  1. if the bears need bulletin board material to win a home game against a 1-6 team with joey harrington as its quarterback, then they've got more to worry about that who's saying what about them oh jeez. can fans of other teams who want to rain on bears fans parade please start their own thread and refrain from posting in the threads that bears fans pay attention to? especially if their team is either rebuilding or coming off 3 consecutive losses. pot meet kettle
  2. I don't know if I've ever seen a more lopsided record ATS than this. This is really hard to do, even if you're TRYING to get every game wrong or right.

  4. I don't think that is going to be great bulletin board material. He set himself up for bulletin board material if he had proceeded to another sentence, but right there he seems to just want to focus on his team and his play, and not what the other team is doing-he's not necessarily saying that his team will play better. Yeah, the questions he was getting were probably among the lines of "oh what's it like to go play the big bad Bears on the road," with reporters implying that the Dolphins have no chance. Saying that you're not conceding victory before even getting on the plane is not bulletin board material.
  5. But he is a solid gamble for a team looking for starting pitching depth. Given his usage out of both the bullpen and his desire (and upside) to start, Heilman is a far better swing-man than Rusch, and a better option to start than pulling up random guys from the minors. If it doesn't cost much in talent, then pursue him. That's fine... I just don't want people to get carried away by thinking that every pitcher coming off surgery will suddenly turn into Chris Carpenter. Heilman isn't Carpenter, Rothschild isn't Duncan, and the Cubs aren't the Cardinals. In fact, it's more likely that Heilman's arm will completely fall off than it is that he'll turn into Carpenter.
  6. Actually he's very talented, he just hasn't picthed well. I think there is a difference. how hasn't he pitched well? two straight 80+ inning seasons with whips of 1.14 and 1.16. bunch of k's too. i don't think he's a bad pitcher, i just don't want to give up a ton for him. i'd be all for getting him if he didn't cost too much. he could serve as a bullpen arm or a much, much better insurance starter than the cubs have had over the past few years. Let me clarify - he hasn't pitched to expectations. Wasn't he their No. 1 pick and a big time star at ND? Anecdotaly, I sat next to a guy on a plane once who told me that he was a college ballplayer who had faced Heilman at ND. He said he was the best pitcher he had ever seen and that he is sure to be a star in the Bigs. Just hasn't happened yet. If we can get him "on the cheap", I think its a no-brainer. This could be a Chris Carpenter type thing. no, he's not nearly as talented as Chris Carpenter, and neither is our pitching coach
  7. Hendry really, really needs to get over his boner for Notre Dame guys. It'd be acceptible if it was for, say, Texas or Miami or FSU. But Notre Dame is not exactly a hotbed of baseball talent.
  8. Boy, my team blew up this week! Mo Morris 150 Niners D 300 Cardinals D 200 Brad Johnson 200 Reggie Williams 225 up to 467th overall... looks like most people in the group have mailed it in though
  9. hey while we're at it, why don't we trade izturis for verlander too?
  10. If you've moved to a town with a good baseball team and still raise your children as Cub fans, social services should take those kids away. That's blatant child abuse.
  11. E-Patt today - 3/5, 3B, HR, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 error (6th) Back of the envelope calculations on his numbers: .351/.403/.526/.929, 15 runs in 14 games
  12. quoted for UNtruth
  13. hey, that was the only one of those that i wasn't violently opposed to
  14. jeez, Miami??? Horrible. 36-3 Bears.
  15. I saw an early line on the LSU-Tennessee game... LSU favored by two. That's a slap-in-the-face spread if I've ever seen one.
  16. by the way, that undefeated powerhouse Rutgers is up four points on UConn heading into the 4th quarter. The UConn RB already has run for over 200 yards.
  17. Ron Jackson was never any good either, scratch him off the list: http://thebaseballcube.com/players/J/Ron-Jackson-1.shtml Von Jousha? SUCKED http://thebaseballcube.com/players/J/Von-Joshua.shtml Chambliss... just okay http://thebaseballcube.com/players/C/Chris-Chambliss.shtml That Gary Matthews... Dude could get on base http://thebaseballcube.com/players/M/Gary-Matthews-1.shtml Terry Pendleton also had a career OBP of .316, and he's highly regarded as a hitting coach.
  18. darn, didn't account for that last touchdown. But I sure was right about the Niners being awful.
  19. Yeah, and yet Wake Forest trailed them in the 4th quarter, and needed to intercept a pass in the final seconds in their own red zone to hang on and beat the Heels. They only beat Duke by a point at home, for God's sakes. Wake is one of those teams that is ranked because they play in a major conference and have only 1-2 loss(es), even though their schedule has been a complete joke. They'll get exposed by BC this weekend.
  20. no, embarassed is losing 9-1 to the Sabres and then 8-2 to the Penguins a week later.
  21. In the PSU vs. Purdue game today, the Purdue Player of the Game was some guy with 5 tackles. The player of the game in the PSU vs Illinois game was PSU's punter. That's even more sad than the kicker being the player of the game. This is very true. Based on how they looked today, O$U might romp all over Michigan I don't see it happening. Michigan's defense is really, really good. So is O$U's. Michigan didn't impress today, but the weather was nasty (rain and wind), and Lloyd Carr did what he always does - got a lead and then sat on it. Minnesota has been blown out by Wisconsin and O$U, and needed a last-second FG block to beat a 1-AA team in the last 3 weeks. I think after the UM and PSU losses they mailed it in. What do you think about next week's game? It won't get a lot of attention, but the winner likely goes to a New Year's Day bowl. College Football News has Wisconsin playing Tennessee in the Crapitol One Bowl. A week or two ago, I thought PSU's chance of winning was very slim, but looking at Wisconsin a little more, I'm not all that impressed. Here's their schedule so far this year: at Bowling Green W 35-14 Sat, Sep 9 Western Illinois W 34-10 Sat, Sep 16 San Diego State W 14-0 Sat, Sep 23 at (6) Michigan L 13-27 Sat, Sep 30 at Indiana W 52-17 Sat, Oct 7 Northwestern W 41-9 Sat, Oct 14 Minnesota W 48-12 Sat, Oct 21 at Purdue W 24-3 Sat, Oct 28 Illinois W 30-24 Their best win is probably the one on the road at Purdue, which isn't anything all that great. They played 3 cream puffs out of conference, and play a fourth later this year (Buffalo). If they'd played the same teams as Penn State, they'd almost certainly be 6-3. Their margins of victory have been larger, but like I said above, I think Minnesota really mailed it in. Their O-line is probably better than PSU's, but I think PSU has shown the past few weeks that the game against ND was an aberration. Wisconsin is based around the run, and PSU stops the run well. PSU and Wisconsin are really similar teams, except Wisconsin has a little better O-line and Penn State has a better defense. I think if Morelli doesn't make big mistakes, Penn State can win the game and finish out the year 9-3, which I would've been happy with before the season began. A lot of people will overlook this because it doesn't have national title implications, but for Big Ten bowls it's very important.

  23. Lou Holtz still talking about Notre Dame.... isn't it past your bedtime Lou? Can't believe I'm going to have to root for a Big East team in the national championship game.
