  1. #cbssportsisreporting and #cbssportssays are trending on twitter. ah, twitter justice - harsh, swift, but fair.
  2. i think that joke was unfunny enough to only be posted once.
  3. by the way, just a bang-up job by the media on reporting paterno's death. a psu blog/news site (onward state) reported that paterno had died. cbssports.com, a national website that really should know better, went on this report and ran their own report that paterno had died (without saying where they got the information from.) a few other news sources did the same, mostly citing the cbssports.com report. then after the paterno camp reported that he was not dead, cbssports.com attributed the false report to onward state and reported that he was not dead. so they basically stole (false) reporting from a local source and then blamed the local source when the info turned out to be bogus. wonder if they have a job open for cubbie bum.
  4. you don't understand why people would mind that someone repeatedly mocks recently deceased individuals? that's pretty [expletive] dense. by the way, the poster in question has consistently been warned to knock it off and was banned over this issue, so apparently some (most?) of the moderators had a problem with it too.
  5. ah ok, got it now. so with strasburg it would have been a stupid move and you would've had to forfeit him. daisuke or kosuke or darvish, they're going to be starting with the big club so you pick them in the major league draft.
  6. no, your question was "really?" because you were insinuating that my explanation was not serious, and you were wrong. i accept your apology.
  7. really? hmmmmmmm let's see... anyone else find it amusing that this is manbearcub's first post in about a month, and his last post was a joke in the chris henry thread? i think that has become his sole mission on this board, to post something dickish when someone dies. seriously? you must not be familiar with manbearcub, he makes an a-hole post in pretty much every death thread. it might be a blessing in diguise because i heard that in his final days he was dribbling all over himself (a) this isn't even funny (b) why, when someone dies, is there a race to see who can make an offensive comment? congrats manbearcub, you beat everyone to the douchebag finish line! so yes, considering that i've posted three times in the past about manbearcub's callous comments following someone's death, i'd say that my problem was with him and not with him saying something about joe paterno's death.
  8. right, but is there an official rule? tsuyoshi nishioka was drafted in the prospect draft last year and he wasn't expected to see any time in the minors. this was also written in the 2010 prospect draft thread: so it sounds to me like in the past, any player who was minor league eligible and owned by a major league organization could be drafted by a major league team. i think it should probably stay that way, and new international signees should be minor league draft eligible only, because how do you differentiate between someone like cespedes and strasburg? obviously strasburg would have gone in the major league portion of the draft if someone were allowed to take him.
  9. try to keep up
  10. it's not so much about joe paterno than it is manbearcub repeatedly mocking people who die.
  11. Let's hope you have a tasteless joke cued up like you had so many times before being banned.
  12. question about the drafting of older foreign players coming over (darvish, leonys martin, cespedes) - are these guys eligible for the major league portion of the draft or are they only to be drafted in the prospect draft? i assume that the rules are the same for all of these guys.
  13. i just don't see the point of getting porcello. he's already at $3.1m in arbitration and has pitched three full years in the bigs. assuming that he doesn't wake up tomorrow and start striking people out, it would be a progression to being a 7-9K/9 IP guy. and by the point he's there, he's already where garza is right now in terms of salary and service time. and that, to me, is best case scenario - garza's average fastball is 3 to 4 mph faster than porcello's and his breaking ball is sharper. it's quite easy to see porcello just staying as a #4-type pitcher where he's a non tender candidate in his late arbitration years.
  14. well that's certainly a dumb statement.
  15. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/red-sox-need-outfield-help/ basically says that the red sox need outfielders (they definitely do) and marlon byrd would be a good fit there.
  16. the K rate hovering around 5 per 9 innings pitched throughout his entire major league career, which isn't far from his minor league K rate. #2 starters on good teams need to miss bats, and porcello hasn't shown that ability at all.
  17. it's way too early to say, especially with the high school guys. some guys start out as top 10 picks and then fall because they have a lousy senior year or get hurt, and others who are barely on the radar come out throwing low to mid 90s and suddenly they're first round options.
  18. I guess rizzo is either starting the year with Chicago or is run of the mill junk.
  19. bump
  20. this is possibly the least funny joke you have ever made.
  21. it's like wsr forgets every offseason that all AAA teams have several late 20s to mid 30s injury replacements and career minor leaguers.
  22. nobody counts casey coleman as a big league starter, not even casey coleman.
  23. turns out that montero's real name is fausto carmona and he's 28 years old.
