  1. The Sox will be lucky if his confidence isn't broken by this incident, if they even give him another chance since his manager hates him. Wouldn't surprise me if he just went from "Sox prospect" to "trade bait" last night.
  2. That's fine, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the actions of the White Sox manager, not the Rangers' pitcher. The Rangers pitcher hitting Pierzynski twice doesn't give any justification for berating your own players.
  3. Yeah I guess it's old school to act like a complete jerk and shatter the confidence of a rookie.
  4. Yesterday, the Rangers hit A.J. Pierzynski twice (good riddance). The White Sox sent out a rookie pitcher named Sean Tracey to pitch the next half inning... his third big league outing. He throws the first two pitches fairly far inside, but not inside enough to hit Hank Blalock. He then retired Blalock on a ground out. Cameras caught Guillen flipping out in the dugout, slamming a water bottle to the ground. He then came out and removed Tracey from the 6-0 game. Once Tracey was back in the dugout, Guillen screamed at him while Tracey sat pitifully on the bench. The White Sox sent Tracey down after the game. Guillen should be suspended for this - after all, why do you remove a guy from a game and scream at him after he gets an out in a game you're down 6 runs? It's pretty obvious he wanted the kid to bean Blalock. But, you do this to a guy in his third outing, and then embarrass him and shake his confidence in front of the entire team and everyone watching on TV? What a prick.
  5. From what I've read, MLB can pressure the Cubs but can't block it completely. Yep, MLB can make their feelings on the matter clear, but that's all they can do. Both EPatt and Grant Johnson were signed to contracts well above slot money, for example. It's one thing to offer an 8th round pick like E-Patt 3rd round money... it's another to offer a 5th round pick more money than any other player in the draft.
  6. I like Adam Dunn as much as the next guy, but aren't there other good young players who are much more worthy of having a chubb over? Like Hafner or Bay or Cabrera?
  7. Bump because Colon is ready to come back to the big club, and Weaver just won his fourth game tonight. His numbers right now stand at: 26 1/3 IP, 16 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 22 K, 1.37 ERA (4-0) I'm not sure how they can send him down. He's been lights out, and the Angels are less than 5 games out of first place in their division.
  8. Actually, they probably could have. 2002: 193.2 IP 2003: 173.1 IP 2004: 174.0 IP (but included some relief pitching for St Louis) That's another reason the Cards shouldn't have traded him. He has been extremely durable since being drafted, and as Cub fans who have watched Wood and Prior spend so much time out of the rotation, we understand how important it is to have a solid pitcher who's ready to go every time his turn comes around.
  9. Yeah, hopefully I win the lottery tomorrow too.
  10. Swisher and Gomes heard that I was getting pressure for the lead, so they both homered today.
  11. Haren is better than Mulder, isn't that all you need to say about this deal?
  12. Funny how the part about him being a cheaper sign wasn't mentioned.
  13. Jeff Nelson? It looked like he used the McDonald's drive-thru more than he used roids.
  14. He doesn't seem to be much of a patient guy. And he doesn't have a strong track record of performance. He was also rated much, much, much lower than where he was selected. Wouldn't you expect a football fan to question his team if they drafted a guy in the first round who everybody else had listed as a 3rd or 4th rounder? I don't think he's worth getting excited about. Maybe in a few years he'll be a halfway decent baseball player, but that's not exactly exciting. I'm reserving judgement at this time. Wilken's record in Toronto was stellar...16 of his 17 first round picks either are or were quality every day players in the majors. I'm real interested to see the direction our system moves in over the next couple of years. Just because you're not projected high doesn't mean squat in baseball. Look where Pujols was drafted... I'm not passing final judgement either. I was responding to another in a long line of criticism of fans for criticizing the Cubs. The guy could be a decent major leaguer some day. The odds of him being great are extremely small, and there's no one thing about him to really create a bunch of excitement. On what evidence do you base this statement? Isn't a little early to tell what the odds are? The odds of any given player being great, with the possible exception of the #1 or #2 overall pick, are extremely small. A significant percentage of first round draft picks don't even reach the majors.
  15. Hey, the Cubs had some other drafts that were graded very highly but produced crap for the big squad... so you never know, this draft that seems pretty lousy could turn out to be really good. But probably not. It's the Cubs.
  16. I'm sure the Cubs will be able to break him of this bad habit he's picked up over the past year.
  17. Patterson isn't playing for WTenn tonight; i.e., the game is boring.
  18. Indeed, I believe his brother has something to do with pharmaceutics and may have been involved with supplying the "goods" to him. They are both in deep doo-doo His brother will lose whatever license or job he has... aside from that, they may get off light since apparently Jason has been squealing like a mouse.
  19. I gave him an 8. If he puts up these numbers during his three years (:pukel:) with the Cubs, it will have been a great signing by Hendry. That being said, I'd be absolutely shocked if he doesn't return to his career norm.
  20. I don't think it has anything to do with the media. I think it's more an issue of not wanting to be around other baseball players. Remember, he just gave a bunch of names of users to the feds - some of which may be current teammates. Even if he didn't name any teammates, I would imagine there are probably some guys who'd be pissed that he ratted on fellow players. I'd imagine that getting caught with HGH is an offense that could get him sent to jail, and his options were prison, or cooperate and tell what he knows.
  21. Career (may be incomplete) $9,848,000 I'd say they got the job done. If you look at his career stats, it wouldn't be surprising if he started using them in 1998. For most of his major league career from 1989-1996 he was a bum, and had an ERA over 6.00 each of his last two years with Cleveland. Then in pitched in the minors in 1997, getting released by one team and putting up an ERA around 6.00 for the year. Then in 1998, he pitched for AAA Buffalo and had an ERA under 4.00. From 1999-2005 he was in the big leagues, and his ERA+ was average to above-average for 6 of those 7 years (only 2005 was a very bad year). So I guess if he started using in the late '90s, then they really did work.
  22. Nice offense losers... shut down by some pitcher I've never heard of. Fantastic. http://www.madorangefools.com/Images/2005/06_2005/IMG_0315.jpg
  23. If he used roids, they sure didn't work. He sucked.
