... yep, it's a big ten basketball game.
  4. michigan beat minnesota... i would've had minnesota as a definite "in" and michigan as definite "out" if minnesota had won, but this upset makes things more difficult. uconn (#1) fell to pitt, so we'll have a new #1 (again).
  5. i PM'ed him and haven't heard back... if he's not back tomorrow then it's go time
  6. holy cross is out west right now... they've played two games against arizona st and lost by a combined score of 27-1. seems like a bit of a mismatch.
  7. Why would you say that? Hill started with most of the other starters on Wednesday night. Randy Bush seemed to give them an equal chance in his interview on Thursday. I would assume they would be leaning towards Bako but I haven't seen anything from the club about that yet. this is a battle that i'm totally interested about.
  8. ah yes, "aren't vags." hey i'm meph, i'm a tough guy who lives in texas and drives a big-ass pickup truck, not one of these 18 year old vags who doesn't want to throw 115 pitches in february on 3 days rest.
  9. so i think the way i laid it out was right. needless to say, given that the other 9-8 teams are likey to win this weekend, the game at iowa is very important both for seeding in the big ten tourney, and for chances of getting into the field of 64 (65).
  10. hypothetically, how far could PSU drop if they lose tomorrow? back into a Thursday game? purdue @ michigan st indiana @ wisconsin penn st @ iowa michigan @ minnesota northwestern @ ohio st i'd say that ohio st, minnesota and michigan st are likely to win, wisconsin will win. so if those things happen and penn st loses, here are the standings: michigan st 15-3 purdue 11-7 indiana 11-7 penn st 10-8 wisconsin 10-8 minnesota 10-8 ohio st 10-8 northwestern 8-10 michigan 8-10 iowa 5-13 indiana 1-17 i don't know any way to break a 4-way tie other than put those teams' records against each other together and do it that way. if so, it'd be: penn st: 2 losses to wisconsin, 1 loss to ohio st, split with minnesota (1-4) ohio st: split with minnesota, beat penn st, lost to wisconsin (2-2) wisconsin: 2 losses to minnesota, 2 wins over penn st, 1 win over ohio st (3-2) minnesota: 2 wins over wisconsin, split with penn st, split with ohio st (4-2) so my GUESS is that you'd have the seeding go: 1. mich st 2. illinois 3. purdue 4. minnesota 5. wisconsin 6. ohio st 7. penn st 8. michigan 9. northwestern 10. iowa 11. indiana which would mean penn st played iowa again, ohio st got the gimme win over indiana and northwestern played michigan. then the second round game for penn st (if they beat iowa) would be against illinois.
  11. unless they have spring training for college teams, aren't they pretty much jumping from no game action to throwing 115 pitches? seems pretty dangerous for guys aged 18-21.
  12. Sure, anyone can play. I'd probably go team A, personally. Both are close, though. I don't even see how that is close. Team A beats team B in everything but strength of schedule and that is close. Team A has better overall record, better win percentage versus top 25 teams, no bad losses and a better R/N record. their strength of schedule isn't really that close. lsu will have played 15 top 100 rpi teams against utah st's 9; 6 of the 9 teams that utah st does play in the top 100 are rated 87-100. it's an really soft schedule; lsu's schedule is soft (especially OOC) but not as big of a joke. plus utah state's loss to boise state is a bad loss, i don't care if boise has a bizarrely-high rpi or not. boise hasn't beaten a good team all year and got destroyed by their two good OOC opponents (siena, byu).
  13. That wasn't his fault as much as it was the philosophy of the team. Perry doesn't get the credit he deserves. i don't really know how much a team (hitting) philosophy affects a guy like alou - he was a veteran; i suspect that he wasn't really going to change his performance based on the manager. plus his BB rate and K rate stayed basically the same - he just had a much lower BABIP and hit for a lot less power.
  14. You have to wonder what Harbaugh's impression of TO from his time there. He was special teams coach then, right? yeah i'd guess his impression of t.o. probably isn't so hot.
  15. i have cal and tennessee as locks now after winning last night.
  16. shouldn't that stadium also make a lot of hitters look worse than they are?
  17. pringle isn't important?
  18. i suspect his prospective employer is not thrilled to see him running up those kind of pitch counts to start the season.
  19. i was thinking the ravens might actually be a good spot for him; it's ray lewis' clubhouse and they need a #1 receiver badly.
  20. they called time out with 31 seconds. it's ten seconds to get across half court from when the ball is inbounded, not 10 seconds from the 35 seconds when the possession began. in related news, i don't know if i can sit in the student section any more. i wanted to just yell at tisdale all game and call him ugly and a goofy bastard who needed to eat a burger, but instead i found myself yelling back at idiot students who bitch about every call that's made, even though most of them are right.
  21. i think those are worse in reality, but pierre's is the worst simply because just about everybody with any common sense (i.e. not ned coletti) knew it was a terrible idea at the time. some people actually liked the jones and schmidt deals.
  22. EqA from 1998 through 2007: .327 .318 .306 .269 .279 .298 .315 .303 .320 which ones do you think he had as a cub? if you guessed "the worst three" then you're exactly right! he was a very good player, but unfortunately he wasn't a very good player for the cubs. i don't like him for that reason.
  23. i've decided that i am really interested in starlin castro. Lord knows the cubs have sucked at developing latin american middle infielders when every other team in baseball has like 20 of them as prospects to at least be decent backup options. castro seems to have a decent grasp of the strike zone and a little pop in his bat too.
  24. nice effort tonight flyers
  25. I'm trying to say this as objectionably as possible. I really could see them losing at Iowa. oh i definitely can see that. iowa isn't bad, that was an emotionally-draining win and the game is less than 48 hours away.... the flight to iowa leaves in like 10 hours actually. plus cornley is playing with one arm now and battle is struggling with his jumper. it's almost set up for penn state to lose. hopefully the possibility of getting the #2 seed and knowing that a win over iowa is just about a guarantee for the tourney will get them over the hump.
