flyers signed jeff carter to a 11 year, $58m contract. very reasonable cap hit ($5.27M/year). in other news, the man they call bob (sergei bobrovsky) has been one of the best goalies in the league this year... what a find. my biggest concern with him is that he's young and didn't play that many games in the KHL. hopefully boucher and/or leighton start getting some more starts so that bob is still fresh late in the year.

Jim Thome had a OPS of 1.039 and a WAR of 3.6. In only 340 PA. jeez, really? i guess i was only looking at qualified hitters.

no offense to vlad guerrero, because he had a nice bounce-back year, but if no DH put up a better year than a .841 OPS and a 2.6 WAR, then the AL DH's were pretty damn bad this year. after further review, it was definitely a down year for the DH but ortiz should have won.

we just had a goal disallowed on a "distinct kicking motion" by hartnell where he turned his skate toward the net and the puck went in off it. why have the [expletive] rule if you're not going to enforce it properly?

Again, why did it "most confuse" you? Some of you are acting like Adolfo won the award or something. Gonzalez is a very good outfielder with a very good arm. No doubt his bat helped him, but I just don't see why it is so curious or why it is causing confusion that he won. the defensive metrics do not support the idea that he was very good or even above-average in the OF this year, which is a more objective analysis than your statement of him being "pretty badass"

old player skills plus late bloomer = guy who's not going to be good into his mid 30s. stay away. -
henne is definitely better than pennington at throwing the ball to the wrong team.

carlos gonzalez should not have won and i don't think that victorino is a gold glove CF - more like above average. no real egregious mistakes, though, and kudos to them for picking michael bourn, because he's the kind of player who tends to get overlooked because he can't hit.

claude giroux signed a 3 year, $11.25m contract extension with the flyers. the dollar value pretty much assumes that he's more like the player in the playoffs and the first few weeks of this season than the player he was for much of last season (solid but not really good). anyway, it seems like a reasonable deal to me, and he'll still be an RFA at the end of this contract, which is good.

i'd be surprised just because i have no idea how he's even employed any more. at this point i am operating under the assumption that wade phillips has compromising photos of jerry jones.
