  2. yeah sure, i'll take floyd. i don't think whoever picked last PM'ed me... didn't get anything from dew until a few hours ago.
  3. that is the no brainer of the century, of course you do that.
  4. no, i think we are just making it a free for all (or hopefully a waiver claim system) after 3 rounds... nobody seems to want to go on any longer, and too many people are not checking in to pass on their pick.
  5. jamie moyer, who signed a minor league contract with the rockies, has made their starting rotation. awesome. fun fact of the day, fred was only 75 years old when jamie moyer was born.
  6. I am OK with everything you said, but... the prospect draft should start after BA's list comes out. I would hate to see the first few drafters not have the list and the rest have the advantage of having it. I believe the subscribers get the list early. I would hate to see them having an advantage over everyone who is not a subscriber. BA is not the only authority on prospects. True. But it is near the top and when I follow the prospect draft and the order of BA's list there is a very high degree of correlation. yeah, and most widely respected prospect lists come out during the offseason, usually after the new year. side note, BP did a really handy Excel compilation of the top 100 prospect lists from 14 different sources: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=16294
  7. ok i can do that. so how are rosters policed then, we just do it ourselves? i'm not sure how to change the settings to prevent people from having an 8 person bench.
  8. i think we can set it so that every player who isn't owned goes on waivers for a period of time, so if people want prospects who weren't drafted they can put in a waiver claim. right now it's set so that people can just add/drop anytime. we'd have to change it, at least temporarily, to a waiver system.
  9. i prefer to have it when it is now - that way you've got all the prospect lists published, some prospects have been dealt during the offseason, other guys have gotten hurt between the signing period and end of the year, plus there are some international free agents who are signed during the offseason. maybe we could just start it around the start of spring training? as it is we weren't too far off from finishing by the start of the regular season... just the weird start in japan held us back. and we should probably have and enforce a 24 hour rule (for both the major league and minor league drafts) so that if you don't pick in 24 hours, you're either skipped or you autodraft. if you know you're going to be away for a period of more than 24 hours when the minor league draft is running, just PM a list of prospects to someone who doesn't have a pick before your turn and they can make the pick for you. side note, someone raised the idea of an online draft for the major league phase, and i would definitely oppose that. there's about a 0% chance of getting all 16 owners present for all or most of the time it would take to do 10 or more rounds. if we start the offline draft about a month before the start of the regular season and set a 24 hour clock, we'll definitely be done before the regular season starts, and probably with at least a week to spare.
  10. A: Jose Bautista B: Giancarlo Stanton, Jay Bruce C: Logan Morrison, Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher D: Adam Dunn, Jason Heyward, Ryan Zimmerman, Andre Ethier, Hanley Ramirez WC: Will be PM'ed
  11. samardzija could actually add some value on top of his pitching by being a good hitter. he won't be micah owings but he did show some ability at the plate while in the minors and has a major league home run as well.
  12. also, how does 4 starts sound for week 1? aside from this mariners/a's series and then marlins opening day, featuring the world's most expensive lawn ornament, there are 4 days of games in week 1. we do 7 starters for most weeks, so a max of 4 starters in week 1 would seem to make sense.
  13. ok looks like that works (i moved one of my minor league players to the majors and it gave me the red error message about having too many reserves). also posted on the message board about legal rosters; hopefully most people have it set up so that they receive an e-mail when a message is posted. between that and this forum there's really no excuse to not update teams.
  14. Someone with Commish powers need to change the roster limits back so that teams can tell they are illegal. Right now it shows every team is legal. Either that or guys forgot today was "soft" opening day. :-k i don't know how to do that, but i did change the rules so that rosters which don't adhere to the roster limits will score zero points. hopefully that will raise the red flag when you're on the roster page. i'll also send out a note to the league saying that rosters need to be made legal.
  15. wait i still have the pick that was skipped, has anyone taken kolten wong yet
  16. he's awesome. and even though i hate the penguins, hockey is better for having players like him on the ice. (side note though, these weren't consecutive shifts... first one was midway through the second period and second one - the goal - was in the third period) anyway, zidlicky (defender who gets abused twice) is [expletive] terrible. so comical that lamoriello gave up anything of value to take on zidlicky's piss poor defense and lousy contract.
  17. keith law is such a badass that he knows price will have ankieled and be playing cf by then, and almost as valuable as no. 3 superstar matt wieters. hey according to fangraphs wieters was a 5 win player last year. i've been heavily on the wieters bandwagon but i certainly wouldn't rank him #3. that being said, i sure as hell would rather have drafted him than josh vitters.
  18. well technically i should get to pick now (after jeff) since everyone else who botched a pick was afforded the opportunity to do it over, but i don't really want anyone and nobody has offered to trade with me, so i'll just pass. in the future, i think this should be the rule (since it's easy to miss that a player is already owned or has been drafted earlier) - if someone is aware of the mistake then stop the draft right after that pick and notify the owner who was wrong; if the next person or people go without anyone realizing the mistake, then the person who screwed up gets to go but can't have the player or players picked after their mistake.
  19. it's somewhat defensible if you assume that catchers develop late. wieters made some big breakthroughs last year... reduced his K rate and beefed up his power, and still plays really good defense at a premium position. that being said, i wouldn't make a future top 10 without matt moore's name on it, and he's probably writing off too many guys who are good right now. clayton kershaw is 24 years old FFS.
  20. oh, i didn't see your post above mine. yeah that shouldn't be allowed. i think my pick should just work as a pass since you didn't catch my mistake before drafting.
  21. wtf? why, due to my mistake, does he know that the guy he wants won't be there? i overlooked that wieland was already owned. it's still my pick. that's how it has been done the rest of the draft.
  22. yeah just do that; didn't see wieland on anyone's team for some reason. you can go ahead... just don't make the wong decision (wahh wahhhhh)
  23. i dunno jeff, that doesn't sound like much fun.
