  1. soriano should really be a platoon player at this stage, which is pretty depressing given his contract.
  2. david freese already has 11 rbi? [expletive] off.
  3. i liked soto better when he was good at baseball.
  4. as long as you don't look at the bottom of the lineup anyway.
  5. To what end? I'm glad LaHair is off to a good start, but even with a full season of strong offensive numbers, I can't be sold on him as a fixture at 1B. After that you're looking at more than a season and LaHair is about to turn 32 and on the decline. That's my biggest problem, is that there isn't much payoff to gambling(as much as you can call it a gamble with no other options) on LaHair. he turns 32 after the 2015 season.
  6. cards' team babip was a ridiculous .352 coming into this game; only getting better.
  7. i can never find a good recipe for club sauce.
  8. haha it's always old people that are like that. i went to an orioles game and some old lady just loved (starting pitcher) jason johnson. he wasn't even good! (but was probably the ace of those awful pitching staffs)
  9. it was definitely in the 1980s and definitely at veteran's stadium ( :x ), wouldn't have a clue beyond that. this was definitely my first cubs game attended at wrigley. the next game (also against the padres) was more notable; jon lieber pitched well but it was his last game before tommy john surgery (i wouldn't say he blew it out during this game - his elbow was pretty fucked for most of the year and he finally couldn't go any more), the cubs imploded in the top of the 8th and went down 4 runs, then scored 5 runs in the last 2 innings to win (with crappy alex gonzalez hitting a game-winning 2 run, 2 out double off trevor hoffman)
  10. dylan bundy's first start in low a: 9 batters faced, 9 batters retired, 6 strikeouts. dylan bundy's second start in low a: 9 batters faced, 9 batters retired, 6 strikeouts. season line: 6 ip, 0 h, 0 r, 0 bb, 12 k. something tells me he's not long for the south atlantic league.
  11. beef welington is a triple short of the cycle. granted, an outfielder would probably have to pass out for him to get a triple, but it's still possible.
  12. that's a good point... hadn't thought of it that way.
  13. if we were going to consider changing the scoring, i'd petition that pitchers be awarded points less generously. jaime garcia's line today was: 4.2 INN, 11 HA, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. that is a bad outing, but he got 5.5 points. right now each out is awarded 1.5 points... maybe reduce it to 1 point? could bring pitching scores more in line with hitting scores.
  14. so what if vitters is a guy who makes lots of contact but doesn't hit for much power, what can we hope he turns into? jeff cirillo with fewer walks? placido polanco without the defense?
  15. eagles take ronnell lewis, lb from nebraska
  16. i have gotten it in the past, but the cubs suck, so i am holding off this year.
  17. hey, lahair is a better pick than trout or pierzynski.
  18. trevor bauer's line from tonight: 5.2 ip, 2 h, 0 r, 4 bb, 11 k. for the year: 10.2 ip, 5 h, 0 r, 7 bb, 18 k. command needs some work, but he's going to be fun to watch.
  19. braun is just a beast against lhp. career line of .338/.409/.628/1.037
  20. yeah pitchers start once or twice a week, and theoretically amass a lot of points when they do start (exception: yu darvish), so you need to shuffle them in and out. i'm happy leaving the rules so that we set non-SP positions at the beginning of the week and leave it like that. no need to reward people who swap in a reserve outfielder because another one of their outfielder's games got rained out.
  21. i think aramis just did that for the dave kaplans of the world who complain that he's lazy.
  22. yeah i don't think all of a sudden we become a daily change league just because that possibility is being discussed here.
  23. Ahhh so it's like the Masters where the previous winner has to be the one to award it? theo is the gm, every prospect and trade is awesome now.
