  1. helllloooooooo, meaningless statements! Dusty would be proud. Old school? Did Green want to run Edge 50 times? Maybe they're going to institute the option, or the wishbone. In other news, the Ravens fired Jim Fassel as offensive coordinator, and Wannabe Genius Brian Billick will now call the plays. The Ravens actually made some small steps forward under Fassel last season. Billick doesn't seem to understand that the offense has sucked there for several years, and that the problem is a lack of talent at the skill positions (always lousy QBs, Jamal Lewis looks washed up now, WRs have always been poor).
  2. Teahen from KC. They need pitching that doesn't cost anything, and Teahen is expendable with Gordon's arrival. They also could hang onto Teahen - they really don't need to be giving up good young players to get prospects. The Royals are on record as saying they thought Gordon has the athleticism to play either of the corner outfield spots.
  3. Worked a hell of a lot better than the disgrace that was the Cubs' offense in 2006.
  4. Well, I have a good winning percentage anyway. Spending the last two weekends in Italy wasn't really conducive to making picks.
  5. I don't need to see Benson run blocking at all. Oops, pass blocking. put him at fullback

  7. Hopefully you guys are enjoying Zeus... he was one of my favorite players in a Flyers uniform. He's not a great offensive player and his numbers thus far are a bit of a fluke, but he will work hard, pick up a good number of assists, and be one of your best penalty killers and checkers. I wish him lots of luck with the Hawks.
  8. I think what I like most is that he pooh-poohed all the stupid excuses that Dusty used - none of this crap about injuries, day games, curses, etc. Find a way to win. Every manager exudes confidence in their introductory press conference, but at least it seems like he isn't going to put up with the bull crap that went on during Dusty's reign of error.
  9. This is a Dustyesque rationalization of a negative statistic. No it isn't. They ran well last year. Have the same people + a healthy Benson. Have focused most of their offense on the passing game. Dusty has nothing to do with it. So they're really not trying that hard to gain yardage when they hand the ball off?

  11. A turd in a paper bag is better than Dusty Baker.
  12. Let's hire Jim Leyland last year instead.
  13. The potential for bad winter weather certainly would be even more of a help to their already-great defense. But I don't think the Bears play an offensive style that's all that favorable for playing in wind, cold or snow. They don't run the ball all that well, and they have been using the deep pass extensively so far this season. They are very capable of running the ball well, as they did last year with the same squad. I think they've gotten away from focusing on that aspect, partially in an effort to get Grossman developing, and partially out of ego once they realized they could throw. I bet they run a lot the rest of the year. The Bears have the third worse YPC in the NFL. They aren't running as much, true, but when they do run the ball, they aren't effective at all.

They don't run the ball all that well, and they have been using the deep pass extensively so far this season. I just don't want the Bears to have to play in Seattle. Look what happened to Eli, in what was it week 2?. Imagine what the fans could do to Rex in the NFC championship game. Grossman isn't a Manning; he's less likely to choke in a big game.
  15. The only saving grace for Favre is that the Bears may already have home field locked up, so they wouldn't play a lot of the guys who could kill or maim him.

  17. That's about as much of an indictment of Denny Green as anything I've seen. Yeah, their offensive line sucks, but when your offensive is so predictable that the defense knows you're going to run the ball midway through the game, you're not calling the plays correctly.
  18. Gee, really? Hadn't heard. Hey, at least I justified it with what I think is logical reasoning. Feel free to disagree. Rich Hill pitched pretty bad for a while before showing what he could do. Rex has had some brilliant play and some terrible play. If Grossman played every time like he did tonight, well then you obviously have a case, but before tonight I think he only had 3 INT's. It was a bad game. You're not hearing my point. It has nothing to do with whether Grossman is a good or a bad quarterback. It's the style that he plays - he's a Steve Spurrier disciple, and Spurrier is not exactly known for playing a ball-control, mistake-free style of football. Grossman even threw 17 picks his junior year at Florida. Rex may very well be a good NFL quarterback - Brett Favre was obviously a great one. I just don't think that that style is the best one to have. Good teams have too much talent and too many schemes to be run over by a gunslinger.
  19. Gee, really? Hadn't heard. Hey, at least I justified it with what I think is logical reasoning. Feel free to disagree. Brady makes plenty of big plays and puts up plenty of offensive weapons. He takes chances, and executes. He doesn't take many chances. The Patriots are a ball-control offense predicated mostly on the short pass. He will go deep sometimes, but doesn't often try to squeeze the ball into small openings the way that Favre has always done. Brady's career high in interceptions is 14 - Favre has thrown more picks than that in all but four years of his career.
  20. I really don't think so, look at the two games that the Bears didn't dominated. Metrodome (where they suck) and a loud AZ stadium. I do not want to have to play in seattle in the playoffs. Yep, the Bears domination has been at home, and at Lambeau (where they've been winning quite a bit lately). HFA looks big right now. Personally, I've seen the Eagles beat the Bears in 2002 on the road, and then lose at home in 2003 and 2004 in the NFC Championship game. Two of the three years the Patriots won the Super Bowl, they went on the road to Pittsburgh to win the AFC Championship game. The Ravens in 2000 won two games on the road en route to the Super Bowl championship, and the Steelers won three in a row on the road last year.

  22. Yeah, I'm amused that the company that canned Lyons for his comments is the same company that has "Family Guy" and "American Dad" on Saturday nights, and regularly has on folks like Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter on its news station.
  23. Actually, the Bears are pretty much guaranteed to be 8-0, since their next two games are against the pathetic Niners and Dolphins. Then they go to the Meadowlands, and I think they'll lose that game to the Giants. I think they also lose at New England and at either the Jets or Rams, but win the rest and close out 13-3. There aren't a lot of loseable games for the Bears - home games against SF, Mia, TB and GB are pretty much automatic wins. Just going .500 in their other 6 games means a 13-3 record.
  24. I will say that I am not a huge fan of Grossman, for reasons that he showed last night. With the salary cap and so much player movement, there is a lot of parity in the NFL, and turnovers so often decide the outcome of games. Look at the guys who have won the Super Bowl the past six years - Brady three times, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer and Ben Roethlisberger. Not guys who put up real big offensive numbers or take big chances, but guys who manage a game well and make the safe plays. I just don't think that Grossman is that type of quarterback. He's more in the Brett Favre mold, which I don't think is the most effective strategy this day in age.
