According to this, Bradley will be non-tendered if he isn't traded.

The Dodgers are looking to deal Milton Bradley, a talented 27-year-old switch-hitting center fielder, whose temper has led to major problems in Cleveland and L.A. If they can't trade Bradley, they aren't expected to tender him a contract by Dec. 20. That would make him a free agent, but if the Yankees are interested, it would be easier to acquire Bradley via trade, since the Dodgers aren't looking for much.

This goes on to suggest the Dodgers wouldn't want much in return for Bradley, especially if they might non-tender him. The Cubs should be all over him.

He'd break up the good chemistry that they have...I'd pass.

The Dodgers are getting real stupid real fast.

wow, if Depo had to work with these clowns that are calling the shots now, no wonder he "had communication issues." what a bunch of morons.

Hendry needs to be all over this if it's true. Offer them a guy who's out of options for him, if they don't expect much.

Can TO & Ron Artest play OF? Sign them too, Jim!

Baker's one remaining "strength" is supposedly the ability to keep a clubhouse together and keep guys like Bradley under control. If the player cost is Mitre or something like that, it's worth taking the chance.

Besides, has Bradley ever had a problem with teammates? Jose Guillen wasn't even allowed on the postseason roster last year because of some falling out, then he went to Washington and people raved about how good a guy he was.

I'm starting to think that Bakers "strength" is due to over playing veterans thus keeping the harmony.

That very well might be the case.

I like Bradley, and think Dusty can handle him. But we have to think like the Cubs: given a choice, you figure the Cubs would rather sign Kenny Lofton as a free agent than trade players/prospects for Milton Bradley.

I hope not. And if Bradley is non-tendered, giving up players for Bradley is a non-issue.

Playing it safe will only mean we'll have to count on career years to win a title. Hendry needs to think bigger than Kenny Lofton.

I would like to see Hendry do this but I still think that the chemistry thing is still big with him. We are going to see what Mr. Hendry is made of this off season.

Understood, but despite what the link says, I doubt the Dodgers would non-tender him. There are enough teams needing a CF with a decent bat that someone will surely offer the Dodgers a trade just to make sure the Yankees don't get first dibs if he's non-tendered, and becomes a free agent.

Then maybe Hendry should use the Rule 5 guys for something useful before we lose them.

Why? Any CF is just a stop-gap rental for Pie. No reason to think big at the only position out of which the farm is expected to produce an all-star.

If he's nontendered, he's a free agent and thus completely at liberty to sign with anyone.

Why not throw the Dodgers some value so you're ensured that he's your property*?

*that phrase will go over very well with Mr. Bradley, I'm sure!

Because there's no reason to accept a mediocre to bad stopgap when a good stopgap is available.

Sure that's one way you could go about it, and I'm not saying that's bad at all. Hoops was talking about shying away from Bradley because of player cost, and I pointed out that it might not be necessary if he's non-tendered.
