  1. Cubs or MLB? mlb. said he probably would have gone behind harper, taillon and machado in the 2010 draft, and compared him to bubba starling from the 2011 draft.
  2. hopefully he'll be ready to join the big club whenever soriano is traded/released or his contract expires. the kapman will need a new whipping boy.
  3. i kind of take those rankings with a grain of salt. he's only been seen in a handful of games. i take it that the cubs have scouted him well enough to be comfortable dumping a bunch of money in his lap.
  4. Unless there is a clause in the contract that says he will (like the one Cespedes got) than no. It will be like what is happening to Samardzija now. If he doesn't have enough service time for arbitration (which seems likely), then the Cubs will be able to cut his last years salary by the full 20% if they want to, or they can choose to non-tender him at that point. thanks. i can't imagine that the cubs would give him a clause like that considering that he'll be in the minors for at least a year, probably two years of the deal. it's a risk and may not be an efficient use of resources, but they're not using them for anything else and the cubs very much need a high-ceiling offensive prospect. plus with the new rules, overpaying became inevitable.
  5. Ugh. I swear, it's like Soriano has left Cubs fans with PTSD. The 2010 Cubs were the result of poor team construction from the top to the bottom. Blaming it on "bad big contracts" or whatever the [expletive] is a stretch to say the least. All I was alluding to is that it's hard to compete when players like Soriano and Zambrano make up roughly 25% of your payroll, and it's been that way for several years. It puts you in an unnecessary hole that's difficult to get out of. cespedes is getting $9m a year. that's like 6% of the cubs' payroll. it sucks if he ends up being a complete bust, but it's nowhere close to crippling.
  6. pardon my ignorance, but say it's a 4 year major league deal. he doesn't become a free agent after those four years, does he?
  7. what'd it take, like 6 posts for this to turn from a discussion about what players would make up the 25 man roster to a pissing match about who said something wrong last offseason? fantastic.
  8. i'm waiting to hear it from scott swaim before i get excited.
  9. lol, 18 to 24 members. are you really in the same conference as someone you play every 3 years? penn state plays temple at least that often; maybe that makes temple sort of part of the big ten.
  10. it's like the marlins are actively trying to distract people from the fact that there's a baseball game going on. i'm just waiting for them to announce that they'll have a singles bar beyond the rightfield fence and a drag show beyond the leftfield fence.
  11. If he lets himself go after retiring he'll be a dead ringer for louis ck.
  12. what does jason whitlock know about penis size, he probably hasn't seen his own in 20 years.
  13. i sent $20 to brian last year so i wouldn't have to deal with paying from australia two years in a row... think you'll need to get the money from him (easiest way would just be for him to send it along with his own payment)
  14. thanks. as usual, your opinion means the world to me. do the opinions of people on this board matter to you? because you've compared my using a curse word that you hear in tons of movies, songs and walking down the street just about every day (and which is filtered into [expletive] on this site), with someone who repeatedly mocks the recently deceased. i can only assume that you didn't earn your law degree by being an abject moron, so i'll chalk this up to intellectual dishonesty.
  15. bzzzzzzzt try again
  16. i was expecting that to be the video of him running off the field before he [expletive] himself.
  17. dingus belongs to treymon, plagiarist.
  18. Yes, it is too bad. He had a terrible lapse in judgment. Doesn't mean anyone should be happy he's dead. Never said I was happy he's dead. The thing that bugs me now is how everyone is canonizing St. JoePa as the greatest man who ever lived. [citation missing]
  19. lol http://bostinno.com/wp-content/uploads//2012/01/crabs.png
  20. guess you got your wish.
  21. so just Rest? ok?
  22. this has to be a joke. whatever, keep at it. bang up job of moderating the board, as usual.
  23. i objected when he made fun of chris henry's death, and i didn't give a crap about chris henry. most human beings find it offensive to ridicule a recently deceased person, and it's embarrassing that you either don't understand this or, more likely, are too stubborn to admit that you know this to be the case.
  24. yeah the paterno family announced it.
  25. people here had high hopes for tomic. aussies are the biggest homers ever, in pretty much every sport. they had high hopes for sam stosur (who did win the us open last year) but she [expletive] the bed in the first round.
