  1. must have been a clerical error. The release does not that he had good clutchiness last year too.
  2. I actually sort of liked him coming out of the minors, because his IsoP his last three seasons in the minors was .120, .101 and .067. That being said, his OBP in the majors has been mediocre, and he's had two full seasons to prove himself. I'd rather have him than Pierre because I think he's got some room to improve with the right hitting coach, but I'd prefer that the Cubs don't go dumpster diving for a CF at this point. Just take your lumps with Jock's defense and take what you can from his bat.
  3. I wish the Cubs were also looking to hire a GM...
  4. sad news for the Bengals that David Pollack's career is probably over. He was gonna be a good player.
  5. if wood pitches 4-5 times a week he'll easily break the all-time record for appearances in a season.
  6. well, this is entertaining what jumps out at me.... the linebackers on this guy's all-Big Ten team: LB -- David Harris, Michigan LB -- J Leman, Illinois LB -- James Laurinaitis, Ohio State Now, here's a tidbit from the Big Ten's website: And here are the finalists for the Butkus Award, which goes to the best linebacker: James Laurinaitis, Ohio State, Sophomore Paul Posluszny, Penn State, Senior Patrick Willis, University of Mississippi, Senior The award went to Patrick Willis. Now CALL ME CRAZY, but I'd think that the defensive player of the year, one of the three finalists for LB of the year, and a first team All-American, probably was among the three best linebackers in his own conference. What could explain this oversight??? Oh.
  7. I'm still pretty pissed off that they stayed with Hawkins even though he just sucked as a closer. That team had one hell of a rotation and Prior was really coming on at the end of the year. Thanks Latroy/Dusty. In 2004 I was at two of the memorable Hawkins's efforts. Eric' Milton's near no-hitter, then near loss after Patterson roped a double. LaTroy loses it in the bottom of the 9th. The final week in Shea when Victor Diaz went deep. Both times Prior started the game and pitched very well. Aww man you were there too? I'm pretty sure others on this board were there... CT Cubs fan being one, I believe. I drove up from South Jersey with my dad for the game. It was so disheartening... the Mets sucked and their fans totally didn't care if they won or lost the game. I'd never been to a game at Shea and I really don't want to go to another one. The other thing that sucked was wanting to have some lunch and beer with my dad before the game, and finding out that Shea is surrounded by about 2341 auto body shops and not a single bar or restaurant. WTF is with that?
  8. wise thinking by Lovie Smith. A guy like that can be very versatile because he's made a name for himself, and people will look out for him. You can put him in to run a couple of deep routes, run a couple of sweeps or end-arounds, or just a WR screen. At the very least, he'll serve as a good decoy if he's only in the game for 5 or 10 offensive plays a game.
  9. oh yeah, and vince carter + contract year = money
  10. I don't know anything about Mayo. But I've discussed baseball with Callis and Jim really, really knows his stuff. I had the same reaction. I haven't spoken personally with Callis, but from reading his chats, his articles on BA and his analysis of trades, I can tell that he knows a whole lot about baseball and especially about prospects.

  12. Yes. Either go away, or atleast just stop this "retirement" nonsense. It's tiresome. and you too brett favre, give it a rest.
  13. Again, there's a whole article about it, and Kenny Williams acknowledged the non-traditional bullpen usage. Earlier you said "This never works in practice." Feel free to give an example other than the 2003 Red Sox. 2004 Chicago Cubs. yeah that one was too easy Cubs' pen was 15th of 30 in ERA among MLB teams in 2004. But as was stated, that's a situation where the bullpens were just plain bad. It's not like the 2003 Sox and 2004 Cubs were rotating good relievers in the closer role and watching them fail because none of them was a "closer". Their pens just plain sucked.
  14. he really wasn't much better than Marshall last year, and most people seem willing to give away sean for just about anything. The biggest difference in their numbers was the BB, especially if you look at both of their numbers as starters. Everything else was strikingly similar. Those extra BB though made a difference on ER. And I don't know why you think people are willing to give him away for anything. Most of the talk I heard was to net a starter such as Westbrook, or in deals to upgrade SS or CF. I'd hardly say people are willing to give him away. I guess I should say that most weren't clamoring for him to be in the rotation in 2007.
  15. :?: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/news/2003/08/11/maryland_probation_ap/ surprised you didn't know about that - there's a good chance it's the reason he ended up at ND. Most people thought he was headed for Maryland until the recruiting fiasco.

  17. well that's good, because if he gets picked by detroit or oakland he's going to be getting drilled a lot
  18. His walk rate went down for four years in a row until this past year. It's not like he's been on a steady downward slide - his peripherals in 2005 were the best of his career.
  19. I don't know who the hell Andres Biedrins is, but he's pretty darn good.
  20. I was convinced that Giles was on the juice, even back before we had to start assuming that everybody is. Recent trends haven't done anything to convince me otherwise.

  22. can't believe abiamiri is a senior already. It seems like just yesterday that he took money from a Maryland coach.
