terrible first inning for peoria - kirk gave up 2 home runs, a single and a walk and the defense behind him made 3 throwing errors. rusin has allowed 3 runs (2 earned) and 5 hits in 3 innings, but has just 1 bb against 5 K's. will probably be a tough task for the offense against matt moore.
he's thrown so many innings because he is an effective pitcher who (usually) (knock on wood) stays healthy, not because he squeezes an extra out or two.
that cuban guy is starting out pretty well at peoria. i guess if there's any positive about simpson's start it is that he has been singled to death - only 1 triple and then 7 singles. so it's not like he's giving up home runs and rockets into the gaps.
mickelson is actually a very good putter, he's just missed some pretty short putts at bad times. the bigger problem is that he sprays his driver around at a frequency that should be alarming to galleries everywhere.
That's ok. JeffH said we have no chance to win either game because of pitching matchups so we won't need Marmol anyway. JeffH says a lot of things. once in a while they're not wrong.
one note that i find interesting (and probably nobody else does) - the 1B for clearwater (daytona's opponent) is joe savery, who was a first round draft pick as a pitcher by the phillies and ended up being a bust. he's trying to make the rare transition from pitcher to position player. so far so good, as he's hitting .800 this year.
cerda is one of our few prospects who has a really good eye. if burgess developed some plate discipline and was less fat he'd be a really interesting prospect. i guess it depends on whether he can play a decent corner OF without giving back too many runs.
if barney could start walking he'd actually be a passable starter. though the walks would probably evaporate once pitchers realize he can't do much more than hit singles.
that is pretty much the same rationalization they used to sign soriano to a bad contract. i'd like to see them overpay for an albert pujols, not for a prince fielder.
i don't know who graham hicks is, but he's walked 6 and given up 3 hits in 4 innings, and has managed to give up only 1 earned run. he also has no strikeouts. some guy named rosscup started for daytona and had 5 ip, 5 h, 2 r, 1 bb, 5 k.
