  1. you can't go for "a few big overslots" when you're a team with tampa's resources and that huge number of early picks. you have to be realistic and reach a few times. as for getting picks back again next year, those lose the protection so they'd likely have to go safe with those next year, since tampa's bargaining power would be pretty poor if they were sitting there with 6 first and supplemental picks in 2012 and 4 of them are guys they just HAVE to sign.
  2. classic sedin swan dive/fake injury after the icing. what a joke those two pansies are.
  3. can't believe mahtook made it to 31... what a steal
  4. some scouts are old curmudgeons who don't like a lot of things.
  5. not that many players hit like that any more because most players aren't on steroids. castro and soto are a good start and their rotation, when healthy, is reasonably solid. and obviously the main thing is the money coming off the books in the next couple of years. the bottom line is, it's not hard for a team with the cubs' resources to make a quick turnaround.
  6. @thekapman is just trying to run the brown guys out of town
  7. Basically a meteor is heading for Earth as we speak and we have at most 36 hours left to live. Now this guy was far from a sane person, but it was depressing to hear nonetheless. yeah basically. the cubs are a big market team with lots of revenue streams; anyone who thinks their payroll will be dropping to $75 million is a moron who should be catapulted into the surface of the sun.
  8. showed up fat, isn't playing full season ball
  9. the cubs finished last with an atrocious roster built around broken-down starters in 2006, and made the playoffs the next year. apparently rosenthal and lots of other dolts can't remember events five years ago.
  10. i'm not too thrilled with the pick, if for no other reason that the cubs' recent track record with high school hitters and high school hitters from florida. i guess i just don't trust the cubs.
  11. someone tell logan watkins that guys with no power should not [expletive] strike out almost once a game. jae-hoon ha, who unlike watkins is a pretty good player, hit his 7th home run.
  12. minor league players taking up space on a major league DL does absolutely nothing to impact that team's competitiveness unless it has at least 3 players who are on the major league DL. i did not. as for minor league players taking up space on a major league bench, i've had peter bourjos and mike napoli sitting on my bench for weeks scoring no points. i've tried to trade napoli, and my trade offers have generally been ignored or rejected after like a week of "consideration." but i don't see how bourjos or napoli not scoring points instead of mike lamb not scoring points is impacting my team's competitiveness.
  13. I really doubt Lawrie would be made available. Chisenhall is a bit more likely, but not terribly so... we could probably pry away Kipnis though. i can't see the indians taking on that kind of salary. we'd have to eat a significant chunk of it.
  14. shouldn't brandon may really be at a higher level than the AZL? dude played 3 years of sec ball and is 23 years old.
  15. shawn marion was [expletive] terrible. 4-12 fg, 4 boards, 3 assists, 2 turnovers in 43 minutes. way to make an impact.
  16. paul sullivan is a worthless small troll who is probably still bitter that he was not cast in the lord of the rings trilogy as a [expletive] hobbit.
  17. he'll require an extra $100 million a year, a share in the team and expert falsification of his birth certificate to come play for a team as bad as the cubs.
  18. especially as the leadoff hitter. it's worse to put the leadoff hitter on, even if he is one of the best hitters in the game.
  19. ok and i already moved him off of the DL, relax.
  20. i'm not intentionally tanking. clearly i weakened my team by trading victor martinez and roy halladay, but i'm not trying to lose. i'm starting the best possible lineups that i can and using my available pitchers to get as close to 7 starts as i can. but yes, i've chosen to sacrifice my (very small) chance at winning this season to build a better team for future seasons. i appreciate the support on the DL issue though.
  21. it's hard to root for the cubs given the upside of them continuing to lose, but against the cardinals i'll make an exception.
  22. The replay was hilarious. Wade lying on the floor, grabbing his eye only after the shot missed, and pathetically looking towards the officials. i loved that he had lots of momentum going forward, landed and immediately fell backwards. like he was shot with a bazooka or hit an imaginary wall. then he has the gall to put his hands out when he's lying on the ground. but the reason he did it is because so many nba refs are stupid enough to fall for it.
  23. there was a supertramp concert on friday night (lol)
  24. If Wilken decides to leave upon Hendry's firing because of loyalty, he may not simply decide to stay because you offer him more money. However, whatever your opinion of Wilken/Fleita/Bush, they shouldn't be the only reason you keep Hendry around. If, in theory, it were a close decision they could be the tipping point to keep him if you like him, but if the Ricketts are convinced Hendry should go, they shouldn't change their mind simply to keep any of those three. why would wilken have some special loyalty to hendry? wilken had no connection with hendry before he was hired 5 years ago. if he gets mad because the cubs fire a GM who had done a mediocre job for 9 years then so be it. wilken hasn't done such an overwhelmingly great job that he can just quit in a huff and get a similar position with a good organization.
  25. ok well i moved lamb to my major league bench. i have extra room on my injured list now so i added travis hafner and put him on it.
