  1. Bruce, feel free to also dispel the 3 year, $27M contract offer to Marquis, so that people here don't have to consider throwing themselves from the nearest high building.
  2. Yeah, and if Bush won the Presidency in 2000, Alec Baldwin was moving to Canada. Don't make promises you won't keep! If I'm banned, how can I not keep my promise? :D But I'm a man of my word. If Marquis is a Cub for that price, I'm out till January 10. Then I'll return - possibly as a Twins fan.
  3. what's ed lynch up to these days?
  4. I've got a feeling it's going to be 3/28, something close to 9 million per. This market is indeed quite insane. if it is I leave this board for a month, mostly in rage. That's pretty much my feeling as well. If that happens, I'll need to take a break for a while (to avoid being banned). yeah, if the Cubs sign Marquis for 3 or more years at more than $8M per year, mods please ban me for a month so that I can't get myself banned.

  6. yeah, back her trailer up over his legs
  7. Huff's numbers blow away JD Drew's the last 5 years? Did I miss something?
  8. Is it? Hopefully his knees don't hold up. fixed
  9. that can't possibly be true. If so I'm not rooting for the Cubs this year. I don't see why it can't possibly be true. The Cubs are throwing money around to undeserving players, and they've done it for a very long time. I hope it's not true, and I assume, for now, that it's not. But it certainly could be. The Cubs overpay people coming off good years, not guys coming off years in which they had an ERA over 6. Not to mention that there is no report with any legitimacy that has figures even close to this.
  10. good, makes me even happier that he won't be a cub then

  12. well he hasn't been playing at all, maybe he's porked up to 300 lbs. Give him a shot.
  13. Well, for one, not everybody is enamored with one good year. but for that one good year to actually decrease his value? that doesn't make sense. When did it decrease? I don't remember it being higher. He wasn't exactly a hot commodity on the free agent market last year, why should he become a hot commodity on the trade market a year later. you seen the free agent market this year?
  14. of course, having a terrible OOC schedule is probably the only chance Penn State has of having a winning record, and therefore, a bid into the NIT. When you lose to Stony Brook and barely beat Hartford and Morgan St, you should just give up on any NCAA tourney aspirations.
  15. He only hit 26 last year, and he had more protection than he'll likely have this year. I don't think it's out of the question that the record stays in Ruth's closet for another year. booooooooo :D
  16. so why do people crap their pants over Bynum/Neifi/Blanco/Pagan? Well, Ward brings at least a threat for productivity, those others are practically guaranteed outs with no side benefits. Exactly, so if we're going to freak out over those guys, we should applaud Hendry for getting somebody worthwhile for a cheaper price than at least two of those players. As we all know, the alternatives could clearly be worse. And chances are, with pinch hitting, spot starts and injury replacements, Ward will probably get at least 150 PAs, which makes his contribution non-negligible.

  18. shut up michigan
  19. One of the comments in there is so stupid, yet it's the way a lot of people feel: no, the team that he's always been surrounded by is garbage. Name one really good complementary player that he's had with him? Glenn Robinson, Dikembe Mutombo, Chris Webber - a bunch of past-their-prime ex-stars. People rip on him for not working out more, but he knows that his quickness is what keeps him in the league.... otherwise, he's just a sub-six foot guard with a decent outside shot. He busts his ass during games, both at the offensive and defensive end, and he's had to carry that team since he came into the league. He deserves better.
  20. I saw the highlights on ESPN just a few minutes ago. WOW, that would've been an amazing game to see in person. combined 27-52 for three... that's pretty sick
  21. Good, I don't like him. He's an a-hole, he's injury prone, and I don't want a cheater breaking the most renowned record in sports as a member of the team I root for.
  22. haha, yeah too bad the Reds are nowhere near that train
