  1. nobody. that's a big reason why people hate the yankees; they have this sense of arrogance and entitlement about winning the championship. i guess it's kind of like michael bloomberg - when you wildly outspend everyone you expect to win.
  2. no Yeah I wouldn't assume that just yet, maybe we have a castro instead of a jeter or han ram. I'm excited about Castro too but you have to get a bigger sample size before biting into the hype. The most exciting part i got from the whole post is how big the cubs expect Castro to grow into. If he become 6'3 195-200lbs, I'd imagine he'd lean more towards a Han Ram than Jeter. if he pans out and reaches his ceiling then maybe he's a jeter (sure-fire hall of fame ss) or han ram (hall of fame ss if he keeps this up another several years). castro could also be an edgar renteria (solid ss but not hall of fame) or he could be the next rey ordonez. sometimes highly-touted prospects bust.
  3. who changed the thread title? when i become president it will become legal - nay, mandatory - for john sterling to be karate kicked in the throat anytime he launches into that awful call.
  4. congrats to the yankees, only took them $1.63 billion to win a championship over the past 9 years.
  5. if i was an nhl team with goaltending problems, i'd really try to pry tuukka rask away from boston. p.s. lol @ toronto for trading him away for andrew raycroft.
  6. honestly i hope that's what does happen. making guys like oden, mayo and jennings go to college for a year when they don't have any interest in getting an education is a farce, and can easily result in major violations of ncaa rules. hopefully those guys will follow the jennings path and guys who go to play college ball actually have some interest in school or at the very least playing ball for whatever college they chose.

  8. i think you have a misprint here.
  9. when we all do our offseason top 10s (or 20 or 30), i'm wondering how many won't have castro at #1.
  10. Mike Brenly is in there and he hit a HR. oh ok i didn't even look for him at DH. you never know, he could be a backup in the majors if he's good defensively and not hopelessly inept at the plate.
  11. this is fine, he's got solid OBP ability, can play a number of positions and is a solid defender. really for the money he's fine, and he'll probably be a type B free agent after this year and maybe the pirates get an extra pick or something. the part that doesn't make sense is that the pirates are going to lose anyway, so why not lose while paying delwyn young less money to play bad defense.
  12. he did bat once after hitting the triple, but if i recall correctly he struck out looking at three pitches. today was probably scheduled to be an "off day" for him since he'd played in the last two games. doesn't sound like a big deal but and hopefully it doesn't keep him out long; i'd really like to see him in that televised game.
  13. He didn't say "best", he said "one of the best." That doesn't mean he's above Beckham or Escobar.
  14. boring day today, none of our boys are in the lineup for mesa. just found this from, of all people, bruce levine:
  15. i love castro but i don't know that i'd put him above beckham or escobar yet. i really like both of those guys. still, if castro is ahead of them i don't see how he's not top 25. seems weird to me.
  16. is kafka out? if so there's no way that northwestern beats iowa.
  17. i see you're sticking with the 12 year old girl on myspace avatars, CB.
  18. It worked last week. Ryan Howard was on the cover and he's something like 3-for-19 in the series with 12 Ks. not hugely surprising since howard is terrible against LHP and he's faced sabathia twice, pettitte once, and probably a lefty reliever or two sprinkled in.
  19. Boise State's schedule, besides Oregon, is complete and total garbage, pretty much. TCU, meanwhile is playing in a league most consider better than the ACC at this point. The Mountain West better than the ACC ? Not really. All would agree that the ACC Atlantic is mediocre at best, but the Coastal has 3 solid teams who have all played a solid schedule thus far in 2009. One source, the Sagarin ratings has 5 ACC teams in the Top 20 of SOS. The Mountain West has 3 in the Top 50. With that being said, I'd love to see TECH run the table the rest of the way and go against TCU in the Orange Bowl (if TCU can't leapfrog into the championship game --- they would against a 1 loss Texas team who has a weak SOS). people would argue that because the mountain west has three good teams, one of those is really good, but the mountain west overall is nowhere near as good as the acc. the dregs of the mountain west (sdsu, colo st, wyoming, unlv, new mexico) would get smoked by the bottom of the acc (duke, virginia, wake, nc st, maryland). plus you can match up the top four in each conference fairly well - ga tech is probably a little worse than tcu, va tech probably a little better than utah, miami roughly even or slightly better than byu, clemson is better than air force).
  20. he hasn't been great but he's been fine, and do keep in mind that he just turned 20 and is probably about 3 years younger than the average participant in the league.
  21. eagles-cowboys this week is really big. probably bigger for us since we're at home. the sunday and monday night games are both excellent matchups. lines this week: Kansas City Chiefs @ Jacksonville Jaguars -6.5 O/U 42 Baltimore Ravens -3 @ Cincinnati Bengals O/U 43.5 Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts -9.5 O/U 48 Washington Redskins @ Atlanta Falcons -10 O/U 42 Green Bay Packers -10 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers O/U 43.5 Arizona Cardinals @ Chicago Bears -3 O/U 44.5 Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots -10.5 O/U 46.5 Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints -14 O/U 51 Detroit Lions @ Seattle Seahawks -10 O/U 43.5 Tennessee Titans @ San Francisco 49ers -4 O/U 40.5 San Diego Chargers @ New York Giants -4.5 O/U 47 Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles -3 O/U 47.5 Pittsburgh Steelers -3 @ Denver Broncos O/U 39.5
  22. Bill Walton sucks, I'm glad hes done broadcasting. He's damn near impossible to listen to for a full game. watching bill walton call a game where shaq is playing is like listening to john madden call a brett favre game.
  23. A triple and a homer is nice says Goldstein, but where is the double and single he needs with it? :D On a side note(and it's actually very cool in a way that it is just that) but Vitters has hit damn well in his own right this fall. I'm starting to wonder if we see him start at Tennessee instead of repeating Daytona. He shouldn't even be considered for AA. i wouldn't say that... it depends how much he does during the offseason and how he looks in the spring. castro hit fairly well at short-season rookie ball in 2008 but i thought that jumping him to daytona was a terrible idea. as it turned out he had improved a lot during the offseason and more than held his own at high-A, and was in AA by september.
  24. gonzalez was on the team; i'm not familiar with this bartman person. what do the simpsons have to do with this?
