  1. my vote in the mumme poll this week: top 5 florida texas alabama tcu cincinnati the rest iowa boise st oregon georgia tech penn st lsu usc top 11 were pretty easy... thought about houston, ohio st and pitt for #12 but went with usc. i think oregon is better than most of the teams ahead of them - probably not as good as the top 3 but it's close - but they did lose in week 1 and that counts, so i won't put them ahead of any of the undefeated teams since those teams all have solid wins.
  2. yeah, did usc lose a lot to the nfl last year? i expected their offense to dip this year with sanchez leaving, but have been really surprised at how poorly their defense has played this year. it hasn't just been tonight either; notre dame moved the ball well and so did oregon st.
  3. It had OSU #12 going into the National Championship in '02. It had Miami #1. OSU finished #8. the predictor was probably right; miami gained a lot more yards that game but lost because they turned the ball over 5 times. they were a better team than ohio st but picked a bad night to not hang onto the ball.
  4. hamels just isn't good any more. i don't know what happened to him this year. hopefully the yankees piss away the lead.
  5. when was the last time someone made usc look this bad? it has to be several years.
  6. usc is just flat-out being outplayed in this game. their defense has been surprisingly average this year.
  7. wish they could instant replay that "ball four" to teixeira.
  8. And at the end of October, no less! Shocking!! october is climatologically the second-driest month in philadelphia.
  9. werth really should bat 4th against LHP. he OPS'ed over 1.000 the last two years against LHP while ryan howard has been getting progressively worse. this year werth OPS'ed about 400 points higher than howard against LHP.
  10. masoli gave usc fits on that drive.
  11. good to know that redflash's blind homerism extends beyond alabama football.
  12. very much looking forward to the usc-oregon game, as well as the phillies-yankees game. texas-okie st will be decent if texas has a letdown. oklahoma is already laying the beat down on kansas st.
  13. nba teams have 5 assistant coaches? seems unnecessary.
  14. temple has a 6-game winning streak after beating navy and is now bowl eligible. that's right folks, temple is almost certainly going to a bowl game.
  15. kafka hurting his hammy really killed northwestern's chances to win this game. big games the next two weeks to shake out the conference, with osu @ psu next week and then iowa @ osu the following week. wisconsin is also in the mix for a new year's day bowl (they could easily win out @indy, vs michigan, @northwestern). i don't see michigan st winning out (they're the other team with 2 losses or less, but they are @minn, @purdue, vs psu).
  16. aside from south carolina and clemson pulling their teams from playing in bowls because of the 2004 brawl, i can't think of the last time a team did that. plus michigan would be turning down money that goes to the conference and an opportunity for their fans to come watch them play close to home, and would also piss off mike ilitch, who's a pretty big deal in michigan. turning down that bowl would be pretty insulting. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Michigan has to actually win another [expletive] game before their bowl eligible. Big, big game against Purdue next weekend. Michigan could be in trouble if they don't win that game. yeah they'll be a pretty heavy underdog at wisconsin and hosting ohio st, so as far as making a bowl game, they really need to beat purdue.
  17. this psu-northwestern game is really boring.
  18. not really, because then a team like duke or clemson or bc would make the bcs. georgia tech is really the only hope of having a good team come out of that conference. How many people would watch a BCS game between Duke and Cincinnatti. I'd say it'd be about 7. the orange bowl desperately needs the ACC and big east to get better.
  19. man, st. louis at detroit is just a wretched game.
  20. not really, because then a team like duke or clemson or bc would make the bcs. georgia tech is really the only hope of having a good team come out of that conference.

  22. Would you consider playing ranked teams like Ohio State and Notre Dame on the road (like USC did) as difficult as playing Akron, Temple and Eastern Illinois at home. Whew how did Penn State beat those powerhouses? is USC in the SEC? please, try to read or make sense once in a while.
  23. well let's see if penn state can possibly play worse than they did in the first half.
  24. http://www.littlecaesarspizzabowl.com the committee for that bowl would LOVE to get michigan (and they'd probably play a directional michigan team, so the game would probably sell out) but generally that bowl is for the northwesterns and purdues of the conference, not a team like michigan that considers itself a national power.
  25. michigan will probably beat purdue next weekend to get to bowl eligible, but it'd be funny if they collapsed and lost their last 5 games to miss a bowl. then again, it could also be funny to watch a program like michigan play in the motor city bowl or whatever they're calling it now.
