Saw this on our Bloomberg service at work. How does this bode for Lee's chances in the MVP? Anyone know what the correlation between this and the MVP has been in the past?

I thought Jones and Ortiz already got the MVP Awards? Is the Hank Aaron award different?

The Hank Aaron Award is given to the top overall offensive performer in each league, as voted online by MLB fans.

The Player's Choice Awards are, as the name suggests, voted on by all major league players.

The Sporting News gives out their own awards as decided by their writers.

The big awards -- MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year -- are voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association, and are set to be announced November 7-14.

Lee's chance of winning MVP are 0 in 0. It was his to lose and he lost it. Maybe batting Macias/Perez ahead of him drained his will to live.

I hope this is sarcasm.

0/0=undefinied. you mean 0/1 or 0/<0.

While 0/0 is an interesting mathematical problem, it has nothing to do with having a small chance of winning

Mathematical impossibilites aside, I agree that Derrek Lee has little chance of winning the MVP. He lost it when Dusty had Patterson and Perez batting 1-2 for a month long stretch. Through no fault of his own, D-Lee's RBI totals were abysmal in the second half of the season. Like it or not, MVP voters pay attention to that sort of stuff.

That, combined with the Cubs mediocore finish, pretty much put the kibosh on Lee's MVP chances I predict Lee finishes third behind Pujols and Jones in the voting. I can accept Pujols finishing ahead of Lee, but putting Jones ahead of Lee is a cruel joke. In no way does Jones' season deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Lee or Pujols. He hit a lot of home runs and that was it, plus his defense was overrated too. That's not to say he wasn't a fine player, but he doesn't belong in the MVP discussion.

Well, considering how similar a year pujols had, the only chance Lee had was to get many more HR or RBI or for the cubs to make the playoffs despite the crappy hitting aroundd him. You just can't expect Lee to get significant votes when the best player/best player on a winning team votes are split, then the best player/player with the most HR+batting average votes are split.
