  1. it's not like the second one would make people go slower in the major league draft. also, isn't shane getting married in a few days? i don't know if he's going on honeymoon right after but at least for a few days he's presumably not going to be participating (unless he wants it to be a very short marriage haha)
  2. we should probably make this similar to the IFA rule - if you draft a minor leaguer who hasn't appeared in the majors (or just appeared for a pointless call up in september) then you have to keep him on your major league roster for the whole year. otherwise, i'll be blowing all my late picks on minor leaguers and the prospect draft will be nothing but 2011 rule 4 draftees getting selected.
  3. we're about 2 strong games from WSR touting him as the next bryan lahair.
  4. Shooting at a better percentage than DRose yeah 45% for a guard is fine. the bigger problems with his game are turning the ball over 5.5 times per game started, and inability to play defense.
  5. What's up with Greathouse? He's been saying on twitter to teammates that they likely won't see him soon/at all in Az. I know he just had a kid, and could be staying behind a few weeks for that. It just seems weird. i believe he is suffering from inability to throw the ball over the plate.
  6. yeah i'm fine with starting whenever. opening day is march 28 - mariners and a's play in oakland. so we've got about 2.5 weeks to go.
  7. i like 7-team trade b2b more than over-the-top negative b2b.
  8. tim, he had the last pick in the first round of the prospect draft, so an easy fix would be for you to get the first pick in the second round (just dropping one slot from the trade you made).
  9. that's going to be a problem.
  10. being pretty generous using the term "great" to describe latos and porcello, tim.
  11. i guess it just depends on whether he is a franchise QB. if he is, that's worth paying a really heavy price. but he has to be great to make this trade worth it.
  12. no. also, the reds acquried mat latos and their rotation doesnt suck. the brewers replaced casey mcgehee and yuniesky betancourt, who might have been worse than replacement level last year, with aramis ramirez and alex gonzalez. if gamel is decent at 1b, they really shouldn't lose that much offensively.
  13. the book is out on roy halladay. eric patterson hit 2 home runs off him in spring training action today.
  14. I think there is a very real possibility that the area surrounding Wrigley doesn't survive the celebration. come on. it would be really joyous with very little rioting. see: red sox, 2004.
  15. matt garza has a sister in second grade???
  16. Not saying Dale Murphy should get in because I don't think he should. I don't think he had the longevity that most voters want. He did have a hell of a peak though. Murphy had a six year peak where he averaged .289/.382/.531/.913, 145 OPS+, 36 HR, 105 RBI, 110 runs, 18 SB, and won 5 gold gloves. My guess is that in 1984ish Future Hall of Famer was often used when talking about Dale Murphy. If I remember correctly he went from really great to really bad in 2 seasons. As for the trivia I know the player who played for the winning Pirates and one of the overall #1s who didn't make it to the majors. I looked it up and would have never gotten the other guy yeah i don't think anyone who isn't 80 years old with an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball history would get that one. matt bush may actually avoid becoming #3 on that list - he had a solid year in relief with the rays, struck out a lot of batters and was added to their 40 man roster. he's very unlikely to be a star, but there's a decent chance that he gets a cup of coffee.
  17. loria and samson should be obama's poster children for the 1%. nobody likes these guys... what a couple of ass holes.
  18. someone said they e-mailed her. i assume that if e-mail didn't do the trick then PM wouldn't either (plus she should have been e-mailed when it was her turn to select)
  19. someone has proposed setting up a draft clock so that if someone is out for, say, 24 hours, then they will receive an autodraft pick. this would encourage people who aren't online as much or are traveling and can't make their pick to use the queue and put on autopilot. thoughts?
  20. david samson, left, and jeffrey loria discuss the upcoming season at a recent press conference: http://images2.fanpop.com/image/photos/12000000/Grima-and-Saruman-grima-wormtongue-12051192-800-537.jpg
  21. yeah because an unpopular cub fan who has basically avoided the media spotlight for 9 years is going to come out of hiding just to stick it to the team he supports. good call.
  22. some marlins fans turning up for opening day in their totally non-tacky ballpark... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d7/The_Fabulous_Wonder_Twins_%26_Robin_Williams_on_The_Birdcage.gif
  23. i would like to upgrade at 1b and OF and pick up another starting pitcher, if anyone wants to deal.
