Just heard a guy (Joe Strauss of the Post-Dispatch) on sports radio in STL talking about Cardinals off season moves. It sounds like nobody in the know is real confident of the shot they have at Giles. There was also talk of moving Jason Marquis as part of a package for either Kearns or Huff to fill their outfield hole(s). Mentioned a 2 yr deal for Grudz might be close to happenning and that they were taking a wait and see attitude on Morris.

Interesting stuff. That Marquis deal makes some sense -isn't that Wainright (sp?) kid they got from Atl. ready?

By the way mul21, stop stealing my avatar!

Wainright is not ready and I'm not so sure he'll ever be. At this point his ceiling is a number 3 starter some day.

Sorry, I liked it and didn't have time to find my own.

I don't think Waiwright will be ready to start next year, but the Reyes kid they have is in their plans for the rotation. Wainwright has had some injury problems that slowed him down.

I really hope that all happens. At this point, the only people that can beat the Cardinals are their own organization, and trading for Kearns, signing Grudzie to an extension and shipping out Marquis would be a nice start to doing exactly that.

Given the performance of Wainwright and the injury history of both Wainwright and Reyes, relying on one or both to chip in heavily to the Cardinals might not be the best of ideas next season.

Then again, given the Cubs luck, both will likely end up pitching 150 innings apiece, be fully healthy, and post ERAs in the low threes next season.

I doubt Wainwright in the rotation next year but Reyes should be. Would it be a risk? Sure, but he deserves a shot and every team goes in to a season with risks.
