Steve Phillips is right that we shouldn't give up Prior, but his rationale (White Sox just won with pitching) is out of whack. Phillips doesn't think Abreu for Prior is realistic for either side due to Prior's injuries.

When asked if Prior was any more of a risk than AJ Burnett, Phillips said "well, Burnett has had surgery to fix his injurys." Wow.

Harold Reynolds just got a bit of my respect for calling Phillips on that...

What did Harold say?

So, is Phillips suggesting Prior should have that surgery which causes a force field to protect your elbow from line-drives?

Gammons and Harold both think that you should never trade great young pitching, and there's no way the Cubs ship Prior out.

Phillips is a moron.

As much as I dislike Kruk, and I really think he is one of the biggest morons at ESPN, he did just scare the crap out of me be making me realize that if the season started today, we'd have Murton, Patterson, and who knows what in right field. The more that Hendry just sits on his hands, the more worried I get. Please Hendry, DO SOMETHING, preferably that will HELP the Cubs.

the wording was strange but basically he just went, "What the heck are you talking about? How is he worse than Burnett?"

Yes, and he and Marcus Giles will be wearing a shock collar that will prevent them from getting within 10 feet of each other.

Is that guy really the D-Rays manager? He doesn't look like a baseball guy. More like a poet or something.

Gammons said the Reds are talking to the Cubs and some AL teams about Kearns. He thinks they'll move some guys to get young pitching, so the Cubs would be a good fit.

I don't agree with his "two or three" young pitchers for Kearns. Yes, low prospects maybe.

Why not? Mitre + Nolasco is what was rumored yesterday and I definitely woulnd't have a problem with that.

He looks a little like Lou Piniella if he stuck a fork into an electrical outlet.

Stark said the Cubs are very active. Looking for a leadoff hitter right now. At least it's good to know Hendry is working on things.
Posted

Stark says the Cubs quickly ended Prior/Z for Abreu talks. Pierre, Wilkerson, Lugo, Gathright (big news right?) are on the Cubs' list for leadoff men.

Kurkjian says Cleveland is in the lead for Hoffman. (I guess Wickman's retiring)

Stark said we're really busy with a bunch of stuff going on. Actively looking for a leadoff man, then mentioned the same usual leadoff candidates we've heard.

He said the Prior/Zambrano for Abreu talk lasted about two minutes, and we told them no way.

Well, Jayson Stark said the Cubs are very active right now. Good that Hendry is at least active. Now grow a pair and DO SOMETHING GOOD Hendry.

A big empahsis on the Cubs activity at the Winter Meetings. The Cubs have been very busy. Of course, the Abreu for Prior or Zambrano trade is not going to happen and that the Cubs have Pierre, Wilkerson, Gathright, and others on their radar.

I don't care what you all say about Stark, I like him. It sure is a nice break from Gammons, Levine, and Phil Rodgers to occasionally get some info that actually has some legs.

Edit: I also hate everyone on the score except when they say things like my sig on B&B.

Stark says the Yanks only want Damon if it goes down to 3-4 years, in which case Boston would jump back in to the fray.

Also says the Yanks won't get Pierre unless they're willing to part with Wang or Cano, although New York has higher priorities than Pierre.

I have a feeling that if Damon goes down to 3 or 4, a lot of teams will start jumping.

He should. A seven year contract is too much to give anyone much less a guy who's 31/32 or older.

I'll sign him to be my pool boy if he goes down to 3 years.
