i dunno, these bowls have a gravy train going right now, they'd be stupid to shun boise state (who beat oregon, who completely rolled usc) and take an unimpressive three-loss usc team. that's the sort of thing that gets people's ire up and you end up with protests and congressional investigations and crap. just take a high-profile team and boise st, you'll do fine.

I can see Starlin coming up, putting up decent numbers as a 20-21 year old and getting panned because he's not Hanley Ramirez, getting booed because he's not living up to the hype and finally getting sent out of town. it's really up to the cubs. dustin pedroia was lousy after being called up in 2006 and was really bad in his first month in 2007, but the red sox - being an intelligent, well-run organization - trusted their scouts and stuck with him, and he ended up hitting really well that year. if the cubs believe castro is ready and call him up, they need to stick with him regardless of whether he struggles for a week or a month. they can't do what they did with pie and pull the plug after a string of 4 bad games.

Oops apparently it's hard to win when you shoot 30% and the other team shoots 57%.

they will have to move somebody at some point. the key is having guys who perform up to the level of their contract. nobody was going to take danny briere's contract off the flyers hands, but joffrey lupul was reasonably priced at around $4M per year so the flyers were able to swing him to anaheim so they could take on pronger's contract.

castro is 0-2 (pair of ground outs) and vitters is 1-2 (double). i noticed that castro has just 1 error in 25 games. i know he has DH'ed a few games, but that's still very impressive. EDIT - the inning after i post that he makes a throwing error... hahaha -

fuckin stevens. played a real solid road game for 2 periods, giving up only 18 shots, then got a 2 goal lead in the 3rd and then sat back and came inches from giving up the lead (21 shots allowed in the 3rd). this [expletive] has to stop.
