  1. I'm all for a best comedies tourney. Mel Brooks had better be well-represented (History of the World, Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs). The Monty Python franchise as well.
  2. My blood is already boiling. If this crap baseball team wins a World Series, I might explode.
  3. No but you have to look at the intangibles. Suzy Kolber certainly would, especially for her fantasy draft!
  4. T.O. and Willie Parker should never be benched, unless they're not healthy.
  5. Not surprising... it's hard to carry a guy for an entire year on the hopes that he'll be back for the playoffs, when he might not be in top form even if he does make it back.
  6. ATS picks: Kansas City +5 Green Bay +5 Jets -3.5 Pittsburgh -2.5 Philadelphia -5 New England -5.5 Houston +9.5 Carolina +3 Denver -4.5 Arizona -3 Seattle -6.5 Indy -9 NY Giants +3.5
  7. There's no way in hell that Pawelek would be better than Gallagher or Veal next year. Also, Murton's mean numbers seem a little thin to me... good OBP but I think the power will be there a little more, and I think he'll score more runs than that.
  8. Darn, 5 points away from first! I would've chosen the same thing. As much as Dusty Baker sucked, I think it would be cool to have the manager's copy of the batting order. I liked the Derrek Lee and Andre Dawson autographed cards, but I already have a ton of baseball cards. Also, I'd have picked the jersey if I had boobs... but I don't. So, the Dusty batting order it is!
  9. Going back to my question earlier in the thread... The state is named Hawaii and the island is Hawai'i. Are the games all on the big island? The state's government website refers to the state as Hawai`i, as does the University of Hawai`i website. Obviously the state government represents all the islands, the University has campuses on more than one island.
  10. I'm sure the Cardinals were win the World Series, just so that my sports existance can become even more tortured.
  11. Uh, haven't I explained very thoroughly why I'm not a big fan of him (as a quarterback)? You make it sound like I have some inexplicable grudge against him, like he kicked my dog or something.
  12. Good to see people putting the apostrophe in Hawai'i! This is one of my missions in life, to get everyone to do it. I put it in whenever I mention Hawai'ian weather our website (at work).
  13. Look at what Saito did for the Dodgers this year, or Otsuka has done in his three years on this side of the pond. There are some really good Japanese pitchers coming over. I applaud the Cubs if they're looking seriously into signing some major league-ready talent from Asia.
  14. Schmidt averaged 0.5 pitches per game more than Zito did this year.
  15. I read that they already tabbed Philly @ Indy for that game. Both very good games... I'd like to see both. I'll be at the Bears/Pats game, and then flying back to Chicago that night, so I don't think I'll catch the Philly/Indy game. Well, Indy will win, but it would be entertaining to watch those two offenses go at each other.
  16. I read that they already tabbed Philly @ Indy for that game. Both very good games... I'd like to see both.
  17. Brett Favre threw for about 4000 yards the past two years. Would you really want him quarterbacking your team these days? I sure wouldn't. I'm not saying you necessarily have to throw the ball short every play, but you have to know when to throw the ball away and know when a certain throw is a low-percentage play. Favre is a guy who will try to squeeze a pass in between 3 defenders because he has confidence in his ability to do so. Sometimes it works. Sometimes he gets burned. Personally, I'll take the guy who just doesn't make those types of throws. If the Bears can score quickly on like half their possessions, yeah obviously the game is going to get ugly. But, if that isn't working against a good defense, they need something else. And, with that great defense, I'd feel better about going 3-and-out, punting, and forcing the other team to go most of the field, than to piss the ball away with stupid throws and give the other team the ball with a short field.
  18. Yay, I actually thought we'd win this week, but we'll be lucky to win two more games now this season. What a joke. Our 3rd receiver is going to be some practice squad player that no one has ever heard of. And Thompson completely missed the boat on trading for Jerry Porter. What an idiot. Quite a bit of a receivers' success depends on the quarterback. If Favre does well the rest of the year, the Packers could end up having a star receiver who started the year on the practice squad and took a rare opportunity to make it big. A good game by Leinart last night made a star out of Boldin. Uh didn't Boldin already make a star out of himself by catching 100 passes for about 1400 yards in his two healthy NFL seasons?
  19. The teams in bold will win. Arizona-Oakland game should be cancelled, though.
  20. I guess it's encouraging that Prior has seen Yocum and Andrews, two of the best when it comes to sports-related injuries. For a while it seemed like the Cubs would just go with "their" doctors. Getting opinions from great doctors is a nice idea... overdue though.
  21. I'm trying to be positive. Lou did a very good job with Seattle and also with the Reds. The D-Rays are... well, the D-Rays. Most importantly, Dusty Baker and Andy MacPhail are no longer with the organization, and those really are two of the major three players in the mess the Cubs have become.
  22. Yeah, I'm amused that the company that canned Lyons for his comments is the same company that has "Family Guy" and "American Dad" on Saturday nights, and regularly has on folks like Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter on its news station. Kinda counteracting each other there, eh? I guess Fox can make the excuse that "American Dad" and "Family Guy" are comedies, so everyone knows they're joking... but Ann Coulter especially has said things that are so flagrantly racist, and were said in all seriousness. Oh well, at least they canned the crappy baseball announcer. Now if only we could get Joe Buck and Tim McCarver to have a segment in which they repeatedly slur Martin Luther King, we'll really be getting somewhere.
