  1. i made the pick for you
  2. Perhaps Theo didn't like the idea of hiring a Cub icon as it might compromise his ability to exert his influence. Perhaps he just felt that Sandberg wasn't very bright, or wasn't great manager material. Perhaps he didn't like other aspects of Sandberg besides his views on fundamentals and bunting- ideas that were strongly criticized by many people here. That's all I meant. What's so hard to understand about that? And maybe Theo didn't want to share the spotlight. yeah that's probably it, not that sandberg's baseball ideas are just about a polar opposite from epstein's.
  3. Teddy Ballgame's autograph on the back of my grandfather's business card.
  4. wow, 12 picks today... i might get to draft twice tomorrow! btw please leave me some good (or not terrible) players.
  5. only 70% of readers voted the home run monstrosity as "horrible," with another 15% going for "slightly less than horrible." but hey, that leaves 15% who think it's great or not bad!
  6. he's definitely the best 25 or under. i guess bryce harper and mike trout could end up being better, though who knows if harper can stay in CF and trout probably won't play CF either, as long as bourjos is playing gold glove defense for the angels.
  7. oh, how many people in the league? if it's like 8 people, your 8 keepers are probably going to be too good to justify keeping around trout or harper. if it's 12 or 16, your roster will be more watered down then it will be easier to keep a top prospect like that. matt moore and strasburg should go very high. but even someone like halladay still has a few good years left and will be quite valuable.
  8. probably more accurate to say that rhee got rocked and beliveau couldn't throw the ball over the plate.
  9. he took a cardinal (boooooooo)
  10. need more information, like how many keepers you get, if there's a cap on points you can keep, or if it's one of those leagues where if you keep your first round pick you forfeit next year's first round pick, etc.
  11. i have found (from following along on gameday) that he is a lot whiter than i had imagined.
  12. dammit, awful outing from beliveau.
  13. julio teheran (probably top pitching prospect in baseball after matt moore and, if you consider him a prospect, yu darvish) gave up 6 home runs in 2 innings today. ouch.
  14. what fun is baseball if you can't watch pitchers bunting the ball into their own face? just say no to DH.
  15. someone please select ben zobrist for me when it is my turn in 20 picks. i assume the rest of you will respect my choice and not select him yourselves.
  16. i'd like to make this Exhibit A on why star middle-of-the-order hitters who never bunt in real life should not practice bunting every day.
  17. the cubs should have him throw out the first pitch at some game where the brewers are visiting. that would be some top notch trolling.
  18. i'd say it's a combination of things - maybe more elite players got hurt last year? wainwright is basically a free keeper, hanley ramirez sucked and was hurt, morneau was hurt, josh johnson, etc. offense was down. and i think teams in the league, like yourself and raw, did a good job of acquiring good exempt players from good teams rather than letting them reach the draft. i don't think the 2000 point cap is keeping teams from amassing too much talent; the talent is just being spread out via trades rather than the draft. my team was God-awful last year but i acquired halladay and cliff lee in the offseason. raw's team sucked but i think his keepers (adrian gonzalez, d. espinoza, tulo, freese, CarGo, greinke, wainwright, strasburg, hellickson, britton) rank up there with anybody's. if lousy teams with active owners can't improve over the space of a year or two, then i'd say yes, change the keeper cap, but otherwise just leave it as is.
  19. i'm curious if anyone would have taken someone other than darvish with the first pick? i doubt that he'll be the highest point-scorer this year of all the players available, but given that i can have him for free through 2015, it seemed like a no-brainer to me.
  20. ok thanks karen... can you offer rodelo a trade of your 8th round pick for nothing? i can't move draft picks around now that the draft has started. you should be able to trade the pick though.
  21. i don't have any picks until the start of the third round, so if you guys could leave me some good players, that would be great. i think my pitching will be very good with halladay, clifton lee, jaime garcia and darvish. hopefully that can offset the fact that my best offensive player is starlin castro or pablo sandoval.
  22. ok i picked. does it notify the next person up by e-mail?
