i prefer to have it when it is now - that way you've got all the prospect lists published, some prospects have been dealt during the offseason, other guys have gotten hurt between the signing period and end of the year, plus there are some international free agents who are signed during the offseason. maybe we could just start it around the start of spring training? as it is we weren't too far off from finishing by the start of the regular season... just the weird start in japan held us back. and we should probably have and enforce a 24 hour rule (for both the major league and minor league drafts) so that if you don't pick in 24 hours, you're either skipped or you autodraft. if you know you're going to be away for a period of more than 24 hours when the minor league draft is running, just PM a list of prospects to someone who doesn't have a pick before your turn and they can make the pick for you. side note, someone raised the idea of an online draft for the major league phase, and i would definitely oppose that. there's about a 0% chance of getting all 16 owners present for all or most of the time it would take to do 10 or more rounds. if we start the offline draft about a month before the start of the regular season and set a 24 hour clock, we'll definitely be done before the regular season starts, and probably with at least a week to spare.
