  1. who's the guy that was good but drank a lot? soda popinski? that's the cardinals.
  2. and if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle
  3. considering that he has 30 K's in 69 IP, i'd say that smoke and mirrors has a lot to do with his sub 4 ERA.
  4. i love that koyie hill has 5 errors, 2 passed balls and 12 SB/1 CS this year. it's like he's intent on proving that the reason he was ostensibly kept around (defense) was all a sham.
  5. never been to bww but there was a place called quaker steak that served nuclear wings or something like that. a friend of mine ordered six (you had to sign a waiver before ordering) and said he pretty much spent the next day on the toilet.
  6. when your stuff is as bad as doug davis' stuff is, you should really be able to throw the ball over the plate with a greater degree of regularity.
  7. yeah i'd have taken that one too (stanton/venters/singleton) too
  8. this crap wouldn't happen if they'd spend 2 to 4 hours before the game fielding ground balls.
  9. by bidding war i mean like 1 good prospect and a draft pick.
  10. maybe i should start a victor martinez thread to induce a bidding war
  11. most 22 year olds with nba talent are definitely not trying to lead their team to the final four.
  12. cough victor martinez cough cough
  13. When have you seen that story? The future, duh i was going to post a pic of the sports almanac from back to the future here, but it only goes through 2000 #-o
  14. nice to see rhee and simpson missing some bats... keep it up boys
  15. was at the perth airport and randomly saw a guy wearing a packers jersey. not surprisingly he was fat.
  16. But you cant deny that when these guys first come up, they give us a great month or 2 before pitchers learn how insanely full of holes their swings are. Because hoffpauir did that? Lahair played 45 game with Seattle and ops'ed a robust .661.
  17. maybe. malone is a huge anomaly in that he hadn't won a title at age 90 and was still productive. i mean, who were the good players taking less money to win championships the last couple of years? washed-up shaq? ron artest? and i maintain that there really isn't that much that can be done to improve a team that already has three primary scorers. if they want to get better it will be to sign a big man who can defend and rebound.
  18. why is miami going to get much better? lebron, wade and bosh are basically at the peak of their careers right now. the supporting cast blows, but unless they luck into some awesome late draft picks they're not going improve much. they don't have the cap room to go out and sign anyone really good; it'll just be the mike millers and mike bibbys of the world rotating through as their supporting cast. Under the current salary cap structure, I believe the Heat would get a Mid Level Exception that would allow them to go out and sign a quality big man, then continue to fill out the rest of their roster with Millers and Bibbys who want to take less money to play for a championship team. i don't see what quality big man is going to settle for the MLE. i guess they can get someone like shaq who is miles past his prime, it's not like they can just go out and grab a very good center with the MLE. plus i think the way they're set up now is fine... what's the point in adding another scoring option at center? you've already got three primary scorers plus complementary shooters in bibby/miller. all they really need from center is a guy who can defend and grab a few boards.

  20. rose is a young elite player; of course he can play at this level for another year. as for defense, it's thibodeau's calling card and the bulls have good defensive players, so why is that going to drop off?
  21. Wouldn't that same hard cap restrict the Bulls with Boozer, Noah, Deng, and a future big payday for Rose? Not if you can package Noah+Deng for Howard. The Bulls must pull off a trade of some sort because this formula is whack. the bulls just came one shot (or one good last-second play) from being tied in the series and holding home court advantage. why is this team such a disaster and needs to be reassembled? just get a pretty good shooting guard.
  22. also the 35 titles that the bulls won with jordan.
  23. well part of the problem is that they seem to seem to be drawing up a game plan where he's the second coming of jordan. or even lebron james. he's not... he's a point guard with a decent shot and great penetrating ability. he needs help more than those guys, through no fault of his own... you're just not likely to see a guy like derrick rose take over down the stretch. he's too short and has to expend too much energy running the show through four quarters.
