  2. Don't make me put the dumpster image in this thread!
  3. I don't see the problem with this thread. If you're going to have threads about how badly Pierre and Jones suck, then why not a thread about how bad Cedeno and Murton have been? Yeah, they have low salaries, but the Cubs offense is depending on them just as much as it depends on Pierre or Jones. The whole team sucks, start threads on how much every player sucks.
  4. Could shower or storm tomorrow, and could shower on Thursday. Likely not enough for a rain out, though. So, it looks like ARam's improvement is the only good news. And, I suppose, nobody has died yet.
  5. You mean that he should be more "positive" regarding his coverage of the Cubs? The same BS that the Cubs management tried to persuade Paul Sullivan with? The Cubs should replace Paul Sullivan with this guy: http://dunamai.com/Humor/BagdadBob/images/bagdad_bob_large.gif "Have no fear, my friends! The Cubs are just lulling the opposition into a false sense of security! Things will all get better! Dusty Baker and Jim Hendry are the right people to lead this team!"
  6. I hope that Gene Stocker and Edgar Snyder get some ad space!
  7. Why does it matter? Either way, the Cubs suck.
  8. Wow, Matt Morris has been bad this season? Who didn't see that one coming?
  9. I'm a lot closer than the Cubs right now!
  10. I wouldn't say plate discipline is his major problem right now. The K's are a bit high, but his OBP is 100 points higher than his AVG (244/344). 54 strikeouts in 42 games is more than a bit high. His numbers are actually similar to the ones that Dallas McPherson had in the minors. He walked at a pretty good rate, but also struck out way too much. So far, McPherson has been a dud in the bigs, despite showing a good walk rate in the minors. Big league pitchers can take advantage of the inability to make contact in a way that minor league pitchers cannot.
  11. Any thoughts on Dusty re-signing? I've always been of the opinion that Hendry was looking for the right time to extend Dusty. As of now, I don't know when that time would come. See, this is embarrassing. Rather than take the extra few weeks that the Cubs have been playing like crap as a hint to reevaluate the team and the possibility of signing Baker, Hendry just puts it off until the Cubs string together a few good games. Then, he can give Baker his extension and blame the losses on injuries. This is why I say they won't get it until people stop going to games. The problems are the same every year, and instead of changing the two most important positions within the organization - GM and manager - they give out extensions. If I did my job as poorly as Hendry and Baker have done their jobs, I'd be scanning the classified section right now. There's no punishment for failure within this organization, and no accountability. The whole thing is one sad joke.
  12. What's weird is that Casey Kotchman has always raked and shown great discipline (more BB than K) at the minor league level, but his performance this year has been nothing short of horrid. I guess he's been suffering from some sort of virus, but I also wonder if he's struggling with the big club's emphasis on being a hacker at the plate.
  13. Everyone in Chicago and the surrounding area can send the message they want... just stop going to Cubs games. It's obvious that they aren't going to get the point any other way.
  14. Given the Big Hurt's numbers this year, White Sox fans should be applauding the fact that he left.
  15. To be fair, he's just swinging at batting practice fastballs. Bob Hamelin used to look amazing doing that, too. And, if I remember correctly, the Cubs became infatuated with Ryan Harvey after he put on a display for them during batting practice. But, I do like to see that the kid has a very good eye at the plate for a high school player. He'll likely do well with whatever team drafts him, after the Cubs draft some fast guy with a rocket arm who has no clue what to swing at or what not to swing at.
  16. But, I think with the Cubs it's a combination of the coaches not emphasizing plate discipline, and going after players who don't have it. Bringing in guys like Juan Pierre and Jacque Jones is a signal that the Cubs just don't place any sort of emphasis on OBP in free agency or in the draft. Many of the top prospects in the organization, from Pie to Harvey to Dopirak, have very questionable plate discipline. You very rarely see the teams that emphasize OBP draft a player who doesn't have at least average discipline. Of course, it would help if Pie, Harvey, Dopirak, etc, received the proper coaching once they came into the organization. But, I think that there are some guys who just don't have the instincts or whatever you want to call it, to draw walks and lay off bad pitches. The more you draft players with raw tools and an unrefined chance at the plate, the more player in your system you'll end up with who have no clue how to work the pitcher or lay off curveballs in the durt.
  17. I don't follow. He's probably confusing the up-coming draft (based on last year's record) with next year's draft (based on this year's record). Yes, I'm probably an idiot :x So, who are we getting next year?
  18. Good thing we'll be picking waaaaaaay higher than 13
  19. I had some big games over the weekend and am up to 133. I want that bat!
  20. maybe it took him so long because his shipment of HGH was late
  21. reason #125908 why Dusty sucks
  22. Teixeira is killing a lot of people's teams... dunno what happened to his power this year.
