I hope Cedeno is better than DuBois, Choi, Hill, Kelton, whoever that rule 5 relief pitcher that everyone loved-Jason (MIT)?, turned out to be.

But when you have a huge hole to fill, I'll take a proven player rather than rolling the dice.

Ronny is murding the pitching in Venzeula this Winter. I'd say he is going to be able to fill SS if need be.

For the record, he's hitting .357/.396/.429 in 98 at-bats in Venezuela.

All batting average, sadly. Come on Ronny, more patience, more power.

Oh, as long as he can hit .320 in the majors we'll be fine

He started slowly but he has caught fire. I still feel he will start at 2B (unless a trade occurs) if Furcal signs. It doesn't matter that he hasn't planned the position this winter he's young and can adapt to change.

Sadly, hitting .320 in the majors is difficult.

I really don't want him at 2B. I'd actually rather have Walker or even Soriano. He could be a very usefull SS but I think he loses a lot of value if you move him to 2B.

.320 is a lot to ask.

I hate tree trimming, hanging baubles and such and it is Saturday.

Hence the Booze?

No, that's just the alcoholism.

And that's just the wife, I should add.

A great Onion slogan: I'm like a chocoholic, but for booze!

Well, IF the Cubs have Furcal, and you want Ronnie to see the light of day, it will be at 2B. I doubt Walker will be on the open day roster and Soriano is just not necessary (and his defense is MIA)..

I want Ronnie to start too but the least complicated current senario is at 2B. We'll see how things workout tomorrow

If it's Saturday it's booze and a bath whether I need it or not.

Now let's talk about who we would spend 13 million dollars @ 4 years for:

here is mine:

Johan Santana

Miggy Caberera

Fat Albert

Bonds (although I hate his steroids inflated numbers)

Maybe Willis but he has to have another season

David Wright if he contiunues to progress

Big Z

Don't you think that could hurt the offense? That's just another position that would most likely give us a below .800 OPS. I would feel more comfortable with some more offense coming from 2B. I think Ronny should be traded if we sign Furcal.

Why is Cedeno at SS and Walker at 2B more complicated? After all, those are their natural positions, and we already have both under lock and key for 2006.

They are too inexpensive. They must suck.

Let's give Walker a new $50m/5yr deal!

It's more complicated because Hendry appears to be looking to trade Walker (and possibly Cedeno if the right deal came along). He wants guys with range who can "catch the ball." That doesn't describe Walker. I like Todd but if I had my druthers we would have someone else playing 2B.

No, but "on the whole an above average second baseman" does describe Walker.

I really think Hendry has made up his mind to trade Walker. Nearly every rumor has his name in it, and he doesn't catch the ball as well as Hendry would like.

Just my opinion, but I think Walker's tenure with the Cubs ends before the winter meetings, Furcal or no Furcal.

What will kill me is if Furcal signs with another team people will undoubtably say Hendry can't be blamed b/c he signed with another team. Although that is true he seemed to focus on this (depending on what else he does this off-season).

I do think the Winter meetings will be a popin this year though.

In a similar format as Diffusion used. I'm just trying to gauge whether their role in the offense impacted their ratio of getting on-base to leadoff an inning.

Giles - 21.0% (8.0%)

Lee - 18.7% (7.9%)

Pujols - 17.4% (8.0%)

Helton - 17.1% (6.9%)
