  1. i'm not worried... after about a week i'm sure i'll have plenty of company on the moon
  2. I disagree with this part. The average line for an NL first baseman is .276/.358/.457/.815, and the median OPS is about .813. I think Lee can beat that even if he has lost power, and when you factor in the fact that he defends and runs better than most 1B, he'll at least be average, and maybe a bit above.
  3. qft Hey now, I did the box for the Mesa game using the snazzy MiLB link. I'm not taking the time to type all the stuff that you can just click on the link and read. But yes, you want to see suck? Wait a week. :-P i'll organize a coup and overthrow your minor league box score duties
  4. i like Soto, but if he's the third-best catcher in the minors, then there really aren't many good catching prospects.
  5. I would. me too. I'd rather have Fielder because he can play every day and doesn't have the injury issues, but when Bonds has played, he's been better than Fielder.
  6. braves swept at home by the piss-poor reds... point and laugh
  7. braves have 1st and 2nd with 2 outs, but are out of position players and are forced to use a pitcher here
  8. 5-4 now, runner on first. Cincy making a run at their third blown save of the day.
  9. if soriano12 is running the world, i'm moving to the moon
  10. c'mon gallagher... i want him to get his first save!
  11. That would not be good with Arizona coming in to play. How do the Cubs do against the D'Backs in Chicago. Because they can't win for the life of them in Arizona. I'm venturing a guess of about .500 in Chicago against the D'backs over the last few years. arizona isn't good either... they've been crapping the bed lately, and their pythagorean W-L is 7 games below .500. We should take at least two of those games.
  12. if the cubs could walk 10 times a game, i'm confident in saying that they would still be able to score a lot of runs, even without the home run ball
  13. we better win tomorrow... i don't want a split against the giants, these guys SUCK
  14. angel pagan is a bad hitter.... actually they both are, but jones is probably better
  15. this is the way i wish the cubs offense could be all the time... well except for not hitting home runs
  16. I'm not sure how Theriot/Fontenot qualify as "more than adequate. Even if you take out Izturis, Cub shortstops have been lousy offensively.
  17. i don't know why this bothers everyone. Unless he makes an error while doing it, what's the big deal? It's just stupid, that's all. I doubt it will ever happen, but if/when it does result in an error, watch out for those who don't care about it now. There will be hell to pay for Soriano, especially if it's in a crucial moment. okay, well mark me down as someone who doesn't think it will ever cause him to drop a fly ball. If he does, feel free to call me on it.
  18. Isn't this the third city he's played for them in?? not only that, he's a veteran of the indian-american war
  19. What does our offensive production have anything to do with QS's? The only reason Z came out after 5 IP was because of the 9-0 score. A pitcher has to go 6 innings with 3 or fewer runs to get a quality start. I guess next time Lou should tell his players to stop scoring so that Z can chase a meaningless statistic. cubs offense is so selfish
  20. my home run derby squad was counting on a big 2nd half from him. He's doing this in LA, which isn't exactly a hitter's haven.
  21. i don't know why this bothers everyone. Unless he makes an error while doing it, what's the big deal?
  22. in related news, ronny is hitting .250 with 1 walk and 8 K's in his last 10 games.
  23. he didn't even play yesterday... what's he so tired from? maybe he got hammered last night. I believe he did draw a walk on Ohman. whatever, it's easy to draw a walk off ohman
  24. Actually, I take le Batard's baseball knowledge more than Wilbon's. I don't know many of the stats he knows but he's clearly not in the completely old school mentality. A couple Wilbon quotes from the other day: "I don't care about OPS! That sounds like -- what is that, OPS is a rap title?" "Long before anyone discovered on base plus slugging, people talked about runs scored, batting average, and hits in a season!" -courtesy of FJM yeah and long before chemotherapy, people cured cancer with herbs and leeches.
