  1. That one pitch broke Lidge. He still hasn't fully recovered. except for last year when he was the best reliever in baseball and saved 100% of his opportunities in the regular season and playoffs.
  2. I don't remember what bowls get which Big Ten finisher, after the Rose Bowl, but PSU is going to have a tough time finishing higher than 3rd. I'd bet it comes down to Iowa/OSU with PSU 3rd. MSU 4th? Wisconsin? Hard to say. The Big Ten schools have played such crappy out of conference schedules that it's hard to know how good any of them are. wisconsin's schedule is pretty easy and they might only lose once more the rest of the way. i'm going to guess that osu only loses 1 game in conference and goes to the rose bowl, and iowa, penn state and wisconsin end up with 2 losses in conference, with everyone else losing 3 or more. i have no idea how the selections go at that point - my prediction is that wisconsin will have beaten iowa, iowa will have beaten penn st and penn st and wisconsin don't play each other. so i suppose it would be most fair that iowa and wisconsin get the new year's day bowls and penn st gets relegated to alamo or champs sports. according to their bowl projections, the alamo and champs sports bowls are both "big ten no. 4 or 5" so maybe they're interchangeable.
  3. college football news' bowl projections. i enjoy looking at these in large part to see what horrible matchups we might see; for example, virginia vs northern illinois, wyoming vs la tech and rutgers vs ohio. New Mexico Bowl Projection: Wyoming vs. Louisiana Tech St. Petersburg Bowl Projection: South Florida vs. UCF R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Projection: Marshall vs. Troy MAACO Las Vegas Bowl Projection: TCU vs. Stanford San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl Projection: BYU vs. UCLA Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Projection: Southern Miss vs. Nevada Emerald Bowl Projection: Florida State vs. California Meineke Car Care Bowl Projection: North Carolina vs. Pitt Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Projection: Minnesota vs. Central Michigan Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Projection: Clemson vs. Ole Miss Independence Bowl Projection: Texas A&M vs. Georgia Champs Sports Bowl Projection: Wake Forest vs. Penn State EagleBank Bowl Projection: NC State vs. Army Pacific Life Holiday Bowl Projection: Oklahoma vs. Oregon Roady's Humanitarian Bowl Projection: Utah vs. Idaho Texas Bowl Projection: Texas Tech vs. Navy Bell Helicopters Armed Forces Bowl Projection: Air Force vs. Tulsa Brut Sun Bowl Projection: Oregon State vs. Missouri Insight Bowl Projection: Michigan vs. Kansas Chick-fil-A Bowl Projection: Georgia Tech vs. Arkansas Outback Bowl Projection: WIsconsin vs. LSU Capital One Bowl Projection: Iowa vs. South Carolina Konica Minolta Gator Bowl Projection: Boston College vs. West Virginia AutoZone Liberty Bowl Projection: Houston vs. Tennessee International Bowl Projection: Rutgers vs. Ohio AT&T Cotton Bowl Projection: Nebraska vs. Auburn Papajohns.com Bowl Projection: Connecticut vs. Kentucky Valero Alamo Bowl Projection: Michigan State vs. Oklahoma State GMAC Bowl Projection: Virginia vs. Northern Illinois Rose Bowl presented by Citi Projection: Ohio State vs. USC Allstate Sugar Bowl Projection: Alabama vs. Miami Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Projection: Notre Dame vs. Boise State FedEx Orange Bowl Projection: Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati Citi BCS National Championship Projection: Florida vs. Texas
  4. yeah 2003 and 2006, basically the same experience as a fan.
  5. we already have soriano's albatross contract and declining production; why on earth would we take on vernon wells getting $86M from 2011-14?
  6. you are doing jokes/sarcasm wrong.
  7. i think the victor diaz game will be burned into my brain forever.
  8. it should also be noted that none of them lied to a federal grand jury.
  9. a lot of the reason those teams are giving up so many points per game is because they've only played like 5 games and one of those was giving up 40 or 60 points to texas. and really, aside from throwing 6 picks, mccoy has been fine. his completion % is still high and his TDs are down a bit, but they're scoring a lot of rushing TDs and winning pretty easily, so it doesn't matter much. obviously this is their first real test (though texas tech is probably better than people are giving them credit for).
  10. they were dead in game 3 because of the way they lost in game 2. frankly if holliday catches that ball, or they get casey blake out after having him down 1-2, or belliard hits the ball at someone, the cardinals very well might have won the series. they just got beat in game 1 but game 2 they very easily could have won, and if that happens they head home with a split and have a lot more energy. it's just tough to recover from losing that way and putting your back against the wall. that being said, i'm thrilled that they lost.
  11. nobody expects umpires to be infallible, and even good umpires will miss some calls, but there are notoriously bad umpires - bruce froemming, cb bucknor, phil cuzzi, doug eddings, joe west, angel hernandez, joe brinkman - who have been in baseball for years. everyone knows they suck and yet they keep their jobs. there should be some accountability, where the bad umpires are fired and good umpires from the minor leagues are brought in to replace them. there's accountability among players, managers, general managers... if a general manager was as bad at his job as c.b. bucknor (usually voted the worst umpire in the game by the players) is at his, he wouldn't last 13 years, as bucknor has. i'm not saying that mlb should clean house, but there's absolutely no turnover among umpires until they retire or decide to do something else with their lives, and that's stupid.
  12. it's fun to see pavano pitch well against the yankees, because yankee fans friggin hate him.
  13. early lines for games of note: texas -3 vs oklahoma iowa -1 @ wisconsin minnesota @ penn state -16.5 (nobody cares except me, probably) south carolina @ alabama -17 usc -11 @ notre dame california -3 @ ucla aTm -5 @ kansas st (thought line would be bigger, k-state is awful) va tech -3 @ ga tech (big game for the ACC coastal, which actually has three good teams - va tech, miami, ga tech. ACC atlantic, on the other hand, is downright bad) illinois -3 @ indiana (big ten toilet bowl) kansas -10 @ colorado navy -7 @ smu... not really an important game, but it's a team that doesn't pass versus a june jones team, which is fun.
  14. wasn't the broncos defense really bad last year? where did this come from?
  15. if you throw your shoe through the tv, please have a friend videotape this and then put it on youtube.

  18. there's going to be a stampede to pick up miles austin in fantasy football.
  19. man there are a handful of really [expletive] bad teams in the nfl.
  20. well he just caught a long pass and then scored a rushing td, so quit yer bitchin!
  21. lol one of the fatties on tampa just had a reception for a first down... pass was batted and he grabbed it and rumbled 15 yards. hilarious.
  22. hey look penn st is still ranked despite playing a bad team.
  23. jeremy maclin =D>
  24. i kind of have adopted teams in most of the conferences: big ten: penn st (went there) acc: ga tech (liked paul johnson at navy; offense is fun) sec: auburn (friend swam there several years ago) big xii: kansas (mangino!) big east: they kind of all suck, i guess rutgers since i'm from nj and my dad teaches there (got fed up with bandwagon rutgers fans when they got good, though) pac 10: can't say i care right now... do like stanford and oregon st a little; wazzu is fun to root for because they're so bad.
