If we land Furcal, trade for Bradley by using Patterson, send prospects to Florida for Castillo, and then Cedeno for Wilkerson... =P~

Furcal SS

Castillo 2b

Lee 1b

Ramirez 3b

Bradley CF

Wilkerson RF

Murton LF

Barrett C

I'm becoming less and less enthusiastic about any trades with FL. They're no longer desperate to dump payroll, they won't give up Castillo or Pierre cheaply. We'll likely get fleeced in prospects in order to get either. I don't think I want to see any deals with FL now.

I really dont see how we can even consider getting rid of Walker and Cedeno if all that we add are Bradley, Wilkerson, and Furcal. We still have the same problem as last year, no power in the OF. We are leaning Murton to produce and Wilkerson to revert to his good numbers. If we give up Cedeno for wilikerson, and then work Patterson/Hairston/Rule 5 Arm for Bradley, That would give us a solid lineup.

In a a lineup of

Furcal

Bradley

Lee

ARam

Wilkerson

Barrett

Murton

2nd Basemen

I really dont see where the power is coming from either than Lee and ARam. To suggest moving Walker and Cedeno without an impact bat addition is in my opinion not a smart move. Bradley and Wilkerson are very nice players and probably an upgrade over last year, but neither are the impact bat we have been talking about. Walker was hands down one of the best hitters we had on the team last year and that lineup in my opinion leaves too many questions for my liking.

Now,

Furcal

Walker

Lee

ARam

Bradley

Wilkerson

Murton

Barrett

Looks much nicer. That would give us a chance to have 6-7 .300+ hitters.

I hope this turns out to be true. I think E. Patterson is the 2nd baseman of the future, not Cedeno. If this trade took place, it would allow us to have Walker and Wikerson's high OBP and OPS in the lineup, even Dusty might not screw this up.

assuming the cubs do trade for pierre to play cf (as has been rumored for several weeks now), who would you rather have to play rf-wilkerson or bradley? assuming they would both cost the same (in the neighborhood of cp, walker & welly?) i would much rather see wilkerson on the cubs. both are potential .900 ops guys btw so i would consider both of them impact bats.

I'd prefer Bradley to Wilkerson if only because I think Bradley would be cheaper to acquire and that he gets more of his OBP via the basehit. Both have some pop, though Wilkerson might have the potential for more power, Bradley brings more speed and better defense. Wilkerson lacks the off-field incidents and that's in his favor.

I think I'd give the nod to Bradley, but either would be nice players. If we sign Furcal to lead-off, I'd rather have Bradley/Wilkerson than any combination of Pierre and the other.

Actually there has been more talk of getting Bradley in CF than Pierre recently. And mlbtraderumors reported the wilkerson for cedeno talks so take it for what its worth. But it seem sthat Bradley is more likely than pierre at this point.

I'd rather not trade for Pierre and then go get both Bradley and Wilkerson. If Furcal signs- as seems likely- the lineup is almost fool-proof as Bradley, Wilkerson, Walker, Murton and even Barrett could bat 2nd.

I would like ot have both but if I had to choose one it would be Bradley.

If Hendry is smart, and I'll assume he is for the time being, he'll realize that he doesn't need another "speedy" lead-off hitter if he signs Furcal. Part of the justification for ponying up for Furcal is he's a "rare" lead-off type player. Why spend the premium in prospects or dollars to acquire another one in Pierre if you're signing Furcal to a mega-deal? It doesn't make sense. That doesn't mean you rule out Pierre if you sign Furcal, it just means that getting a "proto-typical" lead-off hitter for CF is no longer a necessity.

Hendry, if he realizes that, may feel getting Bradley in a one player swap is a better option than spending three high ceiling prospects for Pierre. Hendry may erroneously believe Pierre is a better player than Bradley, but still would rather not spend the prospects to get him. Also, Bradley would be a serviceable option in right or center, allowing Hendry to look at multiple players to round out the outfield.

You're on point. If we indeed sign Furcal having Pierre is a waste. I would rather have the extra power in the OF. Bradley and Wilkerson fit the bill.

There's no way Hendry trades "three high ceiling prospects" for Pierre.

who were the rumored three? Pinto...

they certainly weren't crappy pitchers. three decent arms for a rental who is going to make decent money next season?

from todays tribune: "Hendry's next task is to try and reel in free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal, and then sign or acquire a power-hitting right fielder. Florida center fielder Juan Pierre also is a prime target, with his ability to add speed at the top of the order, and the Cubs have a surplus of young pitching talent to dangle."
