The Padres are discussing bringing in the fences at Petco Park.

The Padres are actively looking into a plan to move the fence in right-center field at PETCO Park from the 411 mark to something in the 395-foot range, and are hoping to get it done in time for the 2006 season.

After a long day of trade discussions at the general manager meetings that yielded nothing concrete, Padres general manager Kevin Towers said he thinks it's "better than 50-50" that something can be done in the area that has become a death valley to left-handed hitters in time for the first pitch in April.

I wonder if this is a ploy to make Giles want to stay in San Diego. :-k

Lord forbid we have ONE park in the majors in which it's more difficult to hit homers. We have enough Minute Maids, Coors, et al that it wouldn't hurt to have one Petco.

More than that, have you noticed it takes an almost Cy Young rotation for any of the teams in the bandboxes to be successful?

Houston needed Oswalt, Clemens, an over-achieving Petitte, and a surprise Backe to get there. Philly, Baltimore, and Colorado are a long ways from the pitching needed to overcome the small park.

Personally, I think the ballpark in Detroit is killer. More like that please.
