  1. phantom holding call negates a touchdown for penn st, and then a pass into the end zone is overturned into a touchdown when it probably should have stayed as incomplete.
  2. unfortunately they have three more freebies on the schedule (home games against indiana, northwestern and minnesota) and should beat michigan st in e. lansing, so probably their only chance of losing will be at ohio st.
  3. this made me laugh: wtf???
  4. i almost feel like i'd do better on the yankees one than the cubs one because the yankees have a lot of really good players that play there for a long time, whereas the cubs a few mainstays (grace, lee, sandberg, sosa) and then a lot of positions with a revolving door of losers.
  5. they actually have some nice wins... at vancouver and home win over calgary. i maintain that ken hitchcock is a terrific coach. the flyers were really good most of his 3+ years there and the year he got canned they were pretty bereft of talent (plus waiting for carter/richards to grow into stars). and, i think that having played in hitch's system helped make guys like carter and gagne into good two-way players and helped make richards into a great one.
  6. they were my european team since i'm of sweden descent. they had some good teams in the 90s but seem to not be good any more. aren't the czechs and croats supposed to be pretty good? like, certainly better than teams like slovenia and bosnia and ireland?
  7. good Lord the opening day SP's between maddux and lieber were bad.
  8. i have no idea why figgins was walked so much. he has some doubles power but that's about it. most of the time if you throw him meatballs he'll hit singles; the worst thing you can do is put him on base for free.
  9. in before annual tomas kaberle trade rumors.
  10. i still have a myspace page, but i'm not really sure why. i never update it any more; all i use is facebook. i feel like myspace is mostly for high school kids and pedos at this point.
  11. that had better be a really good pitching prospect.
  12. detroit is getting shelled by buffalo tonight. the last 2-3 years detroit's roster has been so talented, and they have so many good defensemen and backchecking forwards, that they've been able to overcome average goaltending, but i wonder if they're slipping a bit now. lidstrom, as good as he is, is 39 now, rafalski is 36, lilja 34 and meech/lebda are mediocre. plus draper, maltby and holmstrom are long in the tooth and bertuzzi is a shell of his former self. i dunno, second and third lines of leino-filppula-cleary and holmstrom-williams-abdelkader just don't seem all that great to me.
  13. thanks j.r., why don't you post the one from game 6 so that we can relive that memory as well.
  14. he was in a very bad accident in which someone - probably a friend - was killed and another person was seriously injured. even without the injuries, psychologically it was going to be hard to recover from this in time to play. hopefully he recovers mentally and physically and is able to continue playing soccer at some point down the road.
  15. I doubt it. Maybe if he shows power. callis didn't have andrus in his top 50; lingo and manuel had him in the 30s. that's probably the best parallel for castro right now. andrus played his entire "age 19" season at AA, while castro played it at high A and then AA but was several months younger for his "age 19" season. castro has better contact skills and power potential, while andrus is faster and had plus-plus potential in the field. i'd say castro may be very slightly below andrus at this point as a prospect, but seeing what andrus did for the rangers this year - not-terrible offensively and very good defense - that's not a bad thing.
  16. i doubt it, imb is actually funny.
  17. mario manningham has been having a pretty good year so far, and i figure that the giants are going to need to throw a fair amount to keep up with the saints in this one.
  18. not sure, but given the post he just made in baseball discussions, he won't be here very long.
  19. he's living up to his scouting report, as the first ab was a ground out on an 0-1 pitch, the next two were singles on the first pitch, and the fourth ab was a single on a 2-0 pitch. doesn't get deep in counts and hits the ball pretty hard.
  20. i used to think charlie manuel was a bad manager, but i've come around 180 degrees on him. he plays matchups well and lets his hitters hit swing away instead of wasting outs. i like him now.
  21. kesler is really good all around. it was a good move for us to sign him to an offer sheet; unfortunately vancouver wasn't stupid and matched it. i'm wondering if henrik sedin will drop bricks on his own left foot until it breaks, since the sedins seem to be deathly afraid of distinguishing themselves from one another in any way.
