Cubs, Neifi Perez agree on 2-year contract

I've already stated that I don't like Neifi being re-signed however, doing so has given the Cubs many options not only now but later in the season. We all know how easily middle infielders go down and every year there are teams looking for a ss/2b by mid season and certainly by the trade deadline. I can see Neifi being used as a viable trade chip later on.

I don't think a team that needs a SS mid-season is going to balk at Neifi's contract.

This organization has developed a love affair with Neifi and won't use him as trade bait except in the most extreme emergency. Also, his salary and the extra year on his contract diminish his attractiveness as a late-season rental in 2006.
