    Strained right elbow. Cubs don't feel it's serious enough to bring him to Chicago to see the docs here. thanks... though i don't like the idea that a guy who doubled over in pain after throwing a pitch is diagnosed as "no big deal." hopefully they at least tossed him in an mri machine.

    I thought Tim Melville was the last to do that? Royals got him with a 4th round pick and a $1.5m bonus. i don't think that happened. the melville rumor was that he sent a letter to scouts giving them a dollar figure to get him signed. i'm not sure if that was true or not, but i found this from an article after he signed: if he truly felt committed to college and sent every team a letter telling them not to draft him, i don't think he would've cared that his draft stock slipped. i can't think of a guy who flat-out said that he wouldn't sign with anyone and was actually signed, though it has probably happened.

    i'd like clarification on a rule. here's the eligibility rule: so say i have a guy who plays 15 games at a position this year and then the rest at another position. is he eligible at both in 2012, or just the primary position?

    in favor of who? the imaginary #3 and #4 hitters the cubs have on their roster?

    he did it once, why wouldn't he do it again? it's obvious that he likes chicago and the cubs have money, so i'm sure they could work out a below-market price that keeps him in a cub uniform.

    Sure we do. We have plenty of guys having solid seasons. They just suck as a team. Aramis would generate interest. His track record speaks along.The power may not be there, but hes still hitting. Fukudome is still a good lefty bat and a great glove. Someone would take Pena as well, be it as a starter of a bench bat. Reed Johnson is having a good enough season that he could bring in a fringer or 2. Dont forget Kerry Wood. A lot of teams need help at the back of the pen. from another thread: fukudome isn't worth the $13.5m that they're paying him, and i suspect that they'd have to eat most of the remaining money to get any sort of decent prospects in return. pena is also highly paid for poor production, so same story. reed johnson was basically available to every team in major league baseball in the offseason, so he's worth about as much as a dump in a paper bag. kerry wood could bring decent prospects if he keeps pitching ok, but i'm not sure that he wants to be traded, nor am i sure that the cubs will want to trade him after he signed with them at a discount in the offseason.

    if you're drafting a guy like that it has to be outside the top 10 rounds. you don't spend an early pick on a guy who has a firm commitment unless you've got a good sense that you can buy him out of that commitment.

    i would say it's time for a fire sale, but we don't really have players that other teams want.

    what if we throw in brad snyder or casey coleman to go with soriano? maybe that would be enough for them to give up one of the best offensive prospects in baseball.

    The lineup looks like one of those September 2006 nightmares Dusty loved to assemble. why would you hit campana leadoff? oh right, he's fast. this is really just a horrendous lineup though, when you consider that two of them should be in the minors, hill should be looking for another line of work, and pena is a robust 2-for-36 against LHP this year.

    he must have been just added to the database. Or recently dropped by another Roadkill manager and not yet cleared waivers. Maybe he's claiming one of the minor leaguers I dropped to make room for the prospects from the Lincecum trade. that's not it so abuck's suggestion is probably correct. btw i hope one of the guys you're dropping is tim alderson... i didn't even know he was still playing. i saw him pitch for the altoona curve a year or two ago and his fastball didn't top 85 mph.

    well i have one of the worst scores of the week but on the plus side, shelby miller struck out 12 last night (now 81 K's in 53 IP), mike trout is OPS'ing about .950 in AA as a 19 year old, jacob turner will probably be ready for the major leagues by next year and anthony rizzo homered and has an OPS near 1.200 as a 21 year old in AAA. plus i should have early draft picks next year since my team sucks.

    the indians should call up jason kipnis and his .292/.368/.500/.868 line and shift orlando cabrera (.263/.293/.339/.632) to a utility role.

    is there a reason why i cannot add a certain minor league player immediately? it says i'm adding him on waivers and need to wait until monday morning, but i have room for a 10th minor leaguer and i obviously won't be using him on my big league club.

    there's a good chance that even dumpster diving will yield a player who can do much better than a 2.03 whip and a 7.32 era.
