  1. so here's a question. how is fake shelby miller on the eyes of texas' roster when i traded for real (in the cbs database) shelby miller last year?
  2. yeah, almost done. will post the results shortly. clearly i am having a very busy day at work.
  3. no, his roster legitimately sucks ass. he basically has no good young exempt players, josh hamilton is his best offensive player and tim hudson his best pitcher. his prospects aren't very good either. i wasn't thrilled with my roster last year, but i was able to acquire halliday before the draft, had starlin castro, gaby sanchez, austin jackson and jaime garcia as exempt players, and had very good prospects like mike trout and julio teheran. i would assume that with that roster, it's going to be really hard to compete this year without hitting the lottery on a number of mid to late round picks. while i took some abuse for throwing in the towel in may, i was able to turn halladay into shelby miller, jacob turner, jason kipnis, a first round pick and a major league pitcher who turned into a joke (matusz). i added jake peavy via waivers and turned him into paul goldschmidt and a pick, dealt victor martinez for alex avila, john lamb (who blew out his elbow like 4 days later) and a pick, got a third round pick for mike napoli, got a fourth rounder for markakis and pavano, and a sixth rounder for ichiro. a lot of it is fairly minor, but someone like goldschmidt may be quite valuable if he can put up league-average 1B numbers... that's four years of solid production without having to use keeper points. same reason i wanted kipnis in the halladay deal. as for all the draft picks, guys like napoli, kimbrel, cj wilson, and howie kendrick went in that round. obviously there were some busts, but the point is that there can be good values available in the mid rounds, so if you can draft some players this year and spin them off for picks before the trade deadline, you can really make a stockpile of picks. at one stage i had two first rounders, two 3rds, two 4ths, two 6ths and two 7ths. those can be used to improve your team the next offseason, either by trading for established stars (i used a first and a second to acquire halladay and cliff lee) or just by advancing your draft position so that you end up with more 6th/7th round guys and fewer 10th/11th rounders. anyway, that's how i went about rebuilding. take it with a grain of salt since i finished last in 2011, but i think my team looks a lot more promising for this year.
  4. hate to be the bearer of bad news, but colby lewis isn't exempt... he's had 5 seasons in which he's pitched at least 15 games.
  5. didn't know this existed... i tried to view it with my gmail address and couldn't, so i sent you a request with that e-mail address. cheers!

  7. i'd put tim alderson on the trading block in hopes of generating a bidding war.
  8. quit your job, problem solved
  9. 10 days should be fine. i don't think anyone is talking about starting the draft before the first of march. as for chuck, i think it's pretty funny that he has such "prospects" as billy rowell and kim jin-yeong (apparently he's a cub prospect???)
  10. yeah definitely the extended draft. although i'm happy to start it whenever all the keepers are set, because the prospect draft will follow and that takes a while too.
  11. i love people like theo who just look down on everybody. you just know he's completely worthless in real life.
  12. agreed, i think an e-mail needs to go out. we've still got 5 or 6 people who submit their keeper lists before we can start to draft.
  13. i would think that reducing by four teams would be kind of a last resort, because our keeper rosters are kind of based on it being a 16 team league (i probably wouldn't keep gaby sanchez or brian matusz if it weren't such a large league), and it would put a lot more talent in the draft than normal. hopefully someone will pick up rob's team and the people who have been absent will get moving with some cajoling from tim and others.
  14. thanks. so it looks like these are the teams that haven't pared down rosters or posted their keepers on here: habitual linesteppers (juan) harry's budcrew (chuck) nc cubs (was rob - now needs new owner) sock it thome (karen) maybe tootielicious? (can't tell if he has too many major league keepers)
  15. it does look like a few teams (like alamo stealth and bazingas) have made their necessary roster adjustments but just haven't posted their keepers here yet. also, is the function to view last year's stats screwed up? when i click on year, 2011 it brings up some weird grid. the default is 3-year stats, which don't matter relative to keepers.
  16. i do agree that there needs to be some arm-twisting, though, considering how many people haven't pared down their rosters and submitted keeper lists. if tim isn't up to it due to work/nsbb/family duties then it would be best to have another commissioner or at least someone to help him bust chops.
  17. it's a joke if the cubs get in much trouble for this. players and draftees agree to pre-draft deals all the time. i suppose the difference is that those aren't widely reported.
  18. C Avila (exempt) 1B Gaby Sanchez (exempt) 3B Pablo Sandoval (398.0) SS Starlin Castro (exempt) OF Austin Jackson (exempt) SP Jaime Garcia (exempt) SP Roy Halladay (784.0) SP Clifton Lee (691.0) SP Brian Matusz (lol) Total: 1873.0
  19. i thought mariner's revenge said he'd take over rob's team. we should probably get some input from the non-active people as to whether they still want to participate. don said that he was in for this year; his wife said she'd make sure he'd have time to do the league.
  20. Damn, he's not very good at falling off the wagon. If you're going to booze it up and bang a random skank, you gotta make it somewhat worth while. Sounds like he was blitzed out of his mind (jamming to the karaoke) so he probably doesn't remember that 5 minute ride anyway. i'm not sure what is more depressing. that someone is so vulnerable to alcohol that when he relapses, he gets completely blitzed, forgets about his beautiful wife and kids and home and bangs some barfly in a bathroom, or that various people at the bar who were probably cognizant of his vulnerability, still enjoyed drinking/videotaping/having sex with him.
  21. hey at least they're not calling him the Yellow Melo
  22. It's way premature to start saying who the likely top available pitcher will be at the #6 pick. There is always a lot of movement in the amateur draft, especially when there isn't much top end talent, as seems to be the case in 2012. Danny Hultzen wasn't regarded as a guy who would go in the top half of last year's draft, and ended up going #2 overall in a loaded draft. Sonny Gray dropped from a likely top 5 pick to #18. Matt Purke fell to the 3rd round due to injury concerns. Daniel Norris and Jack Armstrong also fell a lot.
  23. that was my thought as well. if it's weighted evenly and let's say it's 4/$27.5, he'll be making about $7m in 2015 in what i think will be his age 22 season. even if you knock it down by 20%, he'd still have to be at least a decent major league ballplayer or very much on the cusp of becoming one to keep him in arbitration.
